Here is ‘Number 2’ (the new one) with the clearly visible C3 & C5

And here is good old ‘#1’ without a C3/C5

These are the first reference pics I took when I frist brought the new one home. I’ll pull the chassis out tomorrow and take some better pics

Those are the preamp filter capacitors C3 and C5 and should be present on all MIG60’s. Can you please post some pictures of your amps?

Yeah. I’ll pop them out of their shells tomorrow and shoot some pics.
In the meantime, here’s a face shot of them.

The one I had before is the bottom one, with the lighter orange switches (withOUT the C3/C5 there). The new one (WITH the capacitors) has the darker switches. I notice with all the pic I see online with the capacitors there have the darker switches.

    ALSO-
I got another set of fat bottle 6CA7s (like the ones that came in the ‘new’ amp) and the difference in level between the heads is negligible now. There IS still a mildly noticeable difference in presence or ‘clarity’, but that falls in the realm of ‘no two units are completely alike’.

i’m gonna try to get some pics up

Hey all. New user here. Surprisingly. I got a NYC Big Muff, a couple Black Russians, Pog2, Soul Food and who knows what else. I shoulda joined up here a long time ago…

But anyway, MIG 60s. Awesome. Love mine. Had it for around 6 or 7 years I think. Been my main amp for my main band the whole time. I’ve only seen one other at a gig here in town (Spokane WA) and only last week did I see one (again, in town) for sale. Had to jump on it. It advertised as a 1993. And it was SO clean, you would swear you shot back in time to 94. Got it home. Plugged it in right next to my old one. Cosmetically, the only difference is, the newer ones power switches are a darker orange. Each into a (home made) straight 412 cab loaded with Rocket 50s. Settings matched. The ‘new’ one is louder. Notably. Mmm. Tube choice? So I pull the backs off. Well, sure, the power tubes are different brands, but that’s not what catches my eye. Behind the first two pre tubes, there is what looks kind of like (but they’re not) two more tube covers. But I don’t believe they’re tubes. I doubt they are, at least. But I don’t KNOW, so that begs the first question: What the hell ARE those things? (I’ll try get pics hosted and posted)
A couple interesting point to note- the little plate inside the ‘new’ one says ‘246 1993’. The plate in my old one says ‘240 1993’. Hell, does that make them practically siblings?
Also. The new one came with a schematic. Drawn (apparently) by Ed P with the New Sensor Corp., 133 5th Ave NY, NY on Nov 17th, 1993.

Nov 17th is the 321st day (or so) of this year (not looking up 1993 right now). If you minus the weekends, that MIGHT get you 246. So there’s that, if we’re still trying to crack that code.

Now, I’m not an amp tech, and I don’t ‘speak’ electronics. Can barely ‘read’ electronics, but I can’t quite tell if these things are mentioned in the schematic or not unless I decide to pull the chassis out and trace it all out (not doing that today for sure). But I figured I’d look around online to see if this was an after market mod (if so, what kind?) or just a model variant or what have you.

    Anyone got any insight?

    Sean

    **EDIT**
I found this pic http://www.kramerforum.com/george/amps/sovtek_mig60_3.JPG which HAS the same ‘additional’ tube cap looking things that I saw on my new head that are NOT on my original head
