i had nice experiences using the roland fv500L with the HOG; as well, the M-Audio or Moog expression pedals should work fine.

it sounds completely different running it before or after distortion. running it after gives you a smoother sound that alot of people seem to prefer – difficult to describe, but you’ll know it when you hear it. running it into distortion gives you that super gnarly deeppurple-type hammond grind; you know that nasty fuzzy mess in the white stripes’ blue orchid? that’s the sound you get running the pog2 before distortion. it’s my preferred tone, but try it both ways to see which sound you like better.

other than that, i would run it before the volume pedal. actually i would run it before everything except for a tuner (and maybe a phaser).

run it in front of a low to medium gain distortion pedal (tube screamer, MXR distortion III, english muff’n, etc) or get a light distortion happening on yr. amp – then use the muff fuzz as a boost for a rad fuzzy dirt tone. it’s really quite amazing how nice of a sound you can get this way; the muff imparts this strange warmth that seems to cling to every note, especially with lower output pickups. roll off your treble a little bit.

firstly: how are you powering them? if you have everything daisychained, that is likely your problem. give the pog2 its own power supply, that should fix the issue, and if you can, run the muff off of batteries – less line noise that way.

if you’re powering everything separately, try putting the big muff before the tuner – the buffer may be causing issues down the line, fuzz pedals usually work best if you put them immediately after your guitar. if the tuner is true bypass then you may have to put the pog2 in front of the LBM and try that.

they’ll be around a while, most likely. i personally know of two shops here in town that have had the same russian muff on the shelf since the bass big muff came out – people want the reliable switching, the direct signal blend, and the smaller casing.

i still see NOS sheet metal small stones around, in the wooden box no less, so i am guessing you have at LEAST a few months before you have to resort to ebay to get your hands on a soviet big muff.

+1 on wire, and also, the cramps – even though they sort of fall under psychobilly which is a pretty distinct subgenre…

i wouldnt say i hate the record, i’m just not a fan of the new ‘arena rock’ green day. too many of the tracks remind me of u2, which i find to be a bad thing, although had the record sounded like dookie pt.2 i would have liked it even less. at least they’re trying new things and moving forward rather than stagnating (like bad religion and the vandals, as much as it pains me to say it).

my favorite green day record was nimrod just because they threw a billion ideas at the wall and saw which ones stuck – it was their white album, basically, and i love that style of recordmaking. so in summation: even though i dont like the new direction green day has taken, i still respect them for progressing and moving forward. and i also hope that the next record is different from anything they have ever done before.

well they’re brothers in a sense though – same last name aside, they emerged out of the same scene at relatively the same time (operation ivy and green day were labelmates in the late ’80s and both were pretty prominent in the gilman st. scene).

they rose to fame at AROUND the same time – if i recall properly, dookie was released around 1994 and i believe out come the wolves was released 1995? i can’t be certain because i dont much care for rancid and i dont want to look it up, but basically BJ’s and tim’s bands are connected even if they’re not actually brothers. hopefully i didnt get any facts wrong, i didnt bother to look anything up this morning. also i am still a huge green day fan even though they totally lost me with 21st century breakdown – i tried but i just cant get into it!

i think that if anyone deserves to speak on the state of mainstream punk right now, it is fat mike and joe queer. nofx and the queers are among the few bands who have recognized that they are aging, and that they are well past their creative peak. they’re just trying to put out decent records because that’s all they have ever tried to do – basically, doing the whole pop-punk thing because they love it. it’s confusing to me, but the two bands have found a way to age gracefully without ever growing up. in my opinion of course… i have some nostalgic ties to pop-punk bands that were famous in the ’90s.

yeah, im 99% sure it’s just an output volume knob.

the only reason im not 100% sure is because i haven’t played one yet, but like on the newer true bypass dmm it’s there so you can either get unity gain, drop volume a bit to clean up a dirty amp or get a boost for solos/louder bits. the older dmm’s gain knob actually controlled output volume when the effect was disengaged as well, so you always had unity gain.

fwiw, i’ve had an 80gb ipod classic for two years and it’s never bothered me when new ones come out.

brilliant – we finally have an onboard rate knob! not that the modulation presets were problematic on the DMM, but it sure is neat that we’ll have full control. unless it’s a two position switch disguised as a pot.
