Here’s an idea: EH expression pedal with built in LFO. When you hit the switch (crybaby toe down style) it would switch from expression pedal to LFO mode. A rotary switch would switch from sample and hold, sine, triangle, square, and sawtooth. Then the expression pedal could be switched between controlling depth or speed.

This is a pretty good description of the heavily modded vintage Memory Man I have which has wave selection and sample and hold functions added, with a vintage EHX Hot Foot used as expression pedal as well as having its two top mounted foot switches modded to turn the LFOs on and off.
I had the Memory Man customised by an electronics doctor in Paris who handled all my equipment so only he knows exactly how he managed it. It still works brilliantly although somewhat hissy on the long delay setting, however that could be simply a matter of renewing a few parts since the pedal has been in use for over thirty years.

The impression I got from the #1 echo:
    …..it had no features

Julian, that is why I bought it. And it reminds me somewhat of a Maestro Echoplex.

Oh god, thanks. We’ve just been waiting for you to come and tell EHX to make it. Now it’ll be released immediately. Now EHX will be sure to cave because someone posted this thread.

What is the point of this remark? Quite out of place to say the least!

Of course we all want EHX to immediately release every non-fictional and fictional EHX pedal we can think of…..we are EHX fanatics (most of us, that is) and cannot imagine life without EHX.

Go for the MIDI Ext Control option.

Set up the MIDI channels to correspond to specific keys on a MIDI control keyboard, or simpler, to specific pads on a MIDI control digital drum set (for example the Korg DDD-1).

Match your selected digital drum pads, or your selected keyboard keys, to the desired MIDI command such as Play, Record etc as set out in the EHX User’s Manual. (Yes, I have just been reading it)

Check your MIDI channels on the 2880 as well, as set out in the User’s Manual.

Now you have the choice of hitting a selected digital drum pad, or selected keyboard key, to initiate whichever specific event you wish to have happen on the 2880 instead of using a noisy foot switch.

The pad, or key, functions exactly the same way as a foot switch in regard to sending a command to the 2880 and you can do this whenever you wish.

You could also set up a MIDI sequence to have events occur on a programmed basis but I do not think that is much cop for live performance.

Seizing the moment is far better unless you are tied to a strict time window.

Both methods eliminate noisy foot switches.

(BTW. A Korg DDD-1 digital drum can be picked up for about 80 EUR in Europe on the second hand market)

I was not aware that an official EHX European Repair Centre existed. Where is it?

Do they have a phone number?

I need a space drum. Simple as that. And why no love for the synth? =(

I’ve seen a few Space Drums on eBay recently, worth checking out maybe.

i’m hanging out for this.. the #1 echo was a bit of a disappointment.

Yes, well all I can say to this is that the EHX #1 Echo has not disappointed me in the least. On the contrary, the #1 Echo is a brilliant little machine and has performed really well for me both live and in the studio. It has joined my collection of Memory Man, Deluxe Memory Man, Stereo Memory Man with Hazarei and Korg SE 500 Stage Echo as a must. In fact I am waiting for EHX Germany to be graceful enough to fill my order here in Bremen so I can buy a second one!

Way back, in the ’50s, when I was still crawling about the garden on hot summer days, my elder sister would carry my Dads portable wind-up gramophone outside and play Glenn Miller and Duke Ellington records. As soon as I could stumble and walk I’d bop about to the music…as was captured on 8mm black & white “home cinema” reels by my Dad. The Duke’s recording of “Caravan” was apparently one of my favourite numbers.

Yeah, sorry, a few folks have asked — Riddle & Enigma are both all analog — I’ll have to go make that more clear on their pages.

And I’ll also have to add more info about the expression pedal — you can control the filter sweep with your foot via an expression pedal controller — and so, given the Riddle/Enigma’s ability to adjust Q, sweep range, filter type, you also wind up with a very versatile wah…

Which expression pedal would you recommend, Scott, or will an EHX expression pedal be coming out in the near future, considering the number of EHX XOs which can be hooked up to one now?
