Where are you people finding these things? I’m not about to go on eBay, and buy a pedal without trying it first. Not again. Even if that is how I bought a large percentage of my pedals. Anyway, the shops in my area, and I’ll bet the Chicago Music Exchange, don’t carry them, and I want to try one before I plunk down $90 on one, even though I probably will anyway. If it can do the earthquake-making bit my Carbon Copy can, I might just be able to offer up enough collateral for a Stereo Polyphase.

I don’t have a dealer where I am either. I recommend themadape.com. I got mine from them in days. It was malfunctioning so they immediately exchanged it. They also have a great “30 day return for a full refund no questions asked” policy which is the next best thing to trying it in a store. Truth be told, once you get your hands on this you will NOT want to send it back. It’s genius.

Not that this helps you but my Memory Boy exhibits low-fidelity repeats when the delay knob is turned past 2:00. Sometimes it doesn’t repeat at all. It does make warbly synth-y sounds when the knob is turned that high. I’ll listen for hiss when I get mine back. It’s at EHX because it was making a popping (and repeated popping) sound when I engaged it.

Otherwise it is an amazing pedal.

For what it is worth I also have an MXR Carbon Copy. The delays get longer when delay knob is turned clockwise, not the other way. Same as the MB.

You can forget about that last part. I got the delay pot working right. Thanks again for your help. Sorry to overwhelm you with info.

Though I suppose this could be built into the pedal. It’s at about 500 ms at 2:00. Maybe the rest of the range of the dial is for making funny sounds

There’s another problem. Suddenly the delay dial doesn’t work from about three o’clock to full. Beyond that you just hear the dry signal.

Also I tried all my pedals in front of it. They all did the same thing as the compressor did. They popped and repeated. Thanks for your attention to this matter.

It’s a great pedal by the way.

Yes it pops when 100% dry.

What is the procedure for getting the pedal fixed under warranty?

I’ll check it out when I get home from work. Thanks a lot. Remember it pops with or without the compressor. The compressor never pops on its own when I use it w/o the Memory Boy.

The compressor is an Analog Man Bi-Comprosser.

I recently got a Memory Boy and while playing it tonight, it started to audibly pop when I engaged the pedal. This was especially troublesome because, the Memory Boy being a delay pedal, the pop sound is repeated. The pop isn’t particularly loud. In fact I can’t even hear it with the blend all the way left. It’s the repeats that are the problem. Is this just something I’m going to have to live with? Does the switch need to be replaced? Thanks for your feedback.

This pop is most likely due to a bad capacitor on the output of the delay section. It should be fixed under warranty. Contact customer service and they will help you: info@ehx.com.

Wait there is more: I put a compressor pedal in front of the Memory Boy and experienced the same popping repeats when I engaged THAT pedal. Does this change the substance of your answer or clarify the situation at all?

Thanks for your rapid responses. I really appreciate it.

I hear you guys. I’m going to play around with it some more tonight. I already did actually and it definitely has its good points and special sounds. Not that it needs MY approval!

MOST LIKELY I’LL BE KEEPING THE CARBON COPY WHICH IS MUCH MORE PREDICTABLE.

No comparison where I’m concerned. The Memory Boy was designed for those of us who wanted a whole lot more than the Carbon Copy could hope to offer.

I understand you want more than the CC will give you, but what exactly are you getting that the CC can’t do? Out of tune modulation? Almost all superfast delay times? The delay knob seems to do slapback until around 3:00 before slowing down. Maybe I’m dense but I just can’t get it to sound the way I want it to.

SORRY FOR YELLING BUT MY KEYBOARD IS STUCK ON “CAPS LOCK” (COFFEE SPILLAGE RIGHT INTO THE KEYBOARD). DUH.

I MUST ADMIT I’M NOT AS WILD ABOUT THIS PEDAL AS EVERYONE ELSE. THIS IS MY FIRST ELECTRO HARMONIX PEDAL AND I KNOW THEY’RE QUIRKY BUT THE MEMORY BOY IS WAY OUT OF LINE IMHO. FIRST OF ALL ALL THE SLOWER DELAY SPEEDS ARE BEYOND 3:00 ON THE DIAL. I PREFER A MORE EVEN DISTRIBUTION (LIKE THE CARBON COPY WHICH I ALSO HAVE). ALSO THE MODULATION (CHORUS AND VIBRATO)IS MUCH TOO PRONOUNCED TO BE USEFUL TO ME. TURN UP THE DEPTH EVEN A SMALL AMOUNT AND IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR GUITAR IS OUT OF TUNE. SWITCH TO “SQUARE WAVE” AND THE PEDAL EMITS RANDOM NOTES OF A VARIETY OF PITCHES. IS THIS THE WAY THE PEDAL IS SUPPOSED TO WORK?? IN THE STORE IT WAS DOING THE SAME THING. I CHECKED IT OUT IN A SHOP THEN BOUGHT IT ONLINE WITH A 30 DAY REFUND POLICY. (THE SHOP ONLY ONLY GAVE STORE CREDIT ON RETURNS.) I’LL CONTINUE TO WORK WITH IT FOR A WHILE. IF IT DOESN’T IMPROVE IT’S GOING BACK TO THE MAD APE FOR A REFUND. MOST LIKELY I’LL BE KEEPING THE CARBON COPY WHICH IS MUCH MORE PREDICTABLE.
