I know this reply is late as hell, but the Ring Thing sounds absolutely amazing in the effects loop of my amp. I’ve had it for about a year and only just tried it in the loop (I guess I’ll have to buy a few more 6m leads…) and it sounds so much better I can’t even explain. Bass notes for any octave setting are much more crisp and clear… none of the settings seem muffled or ‘restricted’ in any way.
My enthusiasm comes from the fact that I play in a guitar/drums duo, so this kind of tone difference is extremely important to me.
Just try it out!L
LouisLouMemberExcellent, thanks very much for the reply!
LouisLouMemberI’m having pretty much the same issue. It basically just stopped working. The power supply has been finicky for months but then it started doing weird things like turning on without touching the footswitch, turning off without touching the footswitch, and working what seemed at random when actually pushing the footswitch.
The thing that scares me about the POG is it doesn’t seem easy to do a self-repair on… I opened it up and nothing seems obviously wrong, but I’m no circuit board guru.LouisLouMemberQuote:so does it effect the EQ/tone? I am confused….edit-while we are on the Double Muff topic, is there a way to replace the slider mode switch to a stomp switch? This would make the Double Muff so much more flexible in a live situation.
It seems to affect the tone slightly yes. I think only mids and highs. It’s subtle but noticeable, noticeable enough that I have actually found a position that I like, and keep it there.
You’re right, a stomp switch for the muff mode would make this pedal pretty perfect in my eyes. I have to admit, there’s something about this little pedal that I really love. Great sound, one thing which is annoying but also pretty cool is how much the sound changes depending on what type of amp you’re using.
Has anyone actually replaced the slider switch with a stomp switch? Would be cool to know how to do this, I know my effects, but know nothing about what makes them work or how to change things around inside…

LouisLouMemberAfter ages asking around, got an answer from a guy who knows what he’s talking about:
High-impedance (and put it anywhere).
He basically said that if you don’t know, get high-impedance, and if you’re using guitar and not something like keyboards, get high-impedance, as it will do the job. I tried to look at the original post he wrote to me because he explained very well, but harmony central has done something weird, and all the posts but mine have disappeared.
LouisLouMemberThanks very much man. I am now much less afraid of the battery.
LouisLouMemberOk thanks guys.
I went into the shop where they were selling it and they didn’t have the power supply, which i thought was a bit weird.
I guess I just don’t like to put my trust in batteries, but I’m guessing the battery life must be good then? Thanks.
LouisLouMemberYeah… well if it turns out that the Boss can’t do both at the same time, I’ll just have to look at cheaper alternatives for both uses. I mean, it would be a bit of a bummer to buy the Boss FV500 for €95, and then have to buy the Roland/Boss EV for €65…
Bloody prices. -
