I just ordered one of these:

    https://truetone.com/time-bandit

I’m hoping that it is compatible as the website says that it is ‘[em]Ideal in the studio and on stage, the Time Bandit takes the sound of a click track or metronome and converts it to the type of signal that most delay pedals with an external tap tempo jack can read.[/em]’

Oh, well, that didn’t last long.

I found some other metronomes with more distinct beat sounds and they didn’t work and when I went back to the one I had used before, that didn’t work anymore either.

    Back to the drawing board.

I just spent another few hours trying to find answers online and have been on the verge of buying a couple of devices but thought I’d wait until I had a reply to this post and in the meantime, I had a crazy idea which I am anticipating some stick for even thinking.

Why not connect the headphone out from an old iPhone to the Tap/Click in jack and run a metronome app and see what happens.

Well, the app I have has several different sounds and I worked my way through them and the results were not promising but suddenly, as I reached one (which I couldn’t hear because the audio was going to the Super Pulsar), the LED started to pulse at half the metronome rate. When I listened later, it was the one which closest resembled a click but sounded a little tinny.

I’m quite astonished that it works. I can’t synchronise the tempo with the drums track but as long as it is in time, I can sort that out later in Logic.

Having played around with this for a while, the Super Pulsar takes about ten seconds to pick up the tempo so I am going to see if I can find a metronome app with a clearer click.

I tried using a separate power supply on the Grand Canyon as suggested but it didn’t make any difference so without having to root through all my boxes to find another power supply, I tried connect that one to the Super Pulsar and the Grand Canyon to the multi-output supply I have. That caused the noise to change but didn’t get rid of it so I then found another power supply and used that so that both the Super Pulsar and the Grand Canyon were on separate power supplies along with the PolyPhase on its 24v supply. Again, the noise changed but didn’t go away.

Eventually, after a lot of cable disconnecting, I found that the problem seemed to be caused by the two inputs being adjacent to each other on the mixer; I swapped the inputs around so that there were two channels between the two pairs and the noise seems to have gone away even with the Grand Canyon and Super Pulsar connected to the multi-output supply – which is a relief because there just aren’t enough mains sockets!

    Hello,

    Thanks for the advice.

I’m not saying that it has cured the problem but the electricity in my local area has been off all day today so I have only just been able to power up my gear and I was unable to hear the problem. I’m a bit tired right now so I’ll try again later but if it re-occurs, I’ll definitely try using the Grand Canyon power supply but as with any configuration, there is a shortage of power outlets.

Also, I’m planning to completely re-assemble the pedalboard again in the next few days to fix the base at a different angle, so no doubt there will be a new ‘feature’ or two for me to address.

I can’t say I have the specific technical knowledge to understand how each functions but the whole pedal bus on the GT-100 is on a mono TS jack which includes the MGT-4 (four switch with 3 character LED display) foot switch I have – so I suppose that I should assume that it is digital and that the EHX Expression Pedal is not.

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I’m using the stereo TRS cable which works with Grand Canyon.

It’s not a big deal if it won’t work with the GT-100, I just kind of thought that there might be a standard for expression pedals and I was just trying it out – I thought I might be able to use it as a wah pedal. I just realised from an image search that the EXP-1 is mono TS so it is probably not compatible.

I also have a Ravish Sitar but I haven’t given much thought to using it with that yet.
