I wrote them an email as well. They responded saying the crayon is now buffered bypass. I asked why and the response was pretty generic. “to limit footswitch noise when engaging the effect”. Quite frankly I thinks it’s a relatively hollow answer. They mentioned they need to update their product information on the site.

It may be true though considering the hotwax pedal (which is this circuit and the hot tubes circuit in one pedal) is buffered. They may have updated the crayon circuit to make manufacturing simpler. Between the two pedals.

The Crayon is great but nonetheless I think I’m done with EHX pedals because of this.

It seems a correct answer, I owned Soul Food which if we switched it to true bypass made a “plop” noise when engaged quite unbearable. It is sometimes very difficult not to have a buffer, especially in a pedal of this price.
It will be necessary to put this pedal in the loop of a switcher or at the beginning of the chain to have an input buffer on the pedalboard if no other buffer already present.

Anyway we have our answer the Crayon is not true bypass.
And if the circuit is based on Bbpreamp style we don’t know…

    ;-)

I have the same issue with true bypass on the crayon.

I contacted support and they assured me it was true bypass that something may have been wrong with my pedal. Since I was still within the return period I returned it one exchange for another one.

The new one has the same issue.

Did this ever get confirmed? Is the pedal true or buffered bypass?

I can provide a video of needed.

Shame because I really enjoy this pedal.

    Hi,

I wrote to the support but no answer, for me this pedal seems to not be true bypass, the pcb are subcontracted in china maybe there was an error between the design and the manufacturing at the factory … i don’t know …
