The SMMH does not have its own adjustable preamp so you will need some way to get the mic level signal up to an instrument level signal. Most cheap $99 mic preamps with 1/4″ outputs will suffice.

jpleongMemberBasically, a buffered output lowers the impedance level of the signal allowing you to run longer lengths of cable to avoid signal loss. Some buffer designs are better than others. Also, buffers are most often found at the very front of the signal chain. Usually, you only need one and most “stack” fine but some buffers don’t.
Read this:
http://www.tech21nyc.com/technotes/index.htmlRegarding your situation, the question of buffer vs not seems moot. You may be interested in this product by Barber Electronics http://www.barberelectronics.com/LaunchPad.htm which allows you to split a signal and adjust for phase.

jpleongMemberWhat happens when you use the PDI-03 and pass-through to the Marshall cab?

jpleongMemberWhere did you purchase it from? Some retailers offer a “double warranty.” it’s worth the effort to check and see if you had your warranty doubled.
Other than that, the current-generation Big Muff Pi is, indeed, true bypass and doesn’t need a conversion (if that’s the question you’re asking?).

jpleongMemberQuote:If you ever get into a lot of effects you can use it to compensate for the loss of signal. That’s what I use mine for now. I actually did the same thing you did when I first bought mine. I had a Line 6 ss amp. I figured a little extra dirt in my sound would be cool. Turns out it doesn’t work that way.The Line6 amps are digital solid state. You were overloading/distorting the converter which is why it didn’t sound good.
Pushing an analog solid state amp can sound pretty good. No different a concept to boosting into an overdrive, distortion, or fuzz to get “more.”

jpleongMemberOuch. The Radio Shack power supplies are not regulated… You may have fried the pedal. And, yes, it was supposed to come with an adapter.
Try returning it, that’s the best you can do…

jpleongMemberMy only suggestion is to put the Neo Clone first. It has such low headroom that it distorts (badly) quite easily. I could imagine the Pulsar throbbing it into overload.

jpleongMemberI don’t think so, unless you just want something different. It’d be more of a cross-grade. Definitely a different feel than the CS-3 but they’re both pretty noisy. If you want “better” you should look into an Empress or Barber comp or, maybe, BYOC.

jpleongMemberThe Germanium Big Muff is, indeed, negative tipped.
See power indicator in picture below:
I have mine chained with most of my other pedals and powered by a 1Spot.

Using this particular setup as the foundation, do you have any suggestions for getting a grittier, over-driven Wurlitzer sound? I’m thinking specifically of the Wurli sounds sprinkled throughout the new Norah Jones album.
Thanks,
JPjpleongMemberI’d like to see a different preset system like that on the POG2. The SMMH has way too many possible sounds for the small amount of presets it has.
