Well, as a fact, while designing the final Tube Zipper,
the “input GAIN” never was intended to function as a pre-filter overdrive,
but rather as a possibility to adapt low-gain pickups and other signalsources
to get “unity-gained” for clean purposes,
and as well to be able to pad down hot pickups, to attenuate them,
so as to be able to play clean even with active basses…

The intended distortion happens after the (“Pure Tube”-)filter
hitting into the built-in “Pure Tube” distortion after it,
which can be controlled with the “Drive”-knob.

The overall output signalstrength is scaled down then internally
so as not to physically “kill” any following instrument/gadget/amp,
and mildly controlled with the “master” volume-knob.

THIS:

T-TRON-X-TT-L.jpg is the role-model of the Tube Zipper, – yes: even a knob more on the prototype…

(and a “cage” instead of a “grille”)

it has been advertised as: “maze” once, though…

a MAZE ing…

and: yep, one of the first 5 production pedals did have printing on the side…
(dunno `bout the current ones…)

oh, yes, and it did come in a russian pinewood slidetopbox!

scroll down half page: Hoffman tube-chassis…

BTW: like in the original E-H pedals, the “grille” is easily detachable…
(how else would you want to change the tubes? … if ever neccessary…)

Sir Jack: are you sure?
I mean: “Mix” and “Amount” turned all the way left?
(in any/regardless of all “Mode” positions?)

Sir Jack: that Hot Tubes in your avatar was designed while using a JCM900 via 4×12…
(clean channel, though…)

E-H proto’s? are any of those now in production or are they TBA?

Those were 10 of the “Dirty Dozen” prototypes that I brought to the “MusikMesse Frankfurt 2006”
for E-H as my freelance tribute to the motto “Heavy Metal Pedals”…

obviously not heavy enough, they didn`t pass the test…
(some other designer`s circuit was taken for the “Metal Muff”).

(I probably had listened to the Isley Brothers too much at that time,
and tried to get both the sound of “Who`s That Lady” and/or “Live It Up” into them…
it ended up as 12 variations on the theme, with different amounts of control-knobs 😆 )

From my second factory visit at the old Cooper Square site in 2001
I saved this photo of the psychedelicly painted elevator-entry:

Thanks for all the feedback — fwiw, if anything ever seems not to be working right, please do let me know!

Is there a chance to show the title of the relevant topic/thread in the subject line of the “Subscription Notification”?
(like Harmony-Central and DIYstompboxes do?).

Right now my OE in-folder is full of “EHX Forums” replies that all look the same,
while the replies from the other fora are all clearly distinguishable
so I can delete the old one as soon as I receive a new one,
without having to go to the mail to check out what it`s about…

Thanks for the question — I’ll ask, and if you later start to get the thread title within the alert email subject, then the answer is yes… :)

There ARE designers (here…) that don`t like to see their circuits/schemos being thrown around the web! ;) ;) ;)
