The designators (R1,R2,C1,C2 etc) on this PCB are taken from the general guitar gadgets big muff schematic IIRC. You can get it at the site.

It’s not a battery. cable or equipment issue. #111832Ned FlandersModeratorThe sovtek traces on the PCB have been known to get hairline cracks in them, you cant see it but its there, this could be the problem. I had a green one do this. The only way you can find it is with a multimeter, testing every piece of trace for continuity. I’m not saying its this, just that its a possibility, especially if its been dropped hard…
Before I checked every section of trace it was doing my head in as nothing looked broken, in fact it looked brand new.The solution is a simple bit of solder over the invisible crack.
Ned FlandersModeratorBypass the tonestack and you’ll have more volume than you could possibly need! (Just cut the trace and jumper it)
Ned FlandersModeratorUnless you’re a big mogwai fan I don’t see the big deal with these, they are just NYC reissues inside (which is one of the nicest sounding muffs incidentally IMO). Now if they made a Mudhoney one, that would be a different story…(my biased opinion!)
Ned FlandersModeratorMy Jaguar with buckers until recently, now its a Gibson SG standard. Also les paul juniors with a humbucker p90.
Ned FlandersModeratorFender Jaguar. (with added humbuckers)
Ned FlandersModeratorYou can also true bypass it and keep the original switch, just dont have an LED. I have instructions if needed.
Ned FlandersModeratormost of them cap values were 22uF but variations existed too.
Ned FlandersModeratorThe double muff is two muff OD’s in series, one is slightly different to the first but its negligible imo.

The Ge muff dont interest me at all, surprisingly. Nor do any of the others really, i’m not into pedals anymore, I just use the 4 pedals that make my sound (no big muff either) and really have no interest in others.
I’m more interested in guitars these days, hence why i havent been around any effects forums for months.Ned FlandersModeratorif you wana know some other stuff about collector and emitter resistors in the muff read my article here: http://sovtek.webs.com/bmpgainfactor.htm
Ned FlandersModeratorWhat ROn said! Makes zero difference so long as its anode to cathode.
Ned FlandersModeratorFrom the back it looks just like the very first reissue muff, the year 2000 3003 issue. And the PCB states that also. In all likely hood these mogwai muffs are just a stock muff with special graphics, nothing more…IMO. Also Scott Mathews ‘thinks’ they are too, he’s not 100% but……
Ned FlandersModeratorYou will get slightly closer with the current standard NYC muff than a LBM IMO. But, what you need to know about J’s sound is that its not just a Muff, its a 100Watt overdriven marshall (tube distortion) AND a muff that is his trademark sound.
