    Would I be correct to assume that there would be less tone suck / volume loss than when using the three pedals seperately?

    I can press the footswitch and it work just fine and play for a good few minutes only for the sound to suddenly drop out again without even having touched the footswitch again. Could it still be a footswitch issue? If it’s any help the switch does always ‘click’ when stepped on. No connections or pots appear loose.

    The power supply seems to be notoriously cheaply fitted. Mine works its way loose more often than not and inside there’s certainly a rattle.

    Some of the other issues you mention I think are down to the nature of the tubes. Could it also be work checking the earthing in the house electrics?

    I also have a problem with my NYC Muff (thought I’d post in this same thread to avoid clutter…):

    Sometimes I switch on the Muff and there is either no sound, or the volume is very low. When this happens it often corrects itself after a few moments or if I hit the switch on/off.

    It can work just fine for a little while then the problem can return.

    This does not happen with any of my other pedals;
    I’ve replaced the battery and the problem remains;
    The input jack seems to not fit all the way in
    (i.e. there’s a 3mm or so gap between the nut and the jack cable so it’s not 100% flush):
    I’m not sure if this is entirely the root cause however?

    Any thoughts or suggestions would be much appreciated.

    mine only seemed to glow in one position and with a certain spec of valve. cant remember if ax7 or 5751, but it was on left hand side

    has anybody had any experience with “Cryo Valves” (http://www.watfordvalves.com/special.asp):

    “biggest area of interest to guitarists will be in the dramatic effect Cryo has on the way the tube or valve provides such a clear and unmuddled distortion.”

    Finally got those blasted screws out! Am enjoying playing around with these new tubes (12AX7 and 5751) :-) I think I agree that it can become a bit too much, gain-wise with both in – I’m glad I didn’t buy 2 12AX7s! I’ll probably stick with 12AX7 / 5751 on the left and the original 12AY7 on the right.

    The guys at the shop I bought it from have kindly offered to remove and replace the screws! I wish I’d asked sooner rather than simply worrying. So thanks to Sounds Great Music!

    yeah, if i manage to remove it ill certainly replace it with a different screw type! hopefully ill manage it as itd be ridiculous to have to exchange an item over something as little as a cheap screw!

    ill be happy as long as i can get that screw out! then i can replace it with a more robust pair of screws. its something ill need access to, so they wont need to be set as tight as they were. some of the engineers at work suggested i use the dremmel, but ill only try that as a last resort. ill probably try some double sided tape first as itll give the screwdriver something else to grip on to.

    as much as i love this pedal and i cant wait to try it with the new valves ive bought, theres one thing thats really annoyed me – the cheap screws on the foot guard. removing the philips screws on the foot guard, the first (right hand side) was fine, whereas the left hand one was so tight its not going anywhere. ive used the correct size and type screwdriver, but its so tight and made of such soft metal that whenever i turn the screwdriver it lifts over and out of the ‘plus’ and has damaged it. now im worried that i wont be able to remove it at all. so frustrating seeing how much i love this pedal and how careful ive been.

    i believe the plus model has spring, hall, room AND flerb. the flerb is just cut out of most photos as its obscured by the selection dial. ive checked in the pdf manual :-) although the size of the nano would be ideal, i think the increased functionality of the plus would override any size problems. the depth and amount controls would make all the difference, particularly with the flerb setting.

    im now torn between this and the memory boy! any thoughts?

    Thanks to everyone for your really helpful advice. I’ve ordered two EHX gold pin valves: a 12AX7 and a 5751. I’ll have a play about with various combinations and see how they sound!

    Reading up on valves I’ve seen the term “main driver position” come up time and time again. Can anybody shed any light on this? From what you’ve told me I would assume on the Muff’n this would be the left hand side valve slot?

    What difference does tube position make? I hear that it sounds different depending on which tube you replace – why is this? Cheers :-)

    Plus, probably a silly question (I have very little prior knowledge of valves…): could I put ANY valve in the Muff’n? I’ve been looking on http://www.hotroxuk.com and was wondering if all fittings are the same? Looking at the rectifier tubes, these seem to have an extra bit in the middle?

    Finally went for the Muff’n after 3 months of thought!! I’m really happy with my decision so far. Think I’ll order some replacement tubes to play about with. It’s a shame that you can’t register products online as I’ll have to post my warranty card from the UK to the US :-s
