So, listened to the vids you posted, melx, Swervedriver are pretty sexy (musically, of course), Sugar – couldn’t hear the vocals well enough, so that spoiled it for me, I guess, Love Battery and Eric’s Trip were also pretty awesome. And the other two videos aren’t allowed for playback in my country, or so YouTube says.
I have that video downloaded to my laptop and actually watch it from time to time!
I’ve got a lot of respect for the technicality and the vocals, despite the music itself being barely amusing and listenable.
And still, despite all the gory lyrics and grunts of CC, Meshuggah are zillions of times heavier.
Yeah, well, having EHX stuff is already a reason to be respected, at least in the musicians community – so you for sure get my respect. And for being twice and half older than me you get even more respect
I’m always in awe of the Might-Ol’-Chris-Barnes-Beard-and-Hair: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ChrisBarnesWOA2006.jpg
Speaking of which, Cannibal Corpses “Tomb Of The Mutilated” is one of the funniest albums ever made – super-uber-scooped tones, subsonic grunts and double-kicks faster than a mosquitos wings
Tom Waits is great….he’s actually quite a recent discovery for me, I have friends that have been banging on about him for years but I didn’t really appreciate him until a year or so ago….but I will have to listen to more of his albums, I only have ‘Real Gone’
lol, that ‘man man’ is flippin nuts!! I kind of like it though, reminds me a little of the dresden dolls crossed with blood brothers….or something wierd like that!
OMG…Earth! lol, no not a fan at all, I have a song of there’s on an old sub/pop VHS called “Ouroboros is broken’ it’s the most god awful thing on the video, but there is a woman riding a horse topless in the video which makes it almost watchable…..but saying all this I quite like the track you posted so maybe I should check out more? The video I have is 1993, so maybe I should check out some later stuff, what do you think/recommend??
I’ve never heard that ozzy/primus thing, cheers!! I do quite like primus though….and porno for pyro’s, janes addiction… never been a chilli peppers fan though.
Haggard….lol, well 10/10 for something I’ve never heard before!! I can’t really see myself listening to this if i’m honest.
….I just listened to it all the way through, I was quite digging it until the ‘satan’ voice, I wasn’t digging that at all, but a nice contrast to the ladies voice all the same…I don’t like the double kick drums either!!!! LOL!
it was fun to hear some totally different stuff though, cheers!

Haha, 39 Do you have a big, manly beard?
Tom Waits is great, and there are very cool bootlegs of his live stuff – like the July 2008 in Atlanta, Georgia – it’s a two-something-hour set, and it sounds awesome. Just cannot recommend the man enough, even his very early stuff is nice-sounding.
And his first album (Closing Time) is the greatest thing to cure a hangover, lol
Man Man play what is called “Dark Cabaret”, so The Dresden Dolls, Tiger Lilies, Pretty Balanced all fit there. Actually, try to find Pretty Balanced – Icicle Bicycle, it’s a moody mixture of funny and more serious songs.
Dunno anything about Earth, I just have a few random songs (including the one I gave you the link to), all of which I found on YouTube.
Primus sucks!
And Haggard sounds very cool sometimes – considering it’s not synths and keyboards, but real classical instruments.
I’ll check out your links and perhaps will post something more tomorrow. Thanks!
And as for Waits, I can’t say that I can distinguish my favourite record among his stuff – it’s just so varying. Mule Variations holds a special place, since it’s his first record I heard.
iTunes radio is cool sometimes. Then there’s Bee.fm (it’s only in Russian, I think) – you just download a playlist of an artist and listen to his random songs. Thanks to bee.fm, I found out about Paracoccidioidomicosisproctitissarcomucosis
And I want to check out the BBC Radio Freak Zone now…
actually the last band I saw that I thought were really great were ‘pendulum’ I went with a mate because he bought me a ticket…and they were really great.
although it’s nothing like what I usually listen to, they were exciting and I really like what they are doing with electronic stuff….they actually gave me that ‘hairs standing on end’ thing that I rarley get anymore….they actually looked like they were having fun too!!
….like Scott said about the Jazz thing, I think I really need to find a whole new genre to listen to, all the best punk bands have been and gone, same for Alt. rock, indie and whatever, I can’t see anyone is doing anything that hasn’t been done before in those areas, I’m craving something new and exciting.
although, I’m kind of at a point where I don’t think there is much left to discover….which is kind of sad, whenever I start a ‘recommend me some music’ thread it’s almost 100% stuff I listen to already or don’t like much.
The world is big! As for me, I actually finally managed to find a niche within Jazz that I like. I’ve periodically tried to like Jazz several times over the years, but nothing ever clicked. But apparently, I really like free/avant-garde from the ’60s, such as Albert Ayler, Pharaoh Saunders, Rahsaan Roland Kirk, Ornette Coleman, etc.
So keep looking & listening!
Miles Davis – ‘Round about Midnight. For me it’s perhaps one of the best jazz albums ever.
P.S. That’s what I like Last.fm for, since it gives lists of artists similar to the one you’re listening to right now. Some interesting stuff pops up frequently.
Dunno about YouTube – when Death Magnetic came out, I decided to give “All Nightmare Long” a listen, since everyone was praising the song, and though it was mediocre crap. Then I bought the CD and it turned out to be great.
We have a big Russian illegal site, plus there’s Demonoid. I know it’s not nice, but we don’t have good CDs in shops – just a cover and the CD, no lyrics, nothing, and I buy lotsa CDs when I go abroad.
Last year, when I was in Finland, I bought “Zeitgeist”, only to see the deluxe edition (the one with the 70-page booklet) in a shop nearby. Had to buy it too.
But in fact, I buy/download new music maybe five or six times a year, I usually have enough stuff to keep excited. Dark Cabaret bands are awesome, btw
Also, I enjoy listening to NIN when I’m writing or trying to relax – may seem strange, but it works.
1. Big Muff Pi
2. Micro QTron (just put it on Lo-Pass, set my amp for a slight overdrive and do some funkin’ rawk!)
3. Metal Muff (it’s not technically mine, I’m just borrowing it) – I don’t play metal a lot, but it’s fun sometimes. It was a bit intimidating to figure it out though – had to adjust the eq on it and on my amp simultaneously, so it took me some time.
I might do a short demo tomorrow.
