As far as I’m aware no, its more of an overdriven sound than a big muff sound.
Check youtube for some ideas on it.Also the wicker muff is Just like a standard 2008 big muff unless you turn on the switches. SO yes, its a big muff, an ordinary 2008 style big muff.
Ned FlandersModeratorIf you cant find one at you local electronics store you can get them here:
http://www.smallbearelec.com/Detail.bok?no=37or in EU here: (you’ll have to find it as I dont have a direct link cause I dont use this site)
http://www.banzaimusic.com/Or you can also go to your local fender dealer and order in part number:0017079000
Its for a jaguar rhythm circuit but is identical to the one you need and is made by switchcraft.Ned FlandersModeratorIf you wana really good muff buy the tone wicker muff or the 2008 NYC muff (basically a tone wicker muff without the bells and whistles) they really are the best muffs EHX has put out since the 80’s, easily!
I like the one you have actually, its really thick. its not my favorite but I still like it.
I own more than a couple of muffs and I’ve only been collecting for 2 years: (but there’s members here that put me to shame with how many they have:lol: )
http://i1016.photobucket.com/albums/af286/fenderamerica/Big Muff/MYBIGMUFFS.jpgNed FlandersModeratorI live in the magical land of Oz where musical things cost an arm and a leg! 😆
It works out ok cause then all the spares i use on other guitars tunings so i don’t really waste too many strings all in all.
Ned FlandersModeratorYeah, thats all small bear sells for muffs in the sovtek ones anyways.
BTW, they feel really shitty and cheap but if you treat them right they last years. And they are almost 4 times as much as an alpha but they are necessary to some people…i have bunch of them i bought for back ups! 😆
Ned FlandersModeratorWith this pedal the battery still runs dead even if you use an adapter so just use either one, dont have a battery in AND use an adapter.
Ned FlandersModeratorI dont change string much as i play a jaguar mostly which is bright even with old and dull strings so i can get away with it and I never break strings either so I leave them on for months at a time.
Ned FlandersModeratorI always have the same gauge and tuning on the bottom two strings for that droning sonic youth-esque sound. I have one guitar tuned in DDDDAA ,its my favorite tuning! As for the tunings I created, i dont give them out cause I’m kinda secretive about how I do things musically. 😆
NOTE: you should always swap gauges when you use odd tunings to get the most out of your guitar, dont stick to a standard set, make your own sets. It takes me two or three sets or more to string one guitar. That’s one of the reasons I buy 24 packs at a time for 3 bucks each set from http://www.webstrings.com/ great strings!
Doing this also prevents some strings being too tight and some being too loose.
Ned FlandersModeratorIs it true bypass? makes a big difference to it. you have to use grounded input though or it will oscillate in bypass mode with the color switch up. Here’s a diagram i done if you need one:
http://i1016.photobucket.com/albums/af286/fenderamerica/Pedal Schematics/MYTBSWITCH.pngNed FlandersModeratorPost a gut shot of it, a hi res clear with plenty of light pic showing the switch, PCB and jacks and I may be able to help you out.
If not, I’m an Ozzie and I repair Big muffs if need be.
Ned FlandersModeratorI have a 79 one myself and I love it, its awesome. Sme current graphic too.
Ned FlandersModeratorYes it is. Either ground or Ring in the case of a stereo jack which it will have. you’ll see where it came loose anyways.
Ned FlandersModeratorI never play in regular tuning. Check out this site for some interesting ones: http://www.sonicyouth.com/mustang/tab/index.html
Ned FlandersModeratorVersion ?(Would you believe it, I forget the number!) Anyways its the 2000 revision done by fran from frantone electronics. There’s a 2008 model out now, it sounds slightly different.
I call it version 7 because I dont class the Sovtek muffs as part of the same series of pedals as they arent EHX(well they are and arent, its subjective), kit rae would call it something else but considering its a EHX NYC BMP pedal, that makes it a version 7 in my book. I call the sovteks by v1,v2,v3 etc with the red army overdrive being version1 of sovtek.
But considering a lot of people go to kits site for version numbers i dont call them by my version numbers, I usually use his numbering system to save confusion. But yes, its the 7th NYC Big Muff put out by EHX, the first one since the 3034 and since EHX went bust.
Kit calls it version 9!

Check his site out, its great although not 100% accurate IMHO ( this is subjective too), its damn close though!
Ned FlandersModeratorI think EH digital stuff kicks ass! Its great, I used to be so anti-digital, then the BOSS RC-2 changed my mind on that slightly, then the SMMH made me not give a damn!*
*except for dirt pedals.
