sounds like the signal it’s getting is too ‘hot’ maybe.. what do you have going into it?
melxMemberQuote:No one can offer any help? Aren’t EHX employees on this board? As cool as EHX’s pedals are I must say their customer service is very disappointing
This Section of the EHX forum is a place where ‘forum members’ and ‘volunteer admin’ can
discuss technical problems and ask for help with using any EHX products, it is also the place where
YOU can help other members out by answering their questions. It is NOT “electro-harmonix technical support” for their customers.
Electro-harmonix staff do not regularly answer questions on this forum.

January 16, 2011 at 9:30 pm in reply to: Vintage Memory Man Solid State Echo/ Chorus (Boost Input) #113835melxMemberpound shop… just be careful it’s not just a plug adapter because if you put 240v into it it won’t like it at all!!
yeah, £16 sounds ok… well worth it on a pedal like this I think.
Nice find… enjoy.
January 16, 2011 at 4:18 pm in reply to: Vintage Memory Man Solid State Echo/ Chorus (Boost Input) #113815melxMemberNice… where did you get it? ebay, locally??
EHX often used different colours on the screen print…
that’s the converter I use for USA pedals, cheap and works fine, you don’t need anything heavy duty for a pedal.
also I see you need some knobs?
http://www.banzaimusic.com/Electro-Harmonix-Knob-D-axis.html
those are the ones…. not cheap and postage is quite high from there (around £6) but I don’t know anywhere in the UK to get them, I do order from Banzai quite often though, so I could always pick some up and them forward them on to you regular 1st class if you wanted, that would work out a bit cheaper.
melxMemberyeah, like you say you could add more knobs but I like the fact I can just plug them in and they sound great… I don’t really like having to spend ages dialing something in… the simplicity is a plus for me.
…as far as I’m concerned it’s the manufacturers job to make a pedal sound good, not mine!!
…. yeah, the wooden boxes are great, I’d like more… I’m always keeping an eye out for Big Muff in a crate!
melxMemberI dunno man, you’ll have to ask Eric mellowtone, but I think they are printed on some kind of transfer paper. (on a regular computer printer as far as I know)
melxMemberHa, that’s my ‘signature’ pedal that mellowtone made, we just did it for some fun a couple of years back..
he also made these.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nxMAp5J9MmA&feature=related
but no, other than that mellowtone is nothing to do with me… and yeah the wolf computer is one of his designs too.
melxMemberI could be wrong on this but almost, if not all vintage EHX units in the large cases like the Polychorus has internal transformers and they had a power cord that plugged straight into the mains, so it sounds like someone’s been doing some modifications to me…. best take some pics and see if we can see what’s going on.
and yeah 13779 means a CTS pot manufactured in 1979.
melxMemberIf the one you are using has the same specs then it won’t be a problem, the advice in the EHX instructions is to try and stop people damaging their pedals using an unsuitable power supply, you wouldn’t believe how many people just plug anything they have laying around into pedals and then wonder why they see smoke coming out of it and no sound!
It’s especially important to check with EHX gear because a lot of their pedals run on 18 and 24v … unlike say Boss where most of their pedals (if not all) can use the same 9v power supply.
…so yeah, don’t worry about it too much, but always check the specification of the power supply and the pedal you are plugging it into…. especially the voltage and polarity of the supply. Because if you do damage the pedal with the wrong power supply you won’t be covered on the warranty.
melxMemberQuote:god I kinda wish they would so I could arrange it [on the pedal board] to have the bypass switch in the ‘heel’ position. I don’t know whose brilliant idea it was to make it jump to max resonance upon turning on but every time I use one I get annoyed by that.funnily enough, that’s almost what I’m just about to do to my wah… although I’m just taking the switch out of it all together, drilling a hole in the side of the case and putting the switch in a separate little box to the side… so I can kick the wah on with the treadle any position I like. I use my wah more like a filter (with some subtle movement sometimes) not that wacka wacka stuff, so I think this will perfect.
melxMemberI haven’t used either of the amps in question but from experience I know pedals can sound very different going into different amps, so I’m not suprised it sounds different going from a solid state modelling amp to a small valve head.
I also think fuzz pedals usually sound much ‘fuzzier’ or ‘fizzier’ going into a solid state amp, I think valve amps tend to smooth them off slightly.
but saying all that, what you are describing sounds more dramatic than that…. although I’d be suprised if something is “is going on” with the Big Muff, more likely it just isn’t suited to the amp… unless it needs a new battery or something of course?
melxMemberhere you go
looks exactly what you are looking for… well maybe?
melxMemberQuote:I just bought one of these the other day after watching the pro guitar demo on youtube, looked really impressive for the cash so why not? well 1. the video did not show off the amazing amount of noise (white noise!) this pedal produces, 2. that there was a definate drop in volume. Is this ‘Pro Guitar Shop’ we are talking about here?
if so… never ever ever base a purchase on one of their ‘demos’ … they are just advertisments for the products they sell and they never point out any faults with anything and usually do their best to disguise any issues the pedal has. I hate the way they make them out to be some kind of ‘review’ when they aren’t anything of the sort.
back to the clone issue… there’s no need to “buy something else thats 10 times the price” The small clone is one of the best chorus pedals ever made (in my opinion) and isn’t noisy at all and not expensive either …. The other option if you want to stay small is get the new neo-clone, which I’ve been told (by someone I trust) that it’s good and sounds pretty much the same as the classic small clone.
