I, too, found the MOD effect on the Memory Toy unusable in stock factory form, but was able to open the back, find the MOD adjust trimmer and reduce the modulation to a more subtle setting. I like it a lot now.
Also, I own the #1 Echo and just wanted to say that that this is a great digital delay. I don’t feel that EHX tried to trick anyone into thinking that it was an analog unit, as it says clearly on the front of the case “Digital Delay”.

Royal8MemberHow do you like the PBJ? I had one and really liked it, but eventually replaced it with a #1 Echo. Being last in the signal chain, I wanted a metal jack on the last output for durability, plus, I do love the #1 Echo just as much.

Here is a picture of the pedalboard that I have been working on for about 5 years. There have been many pedals bought and sold, but I think I finally have it where I want it.

March 25, 2009 at 12:07 am in reply to: what amp and guitar do you use with your English Muff’n? #94854Royal8MemberMainly, an Epi Les Paul and a PV Classic 30.
My newest amp project is a PV Valve King Royal 8 which I have retrofitted into a vintage amp cab and added a Weber 12″ speaker.
Royal8MemberI’m usiong an Epi Les Paul std into a PV Classic 30 and a strat into a PV VK Royal 8 with a 12″ Weber in it.
Royal8MemberQuote:Quote:I didn’t like the smooth cylindrical stock knobs, so I changed them out with some vintage grooved ones. I also changed the screws that hold the tube guard down. I replaced them with a couple of the large head hand turnable screws that held the backs on some old pc’s.d
Do they come of easily?
’cause I’ve got an LPB-1 (and I’m getting an EM shortly) and I want to get me some chicken head knobs to replace the stock ones. That’s easier to see the setting, on stage.
I used 2 butter knives, one on each side of the shaft. I was then able to apply even pressure to both sides of the knob at once. Point the handles in opposite directions and lift both together very slowly, but firmly. I did this once to one side only, and pulled the shaft completely out of the pot. That sucked!!!
Royal8MemberGot one for Christmas.
Love it!December 20, 2008 at 12:18 am in reply to: order all the EHX pedals you’ve owned from favorite to least favorite #89236Royal8Member1. English Muff’n – Love it!
2. #1 Echo – Sweet delay!
3. Late 70’s Small Stone (orange lettering like the one in my avatar)
4. NYC Big Muff pi – w/tone bypass mod
5. The Worm – sold
6. Nano Muff – soldRoyal8MemberI put my Small Stone before the SuperComp to help with the volume drop. It’s not that bad without the comp, but it sounds great with the comp in place.
Royal8MemberRoyal8MemberI’ve wanted to try the Guv’nor for ages. What are they similar to in terms of gain and tone?
Royal8MemberI don’t remember what brand or size it was. I sold it back in May. It didn’t seem to lose head room; it did, however, seem to reduce the signal to unity. With the 24v it was very…gainy. It sounded like an idle tube amp with the gain turned up. Very “white noiseish.” The lower voltage cleared it up immediately.

Royal8MemberIt comes stock with a 24volt adapter. I found a 14volt adaptor that had the same polarity and same size barrel jack. That alone got rid of 95% of the noise.

Royal8MemberI checked yours, Ned, and I am by-passing only the pot. I didn’t mess with the caps at all.
The link is to a google web doc, I don’t know why it won’t work for you. Is it just giving you a blank screen or what? You have to maximize the screen that pops up in order to advance the slides. Do you have your pop up blocker on?
Anyway, I like the way you did it.
Dave
Royal8MemberI don’t like to get to effectsy either. I try to keep my gear simple and to the point. I would consider the SMM w/H, though. I’ll have to try one at GC sometime.
The Blues Breaker is an awesome overdrive. I use it mostly to boost the signal going into the Muff’n. If I’m playing just blues, the Blues Breaker/Surf Trem combo is hard to beat, especially through my Classic 30.
