Curious If anyone is using the 2880 as a long delay line? Or four for that matter….. The feedback controls boggle my mind really. Don’t get how one is meant to adjust feedback volume w/o sacrificing track volume…. The 2880 is RAD though – I’m just now getting into the USB part of things. Saving loops sets in folders, putting them back on is a total trip. Also playing live shows and getting home and listening to the final four loops in sync is a blast. And on top of that it’s stepped my expectancy for sound quality up a ton.

I haven’t owned a Slicer or a Murf, but honestly, I’d say go for the Murf. Also check out the SubDecay Prometheus, Antenna Gyroscope, and the Zvex Seek-wah and Seek trem.

I’ve got a Goatkeeper on it’s way, seemed to be what I needed. Still the Prometheus is pretty cool.

regarding the Memory Boy being 600ms

OK now I’m dying to see/hear this thing!? If it’s got a longer delay time, and has modulation onboard… WHY would the XO the DMM!? I’m confused.

Eh, I suppose the DMM will always have the gain, and more control options, but seems like strange timing…

I will mess around a bit more with my SMMw/H (which regardless is my FAVORITE delay/looper to date). And it really is just the sound quality, with the Boss unit. It’s fine for live use, but studio use – each pass builds up more and more layer of ultra high end hiss. This realistically can be fixed with an EQ – which is something I haven’t tried.

I was kind of just curious what other options there were out there. I’m not going to get rid of the DD-20 regardless, I have too much of a past with it, and know it WAY too well. The Hazarai has just knocked it off my board for now, and I was wondering before putting it back on if there was something out there that could do what I needed.

With the delay set to FULL on the DD-20 you can essentially layer loops forever and they don’t fade at all. The loop time is just too long to feedback on itself. Does that make sense?

If there’s a setting on the Hazarai that can do this please inform me, I haven’t found it yet. All the settings I have saved all either feedback or fade over time. I think it might just be a matter of having a reallly long delay time, so the feedback adjustment is less important. I kind remember that about the DD-5 actually that it would ride the line of holding delays for a long time w/o feeding back onto itself.

The DD-20 I would literally just sit there for a 20 minute long live set and play into the delay, slowaly building yextures, and if I wanted I could pull off the feedback a bit and it’d fade the previous layers out. But those units could go for hours before the sound got too mangled. The only issue, and it’s a big one for me, is the sound quality. They just have too much line noise, hiss, and mudd to them.

The other thing that was great about that unit was that the clocks between units were dead on. You could sync two of them and they’d stay in sync forever, just off the clock.

Supposedly to be released in July: EHX V256 – Vocoder with Reflex Tune (<--- the thing I'm guessing is auto-tune like).

Guess I’ll finally cast my vote on this…

I’m voting XO. Sadly they do make ehx look like a lot of other pedals, whereas they really stood out before. But they just make more sense space wise, and the inclusion of a more universal power supply socket is very welcome.

Looks, feel, and collectibility I’d say the old enclosures RULE. But the new Hammond enclosures are just much more user friendly in both space and function. And as of the Pog 2, EHX seem to be finding their way into making these hammond cases STILL look unique!

I actually would have NEVER purchased a Frequency Analyzer or a Bassballs, until the XO/Nano series came out. It just didn’t make sense space wise. Now I own both of them, and love them.

This will get you 2/5 the way there…

Or a little more useful: these guys have ’em.

    Or try Smallbear.

Weird. I’ve always thought it was just EHX using up the 4 knob enclosures. But if you look at it, they’ve pushed the word Man over to make room for the 5th knob, and it clearly says E/C/Vibrato. Probably just using up the ink then – who knows.. (probably EHX Man)

I only played with this for a little while, but I don’t think it is very forgiving or adjusts for off key singing at all. In vocoder mode, it will work that way, as all vocoders do. It’s just taking your words shapes and applying them to the note of your instrument, so if your holding a C down (or strumming) it is all going to come out a C. As for the Harmonizer it’s going to try to track along with whatever you put in it in key or out of key.

The new EHX Vocoder coming later this year (?) has something… (can’t remember the name now… hyper-tune or something?) that looks to be like EHX’s version of Auto Tune, which will do exactly what you are looking for I’m guessing. Although it is a much despised effect out there in the world. So it’ll be interesting to see the response from that unit. I’ll buy one if this is the case, just to run instruments thru, see what happens.

    All the same…

I WANT to see Space Drum reissues with sampling capabilities. Simple little one pad sample trigger w/ trigger in!

Oh and the original sounds too : )

My best guess, as I’ve seen quite a few Blue w/ Modulation units – is that they were the first DMMs w/ Chorus/Vibrato before switching to the black and red color scheme.

As for the sound… My experience is also that DMMs all sound a bit different. Although you can usually count on the older ones breaking up sooner, and dirtier, and being a little “wilder” sounding over all. I have a black face with AC cord attached (year ?), but it sounds fantastic in it’s primitive ways.

I’ve played with a few of the newer units, and while still sounding lush and beautiful, they bored me compared to mine.

I would like to ad to my list for the 2880 V2:

An output for the click track, that when a jack is in place it mutes it from the mains and sends only out this jack. Or maybe just out the headphones even. But I want this to sync my click track sync units.

Also wirelss transfer of .Wav files, because I’m too lazy to plug it into my computer. :D
