Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:just a quickie again about the +1 +2 octaves
mine dont work when just sliding them up, or at least to my ears they dont.
unless when i have either the lp filer slider up, or the detune up
is this a problem ? should they just work on there own or do i need to have the effects section on aswell ??
where do you have the filter slider? as long as it’s not all the way down (and certainly from half-way and up), you should be hearing a significant change when adjusting the upper octave sliders…
i find they’re very sensitive and small changes make a big difference.it sounds like there may be a problem.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:i will get used to it (once i work out how to quote people) and i’m sure it will improveit’s quite easy actually… it just takes two clicks instead of one.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:Quote:I really don’t get the outrage at all. It’s like a bunch of grannies in a retirement home complaining that their lunch buffet was changed. Totally embarrassing drama from a bunch of guys who spend way too much time on a computer.Do we not have lives beyond these forums?
Half the threads on the first page are people STILL moaning… it’s kinda funny. They hate it, but not enough to stop posting about how much they hate it.
like i said earlier, i quite like it now.
the main thing it’s still missing is a jump-to-first-unread-post feature, but i’m sure they’re working on it.Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:I saw it today and the user-review sections really sucks now. Not that I trust most of the opinions, but it was always usefull to read and fun with reviews from people that don’t know anything about sound..i don’t like the User Review section as it is now…
what i usually do, is find the pedal at EffectDatabase.com and then use the link to the HC review…
i have to admit though, that after first hating the new HC forums, i quite like it now!!!
it just took a little getting used to.
there are still some bugs in the system, but it’s getting better and they’re working on it all the time.Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:I can’t log in….. lol.it’s not worth the effort to be honest, Si.
Kevin DemuthMemberIt’s TERRIBLE!!! :freak:
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:dry: 7
-1 octave: 1.5
+1 octave: 6
Q: off
lp-filter: 9 [edited]
detune: 3.5
(the rest would be at 0)using those settings as a starting point, set it so your direct sound goes straight through (i.e. isn’t going through the effect section), then start lowering the filter – about halfway works for me…
that way, the octaves (the upper octave in particular) will sound more natural and the overall mix sounds more realistic.
of course, you’re never going to get a true 12-string guitar sound, as on a real 12-string the two highest strings are tuned in unison, not octaves.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:Whatr is that pedal with the knobs on the frontside?I should make a picture of my pedalboard soon! (well I don’t have a board at the moment, but I have pedals^^)
it’s an Award-Session JD10 (mk2.3) – an excellent and amazingly versatile preamp/overdrive/distortion with DI output and switchable speaker simulation.
http://www.award-session.com/jd10.htmlKevin DemuthMemberno EHX on the board today….
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:on the EHX Flanger page “We don’t know how John Lennon came up with the name Flanger but thankfully he did”I’d heard that the Beatles would use their fingers on the flange of the tape reel to modify the sound of a double track recording…
Is that right? Does it help with the John Lennon question?
i’m sure i read somewhere, that an engineer named Ken Townsend(?) at Abbey Road studios actually pioneered the effect… when John Lennon asked George Martin how the effect was produced, Martin gave him a nonsense answer; deliberately trying to confuse him but mentioning something about running the sound through a ‘flange’.
so then, whenever Lennon wanted that effect, he would ask for the ‘flanger’.Kevin DemuthMemberthe picture isn’t showing at the moment and i don’t know why…
Kevin DemuthMemberso, do you want something that is fairly low gain?
a Danelectro Transparent Overdrive should do the business; i prefer it to most of the higher-priced/boutique overdrives i’ve used.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:Quote:Quote:i’m also not sure about the compressor after the phaser. I’d put it the other way, but it’s just an opinion.some phasers i’ve used can create big volume boosts at the peak of their sweeps, others (like the Small Stone) have volume drops.
putting a compressor after it will help in both of these situations.ha, good thinking… my bad, i didn’t think about that
no problem; as i hinted at earlier, it all depends on the individual pedals… and there is no right or wrong.
Kevin DemuthMemberQuote:Quote:i like tremolo after delays – as it sounds ‘clearer’ that way; if you have tremolo going in to delay it can end up sounding really messy…
same thing with other modulation (chorus and flanger)…
but as your plan is to have two delays, i’d put all of your modulation (besides the PH-3) between the delays so you have lots of options.Hey Kevin, I LOVE the ‘2 delay’s with modulation in the middle’ idea !
Might have to pick up a Memory Toy and give it a try.
:thumb: i really recommend it.
