Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:I always have the same gauge and tuning on the bottom two strings for that droning sonic youth-esque sound. I have one guitar tuned in DDDDAA ,its my favorite tuning! As for the tunings I created, i dont give them out cause I’m kinda secretive about how I do things musically. 😆
NOTE: you should always swap gauges when you use odd tunings to get the most out of your guitar, dont stick to a standard set, make your own sets. It takes me two or three sets or more to string one guitar. That’s one of the reasons I buy 24 packs at a time for 3 bucks each set from http://www.webstrings.com/ great strings!
Doing this also prevents some strings being too tight and some being too loose.
why don’t you buy single strings? or would that work out more expensive?
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:Quote:(knowing melx) some kind of distortion or fuzz i reckon.it’s gonna be a foxx tone machine. (you know me too well)
….been having problems with my dano french toast (dodgy switch, dodgy jacks), so I bought a ‘general guitar gadgets’ PCB and bought the parts over a few months, I got the last bits just before christmas. It’s a good way of getting something you can’t afford to buy in one go. I got some nice parts too…. panasonic and Xicon caps, carbon comp resistors, NOS original trannies, switchcraft jacks and all that snazzy jazz …. so it should be cool as and last a lifetime.
Mike Livesly is gonna build it for me….. that’s shortscale mike of ‘here’s a bit of back in black’ you tube demos fame.
lol, oh yeah and it’s having one of these

in one of these

lol, i figured why the hell not?
that sounds really cool – the colour changing LED especially!
Kevin DemuthMemberi hardly ever use a typical open tuning; quite often though i’ll just re-tune one or two strings from standard…
i have some songs in these tunings:
E A D G# B E
E A D G A E
E G D G B E-or-D
D A D G Bb E
.
or i’ll use an open tuning with a slight variation such as:
D A D F A E (i really like this one)
D A D F Bb D
(both deviations from open Dm)
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:Quote:just this…. which will be built in Januarywhat is it going to be?
(knowing melx) some kind of distortion or fuzz i reckon.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:…i thought getting a small pedalboard would help curb my addiction…..it isn’t working😆
cool board, with a nice range of cheap to not-so-cheap pedals. :thumb:
what’s the yellow/gold one on the left? it looks like a Z.Cat to me – delay/chorus?
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:…Gonkulator, purely because I thought the name was cool when I was a teenager and have wanted one since.
…
i like DOD pedals but i wouldn’t bother… it’ll just make you want a better distortion and a better ring modulator.

“The Vatican said the 25-year-old woman involved was mentally unstable and had been taken to hospital.”
…….I’m still thinking about that remark.
the same woman attempted it last year too… wearing exactly the same clothes!!!
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:Quote:First of all, thanks to everyone for the suggestions/advice. I’ve been checking out the various EH delay pedals, and some of the reviews of the Memory Man w/Hazarai say that it kills tone. Is that true? I’m still trying to decide which one to get – Memory Man, Memory Boy, Memory Toy, etc. I’m also thinking about waiting until the Deluxe Memory Boy comes out next month. Any thoughts?I’ve heard people say that about the Haz, but I’ve never noticed it myself. I use a lot of vintage pedals, so I don’t even take that stuff into consideration anymore. My solution is the Carl Martin Octaswitch. That saves me the hassle of worrying over signal degradation.
i’ve never noticed any tone issues with the Haz either.
the thing with the Hazarai is, if you’re using it as a mono-in/stereo-out, while the pedal is off it will be passively splitting your signal – that could explain why some people say it kills tone. maybe.
Kevin DemuthMemberit’s an Eight Bit Organism – one of the pedals he makes.
Kevin DemuthMemberhave a look on ebay for old early-80s chorus pedals; lots of them may have similarities to the Boss CE-1 or have a sound you like even more.
i’ve got quite a few inc. 2x Pearl CH-02, Guyatone PS-013 and PS-023, and a Rayder/Washburn stereo chorus… all are analogue and sound beautiful.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:smaller board than usual in preperation for gig friday. improv sets. dont need to rely on stereo spread or looping so much.lovely as always, tape. :thumb:
it’s just a shame the right hand side of the picture has been chopped off.
i can’t remember what the little green one is next to the Micro Pog though.
Kevin DemuthMemberthe Germanium OD can produce a lovely clean sound; a touch of compression with a ‘vintage’ sounding smoothness.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:That officially sparked my curiosity. What is that?it’s a 4ms Tremulus Phaseur.
have a look here for more crazy looking stuff.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:Quote:i don’t know if i’ve ever said this before, but you’re a GENIUS!No … and think ‘bodger’ is probably nearer to the word you are looking for.
i’m just checking in my dictionary…
yep. you were right.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:yeah, many ways around it like Kev said….. or if you had a cable with a ‘neutrik silent jack’ on the end you could just pull it out!! 😆i don’t know if i’ve ever said this before, but you’re a GENIUS!
Quote:Makes sense. I use a multi-effect in front of the vb, so I wasn’t carrying a tuner around. I suppose that’ll be the next logical step though.to be honest though,
i like the idea of you running back and forth to your amp, turning it up and down! :poke: 😆 -
