December 17, 2009 at 11:17 pm in reply to: EHX Memory Man with Hazarai – Tone and slight volume drop when activated is normal? #105495Mr.GrimMembersame here….haven’t noticed any tone change but theres definitely a volume drop…..i love EHX there number 1 in my book, but unfortunately sum of there pedals do that. i use an LPB-1 with pedals that have a volume drop and use a switch pedal like the Switchblade to turn both of the pedals on and off together.
Mr.GrimMemberi absolutely love many cheeses as well, but honestly this is an odd post.
when i first seen the topic, i looked under it and expected to see Friedjesseradio’s name as the post’er…..lol…..no offense jesseDecember 15, 2009 at 8:17 am in reply to: Wahs – Clyde Deluxe vs EVH vs Slash vs Dunlop 535Q vs MC 404 CAE #105373Mr.GrimMemberim currently using a CryBaby Classic with “Fassel” GCB-95F. and i like the sound a lot, its one of my more favored wah’s ive owned. the only problem is keep a spare footswitch lying around. because mine broke after using it for one month, sumthing inside it snapped and it stayed on. luckily it was a quik 10 minute fix since i had a spare lying around, seeing i make/mod pedals once in a while and build guitars. ive never had a switch go bad on me in a Dunlop like that before but when searching online, i guess im not the only one.
Mr.GrimMemberpersonally i just love the full version of the Metal Muff with top boost. i cant get over it i get nice subtle OD and screaming high leads to crunchy metal rhythm licks. its very versatile on the OD/distortion area with the included 3 band EQ
although i personally wanted a tube distortion at first as well, im always wanting things to be all valve, but i still went for the MM because it had what i wanted sound wise and i still get the tube sound, because i play threw a tube amp, and use a tube compressor (Black Finger), so theres tubes on both sides of it in the signal anyway.
Mr.GrimMemberi know its been done in rock from one type to aanother, but i cant think of them off hand.
but slightly different situation would be: Vanilla Ice, he later after a drug issue or being broke (one or the other i personally dont remember or care at all honestly) he came back and tried to do a rock album as apposed to his earlier rap work. he being a nobody at this point failed at it but i do remember catching a bit of 2 tracks and thinking it wasn’t in my taste but it was pretty good!
a another example would be…..shit i cant remember his name but hes the dad in Hannah Montana and he was a country star in the 90’s with “Acky Breaky Heart” and later in his career he tried to change his image a bit and try a fake name to try and do a rock album, but i haven’t herd any of it.
Mr.GrimMemberi got 4 stickers from my pedals, 3 are about 3″ circles of the rams head face (they look like the ones they put on the back of there speakers), and the other is about 7″ long and 2″ rectangle, it says Electro Harmonix strait across it with a small rams head.. i think 1 of the circuler ones is unused, but the others i have placed on my 2 pedal board cases (one per case centered, its the only sticker to advertise whats inside, actualy looks nice on the black and metal boxes) and one on a black suitcase lookin box, that i use for cables and extras when i gig.
Mr.GrimMemberwow nice collection of treadles WatsonWood. they seem to be in like new condition, way better then ones pictured online as references.
Mr.GrimMemberdam you Stephengiles for posting that link, i spent all day there….lol
checking out all the DIY’s that is, not searching for one article.
Mr.GrimMemberi personally haven’t figured that out completely myself, i too have all 3 boosters. (ether way i got to have everything EHX)
i use the Mole (on guitar) to give myself a little more low end for rythem licks, like a Korn sound (my playing isn’t like there’s just the tone)
the Screaming Bird for solo boost.
and i have 2 LPB-1’s (one nano one classic LBB-2), i use them after specific pedals that have a volume drop (i love EHX but unfortunately sum pedals do that), and i use 2 Switchblades (both classic)to activate the pedals together so it only boosts its paired pedal simultaneously when i want.
personally i would prefer to have the original EHX pedals on my board, but sum one with the know how(like myself) who wants to save room could make a mod to there pedals with a selector switch, or build a clone altogether, that has all three pedals in one selectable with a second (1 or 2) footswich or 3 way toggle switch, seeing that all three of those effects have the same schematic, only a couple different swapped out values to make the boosting sound different.
December 10, 2009 at 10:01 pm in reply to: Hum when using other than supplied 9V power supply #105161Mr.GrimMemberthere are many factors that go into the noise, power supply being the main one, so everyone’s experience with multi power units are different.
in my case i currently have about 16 pedals on the board im using (more on the shelf of course) and i use 2 VS one Spots on all the pedals i can (9v ones that is) including the SMMWH, and i get no noise whatsoever!
December 10, 2009 at 9:26 pm in reply to: Best Bargain Guitar/Bass/Effect at a Pawn Store You’ve Had? #105155Mr.GrimMemberwell i got a custom shop fender strat for $150 ! they didn’t know that’s what it was, because the name on the headstock was scratched off (odd i know) but based on the fact the control cavity had a foil custom shop sticker, and it had matching serial numbers. it was black with a red tortoise pickguard, HSS pickup configuration, and rosewood fretboard.
other than that i got 2 amazing deals on Ebay!
i got a rare amp for $150 with flight case and shipping included!
its a Studiomaster Valve Leadmaster, they were only made in 1981-82. its a 60 watt tube combo, and it was made in england. IMO its a euro clone of a Mesa Boogie mark 2 C+.check it out!
http://www.studiomaster.com/1981 – 1982.htm
(i dont know why the whole thing dont highlight, you need to copy and paist it.)i love it, it sounds great, its my main amp now, and i own a Mesa dual rectifier stack and a peavey 5150 stack (first model)
and i also got on Ebay a sweet guitar, know one realy knows who made it but it looked nice so i gave it a chance for $200.
you got to check it out, i posted a topic on it. search for: “can anyone name this guitar?”
