ScruffieMember
I’m in the UK and can take a look at it for you if you want, although it’ll have to be after christmas.

ScruffieMemberOh it has the on/off LED rather than the power LED, that schematic is slightly different then, the direct output connects directly to the input jack…
Could be your lead (seems obvious but had that one before) the foot switch, the input jack its self, a loose ground or something causing a short.
I recall helping someone debug the same model as yours and they had issues with the ground wire that was connected to the blend pot in there unit, could be something to look at after ruling out the foot switch.
ScruffieMemberOkay, can you follow a schematic?
Build your self the audio probe from this page http://www.diystompboxes.com/wiki/index.php?title=Debugging
Check you have signal at the left side of the .1 cap coming from the input, then check pin 1 of IC1A and the outside lugs of the blend pot to start with.
Does the direct output work? It might be the foot switch, you can use a multimeter to test it for continuity.
ScruffieMemberHave you checked all the wires are properly connected inside? Otherwise a schematic and a multimeter will be required.
ScruffieMemberAlways glad to help stop vintage EHX becoming a door stop
November 12, 2014 at 12:20 pm in reply to: SuperEgo does not work properly / wrong supply polarity #120390ScruffieMemberIf it has one, the polarity protection diode probably fried and is a dead short.
If it doesn’t… the damage may be worse.
Best bet is to send it to EHX and cross your fingers.
ScruffieMemberPedalparts is good, nah you don’t need to worry about that too much in this case.
ScruffieMemberWhere are you located? UK you can use bitsbox.co.uk, US you can smallbearelec.com, Europe Banzaimusic or, you can get an extremely cheap one from Taydaelectronics.com, their quality on a lot of stuff is sub-par but the bourns 3362 trimmers they offer are perfectly okay, shipping can take 2 weeks though as it’s based in Asia.
ScruffieMemberYou can use 100k, you may find it’s very touchy though… 22/25k (depends if you’re in Europe or US as to which will be the standard value) would probably be better.
From memory as i’ve never done this mod, it increases the gain of the input stage so you may find especially if your pickups are hot that some distortion is introduced in to the signal.
To be honest, the best and only way to properly defeat the small stone volume drop is to build up a small boost circuit and hook it directly between the pedal output and the footswitch… something like an LPB-1 would be fine and can be built on a small piece of vero board quite easily. You can visit either DIYStompboxes.com or Madbeanpedals.com’s forums and there’s a lot of helpful and friendly DIYers who can help guide you through the entire process (my self included) although be warned… DIY can be quite addictive
ScruffieMemberRemove the resistor (R6) tie together 2 adjacent pins of the trim pot together (legs 1 & 2 or 2 & 3, doesn’t matter, it’ll just change which direction the trim pot works) stick the single pin in the hole where one of the resistor legs went and the other 2 pins in the other hole.
Hope that makes sense.
ScruffieMemberNo, the small clone and small stone are entirely different circuits.
ScruffieMemberYup, he is.
ScruffieMemberThe problem is at the first half of the 4558, dig around and find out why pins 1 & 2 are 15V (should be about half supply).
ScruffieMemberI don’t see why not, it’s only used in the LFO/VCO, can’t hurt to try.
Saying that, for £2.14 you can have a 339 delivered from bitsbox.
