I’ve always used a wound 3rd string. :p
McHavenModeratorHere’s a mod for the old style Bass Micro Synth for true bypass. I assume it works just fine for the guitar synth as well.
This is a drawing another forum user at Talkbass made, and my pedal tech used it accordingly, however there’s a mistake we discovered.
Now, where it says “discard” on that brown wire, DON’T DO THAT! Instead, make that wire connect on the switch where the green wire is connected in the diagram. Then, discard the green wire.
This is just what he’s told me, I can get more detailed instructions if necessary. Basically just rewire the switch for how it is there, with those 2 wires switched up.
McHavenModeratorPulsar has the typical Boss-style barrel plug.
McHavenModeratorI burned the hell out of my bass plucking hand. Rock on.
McHavenModeratorEHX XO pedals (the smaller diecast pedals, like the Stereo Pulsar) are the following dimensions. First line is metric, 2nd is imperial, or whatever you call it.
Using this format:
[ W (mm) | D (mm) | H (mm) | HE (mm) ][ W (In.) | D (In.) | H (In.) | HE (In.) ]
Stereo Pulsar/Xo size effects:
[ 92 | 117 | 76 |
[ 3.6″ | 4.6″ | 3″ |The regular Small Clone is
[ 85 | 132 | 52 | 72 ]
[ 3 1/3″ | 5 1/8″ | | ]
McHavenModeratorQuote:This is an ongoing problem period! It has absolutely nothing to do with going through the front of a dirty amp or not! Besides these were meant to go before amps anyway and don’t particulary sound that much better in the effects loop section of an amp, let alone cancelling out any pops or clicks.EHX was started in the early days when effects were being used more and more. Ie: Jimi Hendrix, The Beatles, Deep Purple etc etc. A certain amount of noise was either acceptable or simply put up with back then, given the present state of technology at the time. These are not $200 to $300 high end boutique pedals. Maybe thats why they are not modified to eliminate noise like more expensive pedals.
The effects sounds with EHX pedals are awesome however and that is why they still sell. Some musicians probably use some noise cancelling device-which is more bullshit and another unnecessary pedal to have in a chain. EHX simply ought to upgrade their product range with moden electronics!
If you want to see how much quieter guitar technology has become in 40 years, go check out a video of Cream-era Clapton and his Wah pedal. He’s running it through his Marshalls of course, and it is the noisiest thing I have ever heard.

McHavenModeratorPedalboard rearrangement in progress. Waiting to get my micro synth back from the modder this weekend, repairing and rehousing my custom Muff, and added a Fuzzrocious delay. I’ve filled up a PT-Pro…and there’s still more pedals I want!
Also, anyone know how big a George L patch cable plug is? I’m trying to figure out if I can save space by going with those.
December 31, 2008 at 6:19 pm in reply to: Thinking of getting a new guitar… I have a bit of a dilemma #89896McHavenModeratorIf the guitar feels and sounds great to you, there shouldn’t be any other reason to not buy it. I’ve never had problems with my Gibson bass into my pedals. In fact, the awesome Gibson humbuckers kick my fuzz’s ass and make it sound even better. It may just be that Gibsons are typically higher output pickups than Fender’s pickups, and as such clip the pedals? I’m not the wisest when it comes to electronics though so take my ideas as such.
I think with your amps EQ, the pedal knobs, and your guitar, you can be sure to get anything to sound just as good as anything. If you’ve found a guitar that you love, don’t let something like this stop you, IMO
McHavenModeratorQuote:How much is the big muff pi with tone wicker? I looked on the Guitar Center website and they don’t have it on it yet.I wouldn’t ever expect it on there. My local GC still has no idea the Bass Big Muff exists.
McHavenModeratorI sent my micropog in and had it back in under 2 weeks…but I think they sent me someone else’s micropog, or a brand new one. I mean, mine had tons of facial scratches and a couple really identifiable marks. Unless they repainted the pedal, I got a replacement
McHavenModeratorThis is my old big muff
The Sustain knob is inside the case in that photo. Sine then I drilled a hole in it to mount the pot. However, I’m in the middle of rehousing it, since the fuzz face casing is so damn huge.
McHavenModeratorQuote:Quote:Your back simon? I thought you were going for a week? or has it been a week already?yup, it’s been a week….time flies eh?
And we were just starting to have fun!
McHavenModeratorI cannot recommend that anyone keeps the Nano Clone. The pedal has too many problems to even bothering fixing at its price point.
McHavenModeratorI had always heard that most of the XO series were now all TB. Is that not true? I just recently found out my Stereo Mistress isn’t true bypass. I thought the Stereo Polychorus was definitely TB…Hmm. I need to go check some things out!
McHavenModeratorQuote:Can the Steel Leather work for guitar, btw?I’m sure it can work for guitar, I just don’t know how well..
Travan, I don’t know which other countries in Asia have EHX effects, but I think maybe Japan does. Would it be possible to import it from there?
