    Fmalitz;

No offense taken. I’m impressed with yer writing style, and I’d be interested in ready some of yer articles.

I use my 44 in a variety of diff settings. Sometimes alone, or with a Catalinebread DLS and a DMB. For my bigger setups, I run my whole pedalboard thru it. And I hit it pretty hard with my v4 Big Muff. I can’t have the bright switch on with the muff tho’. Too much top.

I’m playing a Godin LGX with stock humbuckers. My main amp is a Mesa Boogie rocket 4 Forty. I use it and the Mag side by side for live looping (verse in one/chorus in the other). The Mag totally stands up to the Mesa in terms of clarity.

In just about every case the mag is around 9 o’clock fer practice and 10:30 to 11 fer gigs. It starts to break up around noon. From what you have described, the Mag may not be functioning properly. Either that, or my ears are failing me. Sorry to say I’m hopin yer 44 is defective;)

Bought mine unheard as well. Not a lot of selection in Nova Scotia. Got my at Steves Music when I was in Toronto without my guitar.

+1 Cryabetes. I love my 44Mag. And I’m really happy it doesn’t do that ‘Fender’ thing to my tone. I find it very versatile, with the bright toggle giving a nice added sparkle when needed. I think it even sounds better then my ’59 Musicman 15″. I’m running it into an old Line6 Spider 2 x 12, which I gutted and turned into just a speaker cab.

I have never needed to have my DMB adjusted. And I didn’t notice the temp thing until I read about it and experimented. Cause I always let all my gear warm up before I play, especially when on the road, it needs to climatize first.

No piece of gear is going to sound identical in two different environments. If you rehearse in a basement, but gig on a medium or larger stage, then chances are you are gonna be adjusting a lot of things, not just delay, to make it sound right. That being said, in regards to my memory boy, it’s prob the least adjusted pedal in my setup. The main thing I do is adjust the gain knob, depending on the size of venue, etc.

As far as stereo goes.. It’s a mono pedal, only one input/output. The effects loop is an insert into the signal path, not a seperate signal path. If you’re talking about using a trs 1/4 cable into the input, I’m not sure what will happen.. Either a mono sum or possibly just some portion of the original stereo signal. Did you have a specific application in mind? I can try it out and let you know..

‘Unpredictable’ is kinda relative. I’ve had my DMB for almost a year now. I use it almost every day. And I know exactly how it’s gonna react. I believe you are right tho’.. It’s a digitally controlled analogue signal path. I think the tap and divid are the only digital aspects of this pedal. But I reservethe right to be wrong;)

    Hope that helps,

Just powered up with the adaptor.. Basically the same amount of time as my tube amp;). And yeah, yer prob gonna notice slight differences from unit to unit. With the proper equipment, it is possible to make adjustments internally. And sometimes units may need to be sent to EHX for calibration. Adjusting anything internally on yer own could make it stop working altogether. But there are other threads about that;)

Mine will self oscillate around 3 o’clock.. +/- depending on where I have the blend and gain set.

I have the DMB, and I love it. I use an expression pedal to control the feedback (exp jack/or volume pedal in fx loop, depending on situation). But for longer delays I tend to lean more towards my SMMwH (Digital). Also, the max delay time of the DMB can vary depending on the temperature. The colder it is, the shorter the delay time. I usually allow a half hour for it to warm up.

I haven’t tried any of the boutique ones. But yer right, nothing current is quite like the OpAmp version. I ended up re tracking all my guitar parts on my upcoming album with the V4. The LBM I had used sounded close to what I was looking for.. But the V4 was exactly what I was looking for. If I get some time this weekend, I’ll post demo clips.

Interesting.. My first choice would prob be before the OD-3.. Honestly didn’t consider putting it after delay.. Must try this.

If you have noise in one output more then the other, or any noise from either output, I would return the unit for another. Both outputs on mine are deadly quiet.

You need to plug your guitar into the xlr input for the VB to effect it (it’s a vocal effect). The instrument input effects the signal going to the xlr input. The VB effects will be out of the xlr. The instrument out passes the signal frm the instrument input unaffected. To get the whistle sound I don’t thing you need anything connected to the instrument input. So, long story short, ya need to adapt your guitar to xlr, then back to 1/4″.

    Happy whistling;)

A lil off topic, but I just checked out Melx’s Blog, and it’s awesome. Now the next guitar effect I want is a Hakko soldering iron!

If the Freeze is last, then you can sample the sounds coming out of all your other pedals, and play over top the sample with the same, or different settings. (Ex record a drone note with the infinite rev setting on the Cathedral, then play some lead with the Big Muff over top). If the freeze is first in the chain, then all the effects you have on after it will affect the Freeze. (Ex if you freeze a note, then turn on yer big muff, both the freezed (is that a new word now? Lol) sound and what ever you play over top will be “Muffed”.

    Hope that helps ya out.

P.S. Most of the time I like my delay last.. But I love the sound of my DLS and wah after my Deluxe Memory Boy. So I bought a Stero Memory Man with Hazarai. Now I have delay before and after;) And a lil trick with yer DL4 in loop mode: if you have the half speed button enabled (lit LED) before you record your loop, you get double the record time, from 14 to 28 seconds. Quality is sacrificed, but I never noticed in a live setting.

in reply to: V256 designed by same EMS engineer as Voicebox? #114747

I had heard something about him working on the V256, but wasn’t sure if he worked on the VoiceBox as well. I love the vocoder in the VooceBox. Been runnin my Korg R3 into a BMPwTW and then into the VB. Having preprogrammed melody lines in Ableton allows me to twiddle the knobs while I play. Deadly:)
