i didn’t check to see how similar it was to the 12-string setting, but this is mainly for tremolo picking leads on higher frets
MattInVegasMemberway good to know, thanks
MattInVegasMemberGet it.
MattInVegasMemberI have a mere six, about to become seven, but I think I’m hooked for life. I first read about EHX and Mike Matthews as a kid in a Reader’s Digest article, but they were out of business when I became pedal aware (and my brother gave me an assortment of Boss pedals). Played direct into a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for more than a decade until playing live required a big muff. Now I have no curiosity about any other brand.
Big Muff Pi >> Freeze >> HOG >> Small Stone >> Deluxe Memory Man (current casing) >> 2880
Soul Preacher is on the way, been looking at a Black Finger, and looked at a Voice Box for the first time yesterday, which is how it always starts. I’m pretty satiated though, and not too intrigued by the Superego. Digging the looks of the new wah, and happy I got the HOG and 2880 before they were discontinued. Will get likely the next generation of those pedals before anything else.
MattInVegasMemberOnly 149 items?
MattInVegasMemberOK, Hammond Heaven now looks like this:
Big Muff >> Freeze >> HOG >> DMM >> Small Stone
I added the dry signal to the HOG and got a great Jon Lord Deep Purple sound, although it sounds better with the BigMuff and DMM off when you add the dry.
MattInVegasMemberIs 2 MB the limit, or was that how much memory a CF card could when the 2880 was introduced. Picked up a few on ebay
MattInVegasMemberI was a little puzzled when I ordered both the HOG and 2880 over the phone from Guitar Center (Feb and April, respectively), and I’m pretty sure they said “yes, we still have one in stock.” Makes sense now.
They were never in the physical inventories of the Guitar Center closest to me, but I always assumed it was a price issue. I hope GC carries the new versions. They’re the only official EHX dealer here. Took a lot of online demo watching to decide to purchase.
When I got the 2880, it came with five boxes of Dean Markley Helix HD strings. Didn’t even notice at first; I was too busy to dig into the new pedal properly so I set it aside. Thought they must be flashcards, which brings up a question: The 2880 came with one flashcard. Can anyone recommend the best backup currently on the market? Been Mac for life and never had to deal with them before. For all I know flash cards are about to be obsolete, and the last reference I see for one in the Forums is 2009. Looks like a few owners needed replacements shortly after purchase.
MattInVegasMemberFor real? Picked one up in February. Glad I didn’t miss out.
MattInVegasMember“Vintage”
I’m having trouble with the quantize feature, but taking it real alow, I can make a good manual live guitar loop. The trick for me was the same I used to adapt to the Boss — hitting the record/overdub with kind of an exaggerated foot stomp and down stroke (for the chord at the beginning of the loop), both done in sync, The soft pedals are definitely more ergonomic, but I like the 2880’s interface better than the compeition’s button-laden digital plastic plank equivalents.
MattInVegasMemberI just graduated to a 2880, but I’m keeping my Boss RC-120 XL specifically for uses like you just described. They are discontinued, although still in stores (and cheap on ebay), but I found it real easy to lay down a good verse-chorus loop with the Boss. I read complaints about the new RC-30’s looping, and read similar complaints that looping is not a strong feature on SMMWH. The 2880 is embedded in my set-up, tho, and the RC-20 is on-the-go ready, so its the best of both worlds.
I think I’m just on a learning curve with the 2880, but I have a feeling that EHX is about to put out two loopers to replace the 2880 — one smaller and self contained and one with all the works. There is a market niche to fill, so I don’t see why they wouldn’t.
MattInVegasMemberYeah, I agree on overdue. I mean, I like this, but I think having a separate foot switch is a barrier for most people. Hope they keep the dials and slidebars, but the flash card can go.
MattInVegasMemberReally? Yeah, I checked 2012 NAMM news and was surprised to see no sign of a new looper. I can guess what they would update, but I had my first real learning curve session last night and I don’t foresee any regrets.
I bought a Boss RC-20 Loop Station the year before they introduced the RC-30. The 2880 pretty much replaced the RC-20 with my main set-up, but I will still be using it for acoustic sets. I didn’t like the changes Boss made, and the earlier version loops more accurately from what I read in reviews. So no matter what comes next I imagine the 2880 will be remembered fondly for some function or feature that got dropped or re-imagined.
MattInVegasMemberI used I big muff (with the tone set from 9 to noon) before the HOG and a DMM set to chorus after and got a great dirty tonewheel sound.
MattInVegasMemberyeah, actually. Why are both the 1100 ad 550 both 9v and the DMM 24v?
