julianModeratorQuote:is this freeze function only found on the hog? or are there stand alone freeze pedals out there? seems like money left on the table…
Only on the HOG AFAIK
June 28, 2009 at 8:12 am in reply to: Can anyone tell me more about this Line 6 Tonecore developers kit thing? #98536julianModeratorI kind of want to get one sometime. See what I could program and such.
julianModeratorQuote:this is a great discussion, i would love a freeze pedal — i use a freeze function in lloopp (max/msp) all the timeeffects loop and dry/wet mix knob are essential to making this a useful pedal (although, i would almost prefer an effect out + dry out over an effects loop)
when it comes to design, i would think even simpler…
three elements – bypass switch, simple stomp switch for engaging the freeze, dry/wet mix knob
if i were to add a forth it would be a filter (low/highpass) knob like that on the smmw/h
also the freeze should not be long at all – 500ms seems too long – wouldn’t the sound pulse too much at that time? besides you could do that kind of “freezing” with a short loop on a smmw/h – i do that kind of freezing quite a bit to build up drones. i set the delay time in loop mode all the way counter clockwise, engage the shortest loop possible, then raise the delay time to the max. even at this short of a time window, if i don’t fade volume in and out when creating the loop, its not an even drone, it will pulse with the loop length (as the volume/attack changed over the time of recording the loop)
We’re talking about the HOG’s freeze function though. 500ms is really short. The HOG you can freeze for as long as you want. Though being able to stomp a switch and get short freeze stutters would be sweet.
julianModeratorget one of these:

julianModeratorWell one signal just sends out your clean, one sends out your effected signal (which also includes clean if you have the dry slider up)
I did go into MS Paint and figured out how to wire up a switch box for it, but I still need to get a box and the parts.
julianModeratorQuote:Thanks julian. Will check out the SubDecay Prometheus this week, especially since their local to me (Oregon). Didn’t know they made a step filter. Unfortunately the reason the Boss has even come up is that I’ve been waiting (and WAITING…) for someone to make something like the ZVex SeekTrem, but with more control. And that Midi in w/ my 2880 as the clock is pretty tempting! That said, I need to find something (and I mean anything) with Midi tempo in to play with soon. I’m dying to see how that works out.
I will also check the Tone Wicker out this next week.
If I run into a used Polyphase or it comes up for a trade I’ll likely end up owning it at some point. For now I’m just using my Freq Analyzer and Bassballs to manually filter things. Oh and the filter on the SMM (which I would BUY if EHX would like to throw just that one knob into a Nano case!).
Regarding the HOG. I played with it the week it came out, and decided I wasn’t allowed to have it at the time. Mainly due to fear of it overtaking my sound, and being too easy to get ambient sounds out of. THEN I ended up with a POG thru a trade, which I couldn’t wait to get rid of, as everything I ran thru it came out sounding like a Casio SK-1 on the Organ setting. Which is a sound I like, but I just couldn’t handle that much of. But I will not give up in my nagging for THE FREEZER ; )
(eh, got sidetracked… So the HOG does sound very similar to the POG in it’s output correct? It just has heaps more control? The voices do sound similar, but you’ve got loads more control, and combining them with other effects and the filters you can fine tune them a little. Plus you might like the spectral gate. It sort of tones them down a bit.
julianModeratorA lot of them are his own creations:
Check out his blog:
http://soniccrayon.blogspot.com/julianModeratorI’ve got all three of the XO ones. I could have my friend Rick (who’s a far better bassist than I am) come over and I could have him demo them. I don’t know if I could do video though.
julianModeratorNo auto-tune on the EHX.
If you think you need auto-tune, you just need to practice more!
Although now that I think of it, it would be kind of neat to have it have simultaneously on-key and off-key vocals.
julianModeratorThe important thing here is polarity- the adapter, the univibe, and the flanger hoax all need to be the same polarity. If so, I think using your standard pedal daisy chain would be perfectly fine.
As for voltage, the voltage in a parallel circuit is constant. The variable is the current. Which is fine.
See here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Series_and_parallel_circuits#Parallel_circuits
julianModeratorOh, I’m wrong, Carbon Copy is 600 ms. My bad.
I don’t think an analog delay really needs 600 ms myself. Half second delays (550ms) are way too long for me in the first place.
julianModeratorI don’t think the Carbon Copy has 600 seconds of delay.
julianModeratorPGS Demo:
julianModeratorProbably a faulty switch.
julianModeratorQuote:nice!!!! thats not a bad thing b/c im only running the POG right now on one song and its a dirty part with the effect…so im stoked..and specially with the 8 settings i can start using it on different songs maybe thanks tons! The solution to this would be to get a DOD-250 or similar and put it in front of the POG2.
