The EH ManModerator
I’d say you’ve got a bad switch, then. You should be able to find someone locally to replace it or you can buy a new switch and install it yourself. It’s pretty simple.
The EH ManModeratorThe EH ManModeratorSince they’re both the same output voltage/current it won’t make any difference.
The EH ManModeratorSo, you’re not getting any signal in effect mode AND in bypass mode?
The EH ManModeratorInteresting. Hmmmmmmm….
The EH ManModeratorMeasuring at the switch with the pedal in the off position you should have infinite resistance. When it’s on you’ll have 0 ohms.
The EH ManModeratorThe easiest way is going to be open it up, unsolder a wire from the jack, and place the meter in series as described in the article.
The EH ManModeratorThere’s a couple of things it could be. A bad solder joint on the Blend control would cause that but my guess is that U5 has died. If you have an audio probe you can check for effected signal at the Blend control and the inputs/output of U5.
The EH ManModeratorIs there any signal at all coming out of the Grail when on?
The EH ManModeratorThe EH ManModeratorI don’t understand what’s going on there. The wiring in the pic looks OK, you said the switch tests OK.
Another possibility is a solder short on the switch between the lugs where the wire connects from the Volume pot and the wire from the output jack (the green and the yellow wires in your pic). That would cause the symptoms you describe. Take a look there and see if you can find any excess solder.W/ the pedal in the off position, take a meter and measure resistance between those 2 points. With the pedal off, it should be infinite resistance.
The EH ManModeratorQuote:The problem with the power supply with all the tube pedals is it has a very strange plug which I doubt you have, so regardless of the current you can supply it you probably will have to get the EH plug anyways. I guess you could hard wire some time of plug but who knows. You can buy the plugs by themselves easily at Mouser. I don’t remember what they are but they used to be called Norelco plugs. My Schaller amp uses them.
I think this is them: http://www.mouser.com/Search/ProductDetail.aspx?qs=sGAEpiMZZMtVoztFdqDXO/EZGjj4hkYQ
The EH ManModeratorQuote:Thanks for the info. I am just looking to streamline my pedalboard’s power supply arangement.Do you think I can I get away with 500mA?
Possibly. If you or a friend can measure the current draw with the EH adapter you’ll know for sure.
The EH ManModeratorI don’t think that would supply enough current for the tube filaments, let alone the entire circuit.
The EH ManModeratorIt’s a 3PDT footswitch. If the pedal’s new EH will fix it under warranty.
