I realise this post is years old, but this is what I found while trying to search for the same questions so I thought I’d share my thoughts. Just got this pedal, great stuff!

In terms of where in the pedal chain to put this, I think it is best to think of the pedal as a type of harmoniser, i.e. it will play a differently pitched note depending on what you play. For these effects to generally work best (in terms of tracking etc.) you want the signal to be as ‘clean’ as possible, and therefore very early in your chain. Adding distortion (even very mild from a clean amp) can add overtones etc. which can muddle up the harmonics created by the pedal.

Having tried it in my fx loop as well as first in the chain (well after noise supressor and compressor) I must say that I prefer it BEFORE THE AMP. It seems a lot clearer to me, and well, better sounding.

Try both though! you might like it more the other way
