I heard earlier this morning…the more I thought about it the more of an impact it is making on me. Jimmy Page, yeah cherry burst, he played one, Frampton, wow 3 pick up Black Beauty, Ace Frehley, cherry sunburst, that was him too. The cover of Boston’s first album. I could go on and on and on. His impact is magnificent. Nearly all the axe slingers that I stared at on countless album covers and liner notes as a kid…it doesn’t even matter what genre I developed into…there will never be any denying that lasting image of the single cutaway…one of the main things I always drooled over was and now is his legacy…This doesn’t even touch upon multi-track recording…WOW!!

JPJaypeeMemberI also downloaded the instruction manual pdf format from the website and printed it out. Then I took white out and colored in the pointers on the knobs on the suggested setting page so they were all “blank”. Then I ran off a number of copies at work…I know…misappropriating company resources again….then used them to scribble in settings I stumble upon while experimenting with the Tube Zipper. Works pretty well
JaypeeMemberDitto…My Tube Zipper’s Drive knob is tight…as I tell my customer’s in the Harley industry…it may be a characteristic and if there is no malfunction, then there’s nothing abnormal.
Makes me feel better at least.

The POG appeals to me just because of the “classic” big box…but everytime I hear something so creative and nicely done like that it pulls me toward the HOG.
JaypeeMemberDon’t forget the Tube Zipper
That can be an outrageously funky box. Tube drive and a powerful and tweakable envelope filter section as well.
JaypeeMemberIt’s not on the side looking at you when you pull the bottom cover off. It’s on the other side. You just have to be VERY careful with the wiring when you remove it.
JaypeeMemberConklin?
No. No. Ibanez perhaps.
There’s a decent body shot on the EHX home page. It’s hanging on the wall in the background. Still no headstock shot tho.
JaypeeMemberMcHaven,
That is beautiful!!! What is red pedal with the scythe and hammer? And is that and the Walking Delay pedal BYOCs?
I need to rebuild my board and take a new photo with the new additions.
JaypeeMemberI learned with my Tube Zipper that, for me, there were “no user serviceable parts” inside–aside from the obvious trying a new power supply or wiggling the tubes. And upon looking inside it just intimidated me. I shot an email to info@ehx.com and set up a return for repairs. Mine was out of warranty anyway so I had to pay a small fee. Chip was extremely helpful. So now I got it back and it sounds incredible. For something like that, I feel there is nothing like sending it to the folks that made it, if you’re after a stock application.
JaypeeMemberSince I play bass I usually put effects in order so it doesn’t mess with the bottom end.
My Doctor Q or Bassballs usually goes first cause it seems they like unmolested signal to respond well.
Then as follows OC-2 — Bass Micro Synth — (maybe)Tube Zipper — Compressor — Bass Big Muff — EQ — Phase 90 — Chorus (CE-2 or Polychorus)– DMM — Worm — Holy Grail
Any other bass ideas are gladly welcomed.
JaypeeMemberBoss CE-2 has a trimpot in it also. Adjusts the “intensity” of the effect. Sounds more like a wet/dry mix trimpot. I’ve got mine full cranked to the “wet” position. Full Counter Clockwise is a dry uneffected sound and full Clockwise is wet. But not like full Clockwise wet on a Holy Grail external Knob, just thoroughly choroused.
JaypeeMemberAmpeg BA-210SP
The digital onboard effects on it sound like I would not ever want to use them at all.(And I don’t) It’s like a yucky digital multi effects unit. Poopoo platter!!
The amp by itself sounds great.
Why would I want to use the onboard effects when I have my EHX lovelies?
JaypeeMemberAnd I was set on a Big Box POG….Now I might have to scrap that idea. That looks absolutely wonderful. I could make all kinds of fabulous sounds with that indeed!
JaypeeMemberWell, I did try that first, then I opened her up and it looked nothing at all like my other pedals. Ok I just got intimidated and sent her in and I must say Chip did an amazing job on it. It did end up with new tubes but even more the sounds I can get out of it now are fantastic literally. Thanks for the tip though.
JaypeeMemberQuote:Sovtek one sounds just the same as the NY, IMO. I got lucky and got one for 13 bucks.I picked up an early 80″s nyc with a broken shaft for 10.00 bucks. Canabalized a shaft put her back together and it sounds fabulous. Funny how it’s now one of my favorites…
If the Russian Bassballs sounds ANYTHING like it I’d jump all over it.
