TheGhostMachinaMemberHey Bill;
Got my HOG this past weekend, and I can’t stop playing with the thing! It’s hands down the best pedal I’ve ever owned.
I do a lot of work with Ableton live, looping my guitar and vocoder to create live dance/pop-rock. I’ve been using clips in Ableton to control the HOG via midi, time sync’d to my songs. This is an amazing feature that has allowed me to create Microsynth type sounds, amoung others, without needing to operate the expression manually.
I’m wondering if you’ve used this function of the HOG? I haven’t found much online about others implementing midi in this way.
Keep up the good work.. Looking forward to the next installment of Effectology!

TheGhostMachinaMemberTnk you for the quick reply!
I was under the impression the presets were saved in the footswitch, rather then locally on the HOG. If this is in fact the case, then you are correct, my method will not work.
Anyone from EHX wanna weigh in on this subject? I’d love to have 12 presets!

TheGhostMachinaMemberI to have had the hum from my Voice Box at certain clubs. I keep my Voice Box in my keyboard rig, and power it with it’s own adaptor.
I also keep 2 Radial JDIs in my rig for trouble shooting purposes. When my Voice Box hums at a club, I’ll put a DI in between the output of my sound card (used to send the carrier to the Voice box) and the input of the VB. Basically, I’m using the DI backwards to take advantage of the ground lift. You’ll need some 1/4 TRS to XLR adaptors to do this.
I also keep some 6″ XLR pin lifts in my rig, so I can lift the output of the Voice box if needed. Every club is different. And you may have to try a variety of things until you find something that works for each place you’re gig’n.
Hope that helps!

TheGhostMachinaMemberI’ve been live looping (Guitar/Vox/Vocoder) with drummers, DJ’s, and complete bands for the last 3 years. I’ve been all around all the different live looping options. And based on what I’ve learned, and what I’d like to be able to do live, I wouldn’t recommend the 2880 (Sorry EHX).
Don’t get me wrong, I love Electro Harmonix, and all the pedals they make. I just found out my HOG has arrived, and can’t wait to go pick it up. But when it comes to looping, especially live, I only have one thing to say ; Ableton. And if you’re already using computers (MacBook w/Snow Leopard 10.6) this shouldn’t be a problem.
However, I suggest you check out JackRouter/JackPilot. I use this app to run audio between my soundcard, Ableton, and back again. This enables me to keep latency around 5ms (in/out) combined. I wasn’t able to perform live with the Coreaudio drivers. Too much delay. Once I found this little app (www.jackosx.com) all my problems where solved.
Hope that helps. Sorry I can’t fix yer 2880;)
TheGhostMachinaMemberAlmost forgot.. A BIG thanks goes out to DarkAxel for informing me of the internal control pot on the Dr. Q. Took a lil tweeking, but it really helped dial in the sound I was looking for.
TheGhostMachinaMemberI’ve been meaning to post my pedal board for awhile now.. But I keep buying new EHX pedals, to replace all the boss ones, and I wanted to wait until I was happy with the setup. Not quite finished yet.. Still waiting for my HOG to come in the mail. But here’s what I’ve got so far…
P.S. Not pictured is my Boss DM-300 vintage delay machine, EHX VoiceBox, M-Audio Axiom 25, and MacBook running Ableton. The M-Audio expression pedal controls feedback on the Deluxe Memory Boy, the PS-15 is tap tempo on the Giga Delay.. And the DD-3 has a 5′ loom (signal/power) so I can pick it up and make delay swooshing sounds over the loops I’ve made in Ableton. I run this whole set-up thru my laptop and into a Mesa Boogie 4-Forty.

http://www.myspace.com/sleeptodreamTheGhostMachinaMemberI’ve been live looping with various pieces of gear over the past 5 years. Just thought I’d let ya know that you can half the DL4 before recording your first loop to get 28 secs. But at half quality;)
I’ve tried the boss pedals, but low end models lack midi, and the flagship only records at 44.1. I would love to say I settled on the 2880, but in the end I went with Ableton Live 8, and an Audio Kontrol soundcard from Native Instruments. This gives me 2 ins (vox/gtr) and 4 outs (tracks, IEM, gtr, and vocoder carrier witch feeds my VoiceBox).
Check out http://www.reverbnation.com/theghostmachina for some audio demos of my live looping.. All songs recorded live, no overdubs. Unfortunetly, these songs were recorded before I replaced my Boss pedals with EHX. I’ll be re-recording newer versions, with video, very soon. Just waiting on my HOG to arrive!
Hope this helps.
