The Ghost of Sim TutMember
Here you go guys…
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberI’ll try to help. If I play a standard tuned guitar with fuzz, pinch harmonics sound good and natural with no glitchiness. I also play “kind of” a baritone guitar. It’s a univox hi-flier bass, which is short-scale with floppy strings in standard tuning, so I use very light bass strings and tune it up to BEAD, so its a lower pitch than a guitar, higher pitch than a bass. I don’t do much pinch harmonics on that instrument but again, its clean and clear with no glitchiness. And I love using it as a tremolo in the ring mod modes. With the expression pedal you can vary the rate. I like this better than a tap trem.
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberI like the Bass MS too for both. Fat.
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberQuote:Polvo. They were awesome.
That must’ve been great. How about Shellac, did that happen yet? I saw them at the Unitarian Church in Philly maybe a year and a half ago and it was excellent. Shellac may be my favorite band all-time. Them or Barkmarket.
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberWell, 13 pedals, 5 or more of them are gain pedals, plus you have a compressor, the signal pad, a line booster, the sonic maximizer, and a combination of analog and digital pedals. Your noise is coming from having too much stuff. True bypass ceases to be a benefit when there’s that much cable going on. Oh yeah, the cables themselves are probably contributing as well. Don’t add a noisegate, which will just compromise the guitar tone even more. Too too too much processing. Also, I don’t get having the lpb-1 before the compressor as the first two pedals. You’re boosting the signal then squashing it down immediately.
The Ghost of Sim TutMember9.6VDC 200mA power supply included. The info is found here: https://www.ehx.com/products/riddle
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberWhy would you do anything other than return it? It’s new. You work hard for that money. You deserve a pedal that works. They’ll give you another one.
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberAnd I would have the pog2 after distortion. I had only the Micropog but I liked it after filters and fuzz. I guess it depends on what the distortion is. The whole Pog line really does sound good all the way down the chain.
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberI like to do one up close, one farther away in the room. That may be 2 ft or well across the other side.
That said, I’m pretty lazy and haven’t established a good sounding room in my new house (the room is the most important part of miking an amp), so I’m becoming quite accustomed to DI. I use a Behringer Ultra G, which has the unique option of accepting a speaker out from an amplifier (instead of line-out). I put it between my old Peavey 5150 head and cab, direct to the board, and am very surprised with how satisfied I am. The sound I got on tape is just like what I heard in the room.
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberThe MicroPog is actually not true bypass. Surprised you’re hearing a click, but is it really that unworkable? Rock n’Roll is noisy, no?
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberI’m not sure how a compressor would help with harmonies/lack of perfect pitch. If you can’t sing the note going in, I figure it won’t harmonize correctly. A compressor probably sounds good with the voicebox and all, but it won’t correct your pitch.
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberThe Ghost of Sim TutMemberQuote:Can you tell me how you connected the Kaossilator to the external mod input? Is there some sort of conversion that needs to take place? (What kind of outputs does the kaossilator have? Just audio?)thanks!!
You can use the headphone-out of the Kaossilator with a mini-to-mini stereo jack, then put a 1/4″ adapter on the tip to plug it into the RT. You have to turn the pedal’s ‘Wave’ knob full left or external oscillation won’t work.
My set-up’s actually more complicated, as I have the Kaossilator in a stereo channel on my mixer (with rca cables), then run the effects send to the Kaossilator. This way I can use the Korg on its own or into the RT.
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberQuote:You could always order a right angled plug and replace it.Indeed. Capitol idea. I’m just going to put an adapter on it though. Since the other expression pedal surprisingly weirded out on me I don’t want to alter it, just in case.
The Ghost of Sim TutMemberJust got home from a too-long trip to find the Moog EP2 had arrived. Thankfully, it works perfectly. Functionally, its doing what its supposed to do. Feature-wise its better than the Boss because it’s metal, heavy and stays where I put it. Also, it was $40 instead of the ludicrous $79 for the Boss. Plus, it says Moog on it. The one negative (for me) is the attached cable is straight instead of angled. Whatev..
So anyway, if anything else goes wrong I’ll report back but Sim Tut’s official recommendation goes to the Moog EP2. Yup, I’m official.
