I also like the giant knobs on the old classic pedals. there big enough that if i want to tweak something live I can turn the knob with my foot.

Exactly I started to do some foot tweaking on my SMMH last week while in the middle of (trying to play) a solo….not a good idea. The XO knobs either don’t respond or jump forwards or backwards quite a way, relatively, which does change the sound a lot. Obviously this was not part of the design anyway, unlike the Maestro efforts. The knobs on the classic Deluxa enclosures do respond well to foot treatment.

Tap-tempo analog delay? Is that possible, and if so, why aren’t there more of them?

it’s possible (as I explained above) the reason there aren’t more is probably because most manufacturers wouldn’t see the point, they’d just make it all digital…..and boutique makers usually only deal with analogue stuff, there has been stuff like this before though…and it’s usually expensive.

….the empress tremolo is an analogue tremolo that’s digitally controlled. (so you can have tap)

Does this mean there is an ADDA chip inserted somewhere in the unit? And does that explain the relatively high price tag quoted?

Thanks, Mr.Grim. It is incredible how the tone and distortion modulate with action on the volume pot of the guitar, sometimes giving what is almost a compressor effect and then opening out the harmonics all the way. It would be great to hear some of the sounds you conjure up.

True. I am mainly concerned with the mechanical noise.

So is it possible to get the best of both worlds?

I hope it made some sort of sense. Since I have two Metal Muffs and two working order Deluxe Big Muffs and the SMMH I suppose I should start experimenting.

Still waiting for the Holy Stain I ordered to arrive. Apparently it was permanently borrowed by some unidentified person working for the shipping company here. I have just read through all comments and suggestions on the thread and look forward to plugging the Stain in to see and hear for myself.

My Boss foot pedal switches do not pose the same problem, since they are lighter and mounted on a spring, but they do not have that EHX magic.

Yes, then I can see the point of a Bi-Muff (somewhat like the Mutron Stereo Bi-Phase). Two separate Muff units, each with their own set of dedicated controls, can be played in parallel through Mono/Mono Out, in parallel through Stereo Out (with the option of different settings in each unit), A > B through Dual Mono Out, or B > A through Dual Mono Out. And, of course, there would be endless possibilities of adding different effects and loops to either one or other, or both, of the Signal Out(s).

Yes, best results would be with a Big Muff put through through the Stereo Pulsar, or SMMH, then into two amps, left and right. The same signal twice would create mono-mono….mono.

That is not so good. Of course some software packages demand a lot of ressources from PCs and notebooks, so often the trouble can be with RAM, processor, sound card and graphic card rather than the software itself. Fuzzy tracking, bad sync, glitches and freeze are the reasons I decided to use Magix rather than one of the pro brands which my laptop cannot deal with. And a nice large monitor helps a lot too.

    I’d say try this:

You’ll be hard pressed to find anything that good for less. I’m using an earlier version and it works great for me.

Absolutely. I am using an updated version of Magix Music Studio and it does work really well. Great value for money.

Sorry, I am not a great fan of Digitech, all respect to them. I have been trying to persuade my fellow guitarist Werner to use some other brand however he has been happily using Digitech for years now and is a strong believer. And, yes, I do know these pedals and in the event of having to decide between them I would take the Digitech Whammy.

Fantastic! Lovely clean sounds with great dark and spooky atmospheres, not to mention quality playing.
