I ALMOST picked up a used Hoax today for $125, but just couldn’t do it. As I had one on loan for a few months and could find no use for it. An exhaustive demo, especially of the phasing/filtering capabilities would be rad.
ghostMemberAh what to do……
Just picked up the Furman today after NEVER having a pedal board. I run a stereo setup – using the two LS-2s as a small mixer essentially.
You can hear some sounds I make Here.
It’s all live – one dude, guitar, mic, voice, small percussion, pedals – no overdubs – just a lot of layering and a big stereo PA.
PS – that’s a PS3, RV3, (and yes…that IS a..) Stereo Memory Man w/ H, Green Sov Muff and Stone below….
Not pictured: Holy Grail (original one), French Toast, 3 PDS delays, Mod FX units ah a bunch of other crap I have around for fun…
The only things I’m torn on is keep the DD-20 on there? Or.. put the DMM on?
Also need to check out the Bassballs for filtering at some point, although I think the envelope will kill my want/need for it). AND some sort of sequenced tremolo effect like that of a ZVEX seek-Trem or the Boss Slicer (slicers not happening, although the midi sync to the 2880 is mighty tempting…
The DMM is not that important for Live stuff so it can stay off… The 2880 foot controller I’m going to keep off there so I can use it on the floor if I decide to put the board on a table some time. I NEED to fit some distortion on here, and I really prefer my Muff – maybe I’ll have to check out the newer XO muffs… I had a LBM – sold it as I thought the range was a little flimsy.
Open to ideas.
ghostMemberghostMemberQuote:well I guess it’s pretty expensive. Also can someone recomend a good power surpply?Called it. Digitech + Multi! No offense folks, but judging by the music JJ13 listed in his first post this actually seems like the right choice. Digitech is marketing and sculpting their gear to fit a specific sound that no one else really is.. Not my sound or a sound I care to obtain, but they have the New Metal, etc… genre covered.
BUT that said: JJ13 – there’s a lot to be said for just picking out 1 or 2 effects to start off with. And learning them well. A multi effect can, without restraint (and a LOT of time dialing it in), create a huge mess – bad tone, awful sounds, waisted time playing with things like “Filter twist flange uber fuzz” and such.
My honest advice is get a nice (Mesa Boogie – not my choice amp, but what nails this sound) amp and ONE distortion pedal you like. Then spend time writing songs until you figure out what you really wish you had in there. Be it Chorus, Flange, Reverb, etc..
Anyways……. Digitech RP series can be great. I still have an ancient one, that I picked up at Goodwill, (RP-40 or 50?) that I bust out for pitch and reverb presets I have stored on it.
ghostMemberWhat is Mode 4 on the PS-2? Are you thinking of the famous Mode 7 on the PS-3? Mode 4 on a PS-2 is just pitch shifting or 500 ms of delay right?
If you’re thinking of the inverse pitch shifting delays… Check this guy out:
http://www.empresseffects.com/superdelay.php
Actually very similar to the SMMw/H in a lot of ways!? But it has the infamous Mode 7 sound built right in there…
ghostMemberIt’s got built in Crescendos!
ghostMemberI run my guitar in 1 and a Shure mic into 2 – works great. Lack of XLR not a biggy, and the sound quality of the 2880 is FAR supirior to the RC-50 (I’ve owned/own both).
ghostMemberAny thoughts (or better yet, anybody here…) Midi sync a 2880 and a Boss SL-20 Slicer?
I’m thinking this is something I need to do in the near future.
ghostMemberthat’s tempting… not a huge worry of mine, but if I get board I’ll keep in mind that I can flip mine! Thanks.
ghostMemberHmmmmm….
Stereo Memory Blogger w/ Hazarai?!
ghostMemberMode 7 on a PS3 is actually pitch shifting your sound, reversing it, and running it all thru a very short delay w/ feedback control.
I don’t think this is going to be happening on the Pog 2.
ghostMemberI’d focus on a solid amp based on the music you’ve mentioned.
Messa Boogie is what most of the bands you’ve mentioned use for amps.
As for effects I think they mostly use digital multi effects – maybe a whammy or two in there as well.
I’d play with different distortions: muffs, old ibanez boxes, digitech (they seem to focus on music of these type of bands), etc..
I’d also maybe (I can’t stand ’em, but who knows) check out one of the newer boss multi floor units with the exp/vol pedal and assignable effects.
ghostMemberI would like to add a momentary switch for freeze hold, functioning much like a Boss Feedbacker.
ghostMemberAH! Can I just get a stereo Power Amp version!?
ghostMemberCan anyone confirm that that little power amp is going to be like a little 22 watt solid state power amp – just add extension speaker? Is that loud? How many watts is a little smokey?
Can I get two 100 watt dudes? So I can make a portable stereo PA? Thanks!
