I don’t want to get the thread off-track, as per electro-melx’s wishes, but it’d cost you around $30, if you’re really pushing for economy. You have to have decent soldering skills, ability to read a schematic, at least some basic drilling stuff… but not very much more than that. We’ll end the conversation there, though. If you want to know more, PM me, or something.
SiriustarMemberQuote:Quote:dude, ive seen some zvex stuff before in musiciansfriend catalog, but i just went to their website, and they have some really cool lookin pedals. i dont know if they all sound good, but they have a really cool selection. you should all check it out. http://store.zvex.com/#1they have really cool sounding pedals, like the wooly mammoth and the ooh wah. but unfortunately, they are like $350
Quote:zvex is basically the only pedal company that’s as cool as ehx. they just launched that online store, too, and the temptation to order a fuzz probe is mind-boggling.I just got one a few weeks ago, and its a really great sounding fuzz. and its really fun to use the theremin on it.
There’s actually a lot of disdain for Zach in the build-your-own-pedal community. The circuits are exceedingly simple, and the quality of the builds are typically not up to par (not for a $350 pedal, anyway), so what you’re really paying for is the paintjob. I don’t necessarily share these feelings, but I did build a Super Hard-On for $10. The phrase “price gouging” comes to mind….
SiriustarMemberQuote:I wouldn’t say that Zvex is the only one. There are a bunch of small and boutique builders making really cool stuff.
Yeah, Catalinbread, Barber, Subdecay, and Mid-Fi are all pretty cool. There are others too, of course.
SiriustarMemberYeah… I’ve sold the Micro POG since I wrote this review, and I replaced it with the POG2. The POG2 is really amazing, and if you can afford it, I’d recommend it any day over the Micro POG.
SiriustarMemberI agree on pretty much everything here. I took a peek inside, and MAN did they cram a lot in there. Sounds really good, though. There are a bunch of mini trims on the inside. I twisted one a little and it stopped working, so I twisted it back. Don’t think I’ll mess with that again.
SiriustarMemberYeah, definitely would have to be digital. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. Modulation, distortion/boost/OD/fuzz, filters, certain delay applications should all be analog (IMO), but more advanced delay stuff and non-octave pitch stuff really needs to be digital. I think that they might be able to apply some of the Voice Box technology to the arpeggiator, but I’m not sure. My knowledge of digital circuits isn’t worth two beans.
SiriustarMemberSo she’d feel right at home!
Actually, it’s really not much of a vacation city. There are some places to go, and it’s a nice city overall, but yeah, she might get kinda pissed.
SiriustarMemberHm… does she like rain?
SiriustarMemberQuote:Maybe my next citytrip should be Portland, but I don’t think my girlfriend would like itIt’s a great city, man. I like it, anyway.
August 1, 2009 at 6:51 pm in reply to: New Electro Harmonix Memory Boy Analog Delay Pedal Video #100210SiriustarMemberAh! Now I’m going to have to have two delays… I might sell my Worm to buy this. I bought the worm for the vibrato and the wah, but now I’ve got the SubDecay Prometheus, and if I get this, I don’t think I’ll be going to the worm too much. Plus I can use my exp. for the worm for the Memory Boy. Yeah, I guess I’ll be off to Craigslist now.
SiriustarMemberQuote:Surprisingly, not really. I just see most of the owners/builders at trade shows and things like that. I’ve met a ton of them, but haven’t really seen their operations.I plan on fixing that, though . I want to go to Portland and see the Catalinbread and Subdecay shops, soon. If I’m ever in NYC the EHX Factory would be a must see.
I gave Catalinbread an e-mail, and they said something about not being set up for visitors right now, though they might set up an actual shop somewhere. I think Brian over at SubDecay would probably be up for it.
I live here in Portland. I feel pretty lucky to be near Catalinbread, Subdecay, and Proguitarshop. Not to mention all the great bands that reside here….
SiriustarMemberThe Mid-Fi Clari(not) does the warped tape thing at some settings.
