devnulljp, please tell more about the lovepedal switches. This thread is about silent foot switches, and “pops” are annoying, however it is above all about mechanical noise from EHX foot switches.
So, what about lovepedal?WatsonWoodMemberQuote:To WatsonWood: Sorry, I thought you were mocking me. I have not tried the Metal Muff but I’m sure it is rad.No problem. Most music stores are extremely indulgent when musicians try out EHX products which is a great opportunity to check out the wide range of pedals EHX has on offer, and without one’s feeling obliged to buy something on the spot.
WatsonWoodMemberDoom and gloom (principally for me) at Hoins music store in Bremen. No EHX products have arrived despite my putting money down for my last order, a Holy Stain. Oliver, the store manager, has been doing his best which I greatly appreciate however as yet no positive result. Great pity.
WatsonWoodMemberThanks, chev, some great sounds and great usage of the Cathedral not to mention the interesting time factor you work with on the drone(s).
WatsonWoodMemberQuote:har dee har harThe Metal Muff costs around USD 89 in the States and around EUR 80 over here in Europe. Sorry you didn’t like it when you tried it out. I can but give my honest opinion.

I guarantee we’ll EHX buy nonstop #103491WatsonWoodMemberQuote:i agree with you fender&ehxforever;. im just sayin, for all the ones i have that are 9V, i try to condense the power system just for those. And I agree with fender&ehxforever;too. Vacuum-packed and convenience are really not so exciting when it gets down to new sounds and crazy pedals such as EHX develops and offers musicians.
WatsonWoodMemberQuote:And the infinite reverb…a must for drone session…hehe! That sounds more than promising. EHX appear to have delivered the goods yet again.
I will now be selling a keyboard…infinite reverb…yes!WatsonWoodMemberI would go straight for the Metal Muff, in fact I have twice. I do have a few vintage Big Muffs, which I use as well, but in the event of a choice the Metal Muff is the one to go for I think. It is simply fantastic due to the amazing number of different sounds, moods and tones it has to offer. From screaming banshee to grinding death metal, sweet fuzz to acid distortion…the list could go on. The knobs give you full control of the sound you want…and on top of all this lovely mayhem the Metal Muff offers the Top Boost with adjustable volume and dedicated foot switch. So all in all it offers Volume, Top Boost, Treble, Mid, Bass and Dist control knobs, a bypass foot switch and the Boost foot switch. It is not too expensive either..Go for the Metal Muff.
November 6, 2009 at 8:32 am in reply to: order all the EHX pedals you’ve owned from favorite to least favorite #103447WatsonWoodMemberThis is difficult since I have loved nearly all the EHX pedals I have used, with a few exceptions. So I will start with the exceptions bunched together as bottom of my fav list (all pedals are vintage):
Mini-synthesizer
Switchblade
Silencer
10 Band Graphic Equalizer
Small Clone chorus
Space Drum
Polyflange
Military brass plugs (kept turning green in the rehearsal room)
Mini-mixer
5X Junction MixerI did use these pedals quite a lot (even the Mini-synth on occasions) but they did not give me the rush which the following pedals did (all pedals are vintage):
LPB-2 Power Booster
Hog’s Foot Bass Booster
Screaming Tree Treble Booster
Little Muff Pi
Little Big Muff Pi
Deluxe Memory Man echo/delay (4 knobs)
Memory Man Solid State echo/analog delay
Echoflange
Slapback Echo
Hot Tubes overdrive simulator
Mike Matthews Freedom guitar amp (AC/DC)
Bass Balls
LPB-1 power booster (to amp)
LPB-1 power booster (into instrument)
Mole bass booster
Screaming Bird treble booster (into instrument)
Muff Fuzz (into amp)
Soul Preacher compressor/sustainer
Big Muff Pi
Deluxe Octave Multiplexer (4 knobs)
Deluxe Big Muff distortion/compressor with blend switch
Clone Theory chorus/vibrato
Knockout Attack Equalizer
Black Finger Sustainer
Crying Tone wah pedal
Deluxe Big Muff distortion/compressor (Series/Parallel switch)
Muff Fuzz Crying Tone wah pedal
Pan pedal
Volume pedal
Doctor Q envelope follower
Zipper envelope follower
Slapback Echo
Small Stone
Y-Triggered filter
Electric Mistress flanger
Deluxe Electric Mistress flanger
Attack/Delay tape reverse simulator
Bad Stone phase shifter (2 knobs)
Octave Multiplexer
Deluxe Octave Multiplexer (4 knobs)
Deluxe Octave Multiplexer (5 knobs)
Hot Foot universal pedal
Hot Foot universal pedal pan pedal
Super Twin amp (AC)
Polyphase phase shifter/envelope follower
DRM-16 drum machine
Memory Man Deluxe echo/analog delay line (4 knobs)I am happy to still have a few of my favourites today despite years of wear and tear. Were I on a desert island with limited resources but a power source none the less (!) I would not hesitate to take the essentials with me (again all pedals and amp are vintage):
Freedom Amp
Deluxe Electric Mistress
Muff Fuzz Crying Tone
Deluxe Memory Man
Deluxe Octave Multiplexer
DRM-16
Small Stone
Volume Pedal
………….and a Les Paul……and for today’s EHX pedals the few I have are all #1 on my list of favs:
XO Metal Muff
SMMH
Holy Stain
#1 Echo…except the Nano Switchblade but I’m working on that.
WatsonWoodMemberIt’s good to know that there are still some around.
WatsonWoodMemberAny vids or sound bites on the Deluxe Memory Boy yet?
November 5, 2009 at 1:04 pm in reply to: Please stop the power adapter follies! I guarantee we’ll EHX buy nonstop #103389WatsonWoodMemberThe Warning notice is obviously for insurance reasons, just like a coffee vending machine informing us that hot coffee is …hot.
Using a 12 volt adapter on a 9 volt adapter input is also like plugging 230 volts into a 110 volt amp or television. Common sense should tell us that even if it works for a nano-second or so, sooner or later something might well go wrong (or right depending on one’s destructive instinct).
EHX pedals use different voltages for different circuits and different pedal types (vintage, XO, Nano etc) for musical and creative reasons.
All guitar amps are not 40W and all guitars are not Fenders nor all mikes Shure mikes. Thank heaven.
(For the record I do have and adore one of all the above articles).
If one can only deal with the regular 9 volt adapters the obvious solution is to stay with 9 volt type pedals. A decision I myself made for a reduced pedal board a couple of times when playing a series of gigs.
If EHX has always strongly supported one thing it is non-conformity in sound, experimentation, enclosure shape, effect range, and, logically, adapters.
I do occasionally start beefing when I have to get two 9 volt batteries to feed my vintage Electric Mistress but I stop as soon as I plug in and enjoy the sound.WatsonWoodMember60W RMS from a decent amp in a solid enclosure and with a powerful speaker (CTS, EHX, ATC) is extremely loud, believe me. The twin speaker Freedom amp I have here at home is so loud that even when I have the volume on 1.5 there is no way the neighbours or the windows are going to stand up to it. To have a vague idea, just listen to “Wagram Jam”, on the Vibrarock link below, where I used the 1 speaker Freedom amp, back in the ’70s. And turn up the volume so you can enjoy the live aspect of the sound. That Freedom amp toured with me for quite a while, and it could basically cut through anything, and take a number of pedals, including the Octave Multiplexer put through a Hog booster and a Black Finger occasionally pepped up by a Screaming Tree. And we did play loud.
WatsonWoodMemberQuote:well a few days ago i was wondering… what would be my ideal pedalboard…i’m not a hardcore EHXer… i’d still keep my Boss PH-2 and Visual sound jekyll/hyde… but in addition to my pedals as i have them now, i want a HOAX, HOG or a micro synthesizer and Cathedral reverb…
and then EHX comes with such an awesomeness as the Deluxe memory boy is… so now i want pedals in the aproximate cost of 1000 dollars… yuck… you guys are making me mad
let’s hope it’ll be reasonably priced… i’d love it if it’d be priced quite close to the SMMH – around 200 dollars
Well,DarkAxel, once one is hooked on EHX it is usually permanent.
WatsonWoodMemberYes. Once you start on the idea there are lots of possibilities.
