Ned FlandersModerator
Hey Rick, don’t forget the vintage muffs, specifically the 1978 opamp model and the 1981 3034 model had tone bypass. They have that same sound the wicker has in tone bypass mode.
Ned FlandersModeratorI wanted a big box version because I like big boxes, I have a XO pulsar I’ll trade you chris if yours is stock?
Ned FlandersModeratorYou’d be surprised how many people think its two big muffs.
Ned FlandersModeratorOh, i forgot about that.
Maybe send it to howard davis to get it modded for a regular adapter jack. I plan to mod a deluxe big muff like this when I eventually get one cause I’m in AU too.Ned FlandersModeratorCool, just so you know its not a fuzz pedal, its two overdrives in series. It can get fuzzy with both on but not as fuzzy as a big muff. Its still a cool pedal nonetheless.
Ned FlandersModeratorDon’t bother with stepdown transformers, just buy the UK adapter from analog man and get a plug converter, they are about 2 bucks in cheap as chips stores.
UK and AU adapters are compatible, the pins are the only thing that need converting.Ned FlandersModeratorQuote:Isn’t the Swollen Pickle based on the opamp Muff?It uses transistors, see my above post.
Its similar to the violet ramshead muff, but different.
The swollen pickle and big muff schematic are identical, only parts values are different, its nothing more than a slightly modified big muff.I posted an opamp big muff clip comparison in this thread a few posts up, its the seventh post.
Ned FlandersModeratorThe swollen pickle uses transistors, they look like an opamp but they are not, they are known as a transistor array. Just four transistors in a casing the same as an IC casing.
Ned FlandersModeratorMost importantly, how does it work…is it as good as you hoped?
Ned FlandersModeratorBoth as it depends on the effect, for fuzz, distortion, chorus, flangers and phasers I will only use analog but for octave, loopers and delay I like digital.

Quote:I went back to the music store and checked out the Russian muff again and I may have exaggerated the size difference. Still, something about it seems different from the one I had before. Maybe the one I had was a 90’s version.January 20, 2009 at 9:41 pm in reply to: Can someone shed some light on this new smaller russian BM? #91283Ned FlandersModeratorYou Americans have way better garage sales than in Au because all the cool gear is made in the US and there’s a lot more of it around than here. US gear sold here is so expensive so that’s why I always buy from the US as its cheap even with expensive shipping. Its a shame I cant buy online at garage sales.LOL
I’ve heard of people getting mint condition vintage Jaguars and Jazzmasters for $50 at garage sales,WTF!!!
January 20, 2009 at 8:55 pm in reply to: Can someone shed some light on this new smaller russian BM? #91273Ned FlandersModeratorI pray (and I’m agnostic) for the day I find an old mint condition Big Muff collection in some old lady’s garage sale that she sells me for $25.
:rawk:January 20, 2009 at 8:44 pm in reply to: Can someone shed some light on this new smaller russian BM? #91271Ned FlandersModeratorI found the thread on HCFX where a smaller one is mentioned and I can safely say NO there’s no new smaller russian coming out.
The current russian muffs ARE indeed smaller than the old green and black ones and this is the source of confusion.
SOmeone has obviously been in the dark since the late 90’sLOLJanuary 20, 2009 at 8:34 pm in reply to: Can someone shed some light on this new smaller russian BM? #91269Ned FlandersModeratorThe difference is the one with six screws is way more heavy duty and the two halves fit together differently, I have both the six screw one and the four screw one and the four screw one is more like the NYC metal just black is all, its also about the same size as the old triangle muff. Both have reversed jacks.
