Is the CE-2 no good? I always figured that was similar in sound to the CE-1 but in a compact form…or am I totally wrong about that? (I’ve never actually used either!)
i’ve not used either… either, but a lot of people like the CE-2. just as a lot of people like some other Boss chorus pedals… and pedals from other brands…
and there are also lots of people that don’t like the Small Clone or Polychorus.
for us guitarists/effects-users it’s just great that there are so many choices out there.
I think you’ll find that to be true of any EHX/Boss comparison. Analog just sounds better than digital (this is a fact). That is also the reason why I will never (ever) purchase a single Boss product, when I could get a comparable (somewhat) EHX for the same or lower price.
sorry, but analogue being better than digital is an opinion not a fact; some people will agree, some people will not.
also, not all Boss pedals are digital, just as not all EHX pedals are analogue.
i know this is an EHX forum but i have no problem admitting that there are several Boss pedals which I like more than their EHX counterparts.
by saying you’ll never buy a Boss product you are ruling out many great/classic pedals for no real reason.
The Haz seems pretty cool (really cool even) but I like me some analog delay. That thing sounds like it would be fun just to mess around with, but I don’t think that someone as simple as myself could find an application for some of the more crazy features. I just like the simple, 3 knob delays. MXR Carbon Copy is the best analog for the price (it may be the only analog for the price).
when it was released, i watched the demo video and thought it looked/sounded really cool but was a bit ‘effect-y’ for me. i held off for ages until i eventually bought one last year.
the Haz has become a permanent fixture on my main board.
i’m not a big delay user – a Boss DM-3 is my main delay (also have an Akai Headrush and Guyatone 12-Bit) and i don’t often find uses for overly processed ‘effect-y’ sounds but i find the Haz to be a very inspirational pedal. i often record a little loop then build a song around it… the original loop may not end up in the song but it can push me in directions i wouldn’t normally go..
other times i record a loop, then reverse it, or pitch-shift it or whatever and go in another direction.
then there are the more usual delay and reverb sounds, modulation, the reverse ( ) and one of my favourite settings gives a cello-like ‘bowed’ effect.
what i’m trying to say is that, like yourself, i prefer simple pedals but the Haz is definitely worth checking out.
despite what other people say, i don’t find it that hard to use either. maybe i just clicked with it when other people take longer to get to grips with how the controls work in each mode.
for what it’s worth, i like that size/styling too… but it’s not going to happen now with the move to XO/Micro/Nano. there have been quite a lot of pedals in that size casing in the past though (not including the recent/current pedals: Double Muff, Holy Grail, Dr Q etc)…
Thank! And what about the boss LS-2 with daisy chain?
the honest answer is: i don’t know.
if you’re getting hum when using your Zoom power supply, then it’ll more than likely be the same if using the LS-2.
i’m pretty sure the 9v ‘output’ on the LS-2 (and TU-2) is just a power ‘thru’.
i’ve got a Germanium OD which IS noisy (either hums or makes a high-pitched whining sound) but ONLY when daisy-chained with certain other pedals…
i’m using a good power supply (it happens with my Diago and Johnny Shredfreak equivalent – both supplying 3000ma) even if only powering 6 pedals.
i get the hum when chained with my Sansamp pedal, and the whine when chained with my SMMw/Haz.
incidentally, the Sansamp and Haz don’t like sharing a power supply either.
so, i’d be slightly wary about using any power supply which doesn’t have isolated outlets. of course, the One-Spot may be fine. my Germ OD is happy enough sharing power with all of the other pedals i’ve tried it with – about 20 other pedals, both analogue and digital.
BTW, Billy Corgan didn’t use modded pedals, as far as the records show the Muffs in siamese dream are standard USA Big Muff PI’s…so I wouldn’t pay too much attention to the hype.
:thumb: the tones on Siamese Dream were combinations of effects; the Big Muff was just one tool that the Pumpkins used.
that’s not to say the Creamy Dreamer mod DOESN’T get close to the sounds on Siamese Dream.
also, i may be wrong, but i’m pretty sure the Creamy Dreamer wasn’t introduced until 1997 – Siamese Dream came out in 1993.
on one hand, it said it worked last time it was used (although we don’t know how long ago that was, or how the pedal has been stored) and the only issue mentioned is the missing battery connector.
from the picture it looks pretty good – it doesn’t look like it’s been thrown from any high buildings or anything or abused in any more conventional ways.
but then, for the person to sell it so cheaply would possibly cause me to be wary; either they know something they’re not letting on – even non-working pedals usually sell for more than that, OR they just didn’t know what it’s worth and wanted rid in a hurry.
i had the same problem (popping switch) with a Small Clone a couple of years ago (i’ve also had this occur with a couple of ’boutique’ pedals)… the resistor trick worked on that – except i used 2.2M resistors.
