I’ve built myself a Muff Fuzz clone with a voltage knob right around 5v it gets very gated and synthy, putting it before a distorted tube amp gives me an enormously fat gated sound, very inspiring!
I came onto it when I was experimenting with my EHX Muff Fuzz and a 5 volt power supply I had laying around.
I didn’t want to chop up my nice EHX pedal so I built a clone and included the voltage control and a SHO booster, with makes it even fatter
My dad played the bass in a Dixieland Jazzband, the amazing energy and atmosphere of their gigs gave me the bug. They had a cast of very lively characters. The guitarist, a gretsch playing, cadillac driving man by the name of Guido completely won me over to guitar. He was just the most amazingly nice and charismatic guy.. sadly he died this year, I’ll miss him even though I really barely knew him, all my music is in his name from then on.
Okay EHX, listen up and listen good!
My girlfriend is coming over to NYC the 25th of July, she had better be able to pick one up for me!!
ooorrr.. the nice approach:
Pleeeeaaaaase EHX can you release it before the 25th so my girlfriend can pick one up for me?
Pleeeaaaaaase don’t make me wait a year before I can get it here in the Netherlands for $50 more!?
I love you guys.. but you’re killing me.. you’re reaally killing me!
Now that I think about it, that’d be an amazing effect, because the ratio between the voices would be different at different points along the sweep.
Say you’ve got the +1 octave and +2 octave sliders up and you’re bending up from a 440A.
1 octave up is 880, 2 octaves up is 1760 hz.
So when you have the expression half-cocked, one voice would be at 660, which is close to an E. The other voice would be at C#.
So when you’d sweep up you’d sweep through a multitude or dissonant, consonant, and microtonal chords, and probably get some mean torn speaker type throbs in there too.
Yess!! Exactly the thing I was thinking of, it’d be like a squadron of jet planes flying through your speakers!
I kind of just want EH to make a Micro HOG- 4-5 sliders with a few different voices, and then all the expression modes. I think for the “freezer” having octave down would be a must for me.
I’d love that!
And with an EXP pedal jack which does whammy .. per voice! So say you have +1 octave and +3rd, it starts with both at 0 .. and slides them up like the whammy would when you pushdownthe EXP pedal.
Apart from that, I just want this nice and simple one I mocked up:
You need to put an expression mode button on there and dry out.
When you talk about the whammy, do you mean that it would pitch up from the original signal to whatever slider you have it set up, or it would just increase in volume? I guess this would be in addition to the step and octave bend modes, which simply bends every voice from the starting point.
Yeah I mean pitch bend up, not volume. But I mean instead of one voice, that several voices can bend at the same time, that could be an awesome effect .. or total mayhem
i can’t see this being only $130 if it releases. i mean, the micro POG is still pretty expensive and this is a HUGE step up in terms of features.
Hmm yeah you’re right, it’s a sad thing that!
But the insides might actually be quite similar, I don’t really know about the insides of the digital pedals, but without the EXP modes it would need a lot less processing power.. That would mean that it doesn’t have to be a lot more expensive, and as I said; there’s an enormous hole in the market there!
Only one detune slider, and a little push knob at each slider to assign the detune to it or not. So you could have detune on any number of sliders, giving you ultimate control.
The only downside is that the amount of detune would be the same for every slider, I wouldn’t care.
^ wow that looks very good. slap a detune slider on there and i’d be all over it haha.
Hmm I’ve allways thought detune was a bit useless, turn a chorus to minimum speed and you have the same.. but better But apart from that I think the -5th is useless,so that could be removed and substituted for a detune.
I think if they’d release this for a reasonable price (say.. $130 or something?) you wouldn’t be the only one all over it I’d think. There is a real hole in the market for affordable pitch-shifters. A hole that I’d like to see filled .. I can’t pay #400 for a HOG I’ll use twice per set.. it’s just not justifiable for me.

I think the old case definitly have some mojo that the old do not!
But I think EHX also listened to the public a little too blindly, THE great thing about the classic chassis is that the jacks are on top!!
This has been said before, but I don’t think people realise how stupid (no offence) it is to change that .. now they look like any regular guitar effect .. if they kept that aspect, it would have still been a unique-ish design with some of the old mojo.
Edit: And they’d be even more pedalboard friendly!!
As for delay I can give two recommendations: Eventide Timefactor and Boss DD-20, the Timefactor obviously has more possibilities, but the Boss is easyer to use. Especially live.. (and if you’re not going to use all the stuff in the Eventide it’s a bit of waste of money).
Nnw for the amp I have a new candidate: Laney! Go try a VH100r or a TT50/100 (combo or head) and be amazed!
I use a VC100 (older combo version of the VH100) and the clean and crunch is gorgious for funk, and very tweakeable to sound like your sound.. instead of just another Fender. Also you say Jimi type rock, the gain channel on the VH100 is just perfect for that type of stuff! Slap some EHX tubes in there and get your funk on!
(btw: I also play a lot of funk, my Laney + ’60s style relic strat .. instant peppers.. and tweakable to all era’s of peppers too! )
