That’s a simple answer. If that’s the sound that you want, then you need to use a “distortion” pedal not an “overdrive” pedal, which the Hot Tubes is an Overdrive. Overdrive uses or rather pushes the amp’s tubes to naturally achieve a warm, punchy “broken up” tone. It’s an organic approach to distortion, for lack of a better way to say it. A distortion pedal creates it’s “crunchiness” by the use of circuits and the like. That’s how you get that almost industrial sounding crunch. In the future when you look for new pedals you and your style would probably be better suited in sticking with “distortion” type pedals, not overdrive.
