  • in reply to: The Old Audio Demo’s! Where are they? #87418

fwiw, this is actually a rather big job — one nice thing about the old EHX site (the one that preceded the Flash-based site that preceded the one we have up now) was that Andromeda (my MP3 server software) did all the busywork — and, fwiw, the audio clips weren’t on the previous Flash site — so they haven’t been available for close to a year.

Meaning, with Andromeda, we just made folders and subfolders, and copied the MP3 files in — and Andromeda then automatically turns all of that into a complete site that you can browse and play.

But now there’s no simple way to get them up — again, I’m totally open to specific suggestions?

It’s on the list — imho, the videos do a much better job of demonstrating the products, so we put the focus on them.

Regarding audio, I still need to come up with a simple way of making the audio clips available — I lean toward a simple Flash play putton (but that then wouldn’t be a link to the MP3 file). The old site used my Andromeda software (see here) but that isn’t as good a fit for the new site (assuming that the audio clips should be integrated into the product pages)…

    Any thoughts/suggestions?

Yet another great catch F&EHX;– you have a sharp eye! :)

fwiw, Hop Studios is the dev team that helped set up the CMS (which includes the product pages, blog, and forums).

Here’s a story about the new EHX site from Wired:

And here’s a story by ExpressionEngine (the CMS we’re using):

If you care about this sort of stuff, I also posted a credits page listing everybody who helped:

Thanks for putting this guy on my radar, he’s a very cool talented musician….

I think he’s great. I had first stumbled onto this video a while back, and just loved it — and then I happened to notice the EHX in it — and that is partly what lead to the idea of having user-generated videos on the new EHX site.

I’ve posted a few other Conte clips to the blog, and he has now produced a few “official” clips for us (the Bass Muff, Deluxe Mistress, and Holiest Grail). But the EHXs in his version of The National Anthem are all just his editing choices (ie, we had nothing directly to do with this clip, other than that some EHX pedals are contributing to his sound).

It’s a good idea to keep a Notebook around that is dedicated to your sound. For example, draw or write down your settings on your amplifier, FX Pedals, or anything else that has number value on it. Also the order of your pedals is a nice thing to write down and label it for each sound your going for. This way, the Dial Gremlins won’t chancge anything while you are sleeping….. they’re everywhere these days.

    FUZZ

I think it was MING who mentioned a suggestion via the Harmony Central forums — we should consider posting “blank” pedal images, basically just the product screens — and folks could then print those, and jot down specific settings, and add whatever notes. Seems handy to me…

in reply to: Scott, maybe some pictures of your collection??? #86735

The miserable thing is that all of my wonderful old stuff is probably long gone (Instant Replay, Space Drum, Domino Theory, Three Phase Liner, and on, and on). Since I grew up with the stuff, it was always “just there” — same goes for Mike, I’m sure he wishes he still had copies of all sorts of things — “you don’t know what you’ve got till it’s gone.”

When I was in junior high/high school, I used to keep a massive pedal setup — enough that the cumulative noise would start to play itself. In college, I had to downsize, and wound up with my Graphic Fuzz and 16 Second DD — more recently, I really like the Tube Zipper. In fact, working on the new EHX site has got me excited to dig around and try my mothballed pedals again. (I even have some ideas about TOTALLY NEW pedals… :)

I still have a factory tour on my list — I do hope you agree that these EHX forums were reasonably a higher priority? ;)

I was expecting a Phaser effect that you plugged into a guitar and wore around you neck!!! (I know that sounds crazy, but this is EHX after all!!)

Well, perhaps not quite as crazy as a phase shifter that you wear as a necklace — but I can add to the story…

For a short while, Electro-Harmonix actually had a little outlet within Bloomingdale’s (a fancy department store in NYC) that sold the EHX light art. It was a little room decked out to look like something from Alien, black molded-plastic walls, covered with LEDs, and staffed by classically freaky EHX folks. For anybody that might remember the 48th street store, it was like that, but transplanted into Bloomingdale’s.

It kills me to see the stuff that Ron has.

Here’s a portion of my collection. Mainly vintage EH stuff. Not pictured are the amps, guitars, wahs, and rack stuff.
You can see more of my stuff in the articles section of my EH website. See sig for the URL.

Dang it, now I miss my Domino Theory… :(

I agree with Ming about the low wattage tube amp – Didn’t there used to be this little amp in a nice looking wooden cabinet? I think i remember it on the old website, but can’t remember what it was or whether it was solid state or tube.

yes there was……it was cute, but I never saw one for sale in a shop, maybe they weren’t available outside of the US?

There was a nice little Sovtek Midget Combo tube amp — but the EHX Freedom Amp wasn’t tube (it’s portable/battery) — in addition to the post with Yngwie and his Freedom Amp (here), there’s another about the Ramones’ first gig at CBGB (here)…

in reply to: 40th Anniversary? #86585

Actually, it was 1968 — which also happens to be the 40th anniversary of me. :)

You want something special? How about an all-new Web site, with amazing user-generated videos, and a forum with awesome mods? :)
