Last night I went home a tooled around with my DMM again…. The overload knob is great. This reminds me when I was a kid; I had an old green Echoplex tape delay. When the tape cartridge got full and couldn’t store any more, I removed it from the unit and used the Echoplex as a Tube Overdrive box in front of an old Plexi…. and this DMM reminded me of it… I rarely use it as a delay when applying it as a pre-amp stage… Not sure where I am going with this, but maybe someone can appreciate it.

Simply the best sound and tone comes from a tube amp…. for loud performance and recording…. Solid state amps work too… for practicing. Booster and overdrive pedals don’t really work on them.

This is great…. I was talking with someone about the Nano Muff the other day. I grabbed one and tried it out with some single coils running it into a Sovtek Mig 50 with a 4×12 cabinet. I tell you, this is a great box. I agree, it ass dirt to your sound and really cleans up when you roll back the volume. It was one of those pedals you really have to play with, even with one knob. It can really do wonders to a hot, overdriven tube amp. It just gives that “Umph” that that amp needs to just peak.

They days I have been running single coils into a Deluxe Memory Man with AC Cord (Old School) and the Overdrive function really makes my amp cook. Like I’ve said in the past, there is a lot you can do with EHX stuff when you have the time to experiment. The DMM’s overdrive is really great. I rarely use it as a delay…. too funny… funny…. funny… funn… fun…..fu…f….

    I got this from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_muff

Bands such as Smashing Pumpkins and Dinosaur Jr. The band Mudhoney loved the pedal so much that they named an EP after it, Superfuzz Bigmuff. Singer-songwriter John Martyn also paid tribute to the pedal by naming a song after it. Robert Sledge, Bassist of the since disbanded group Ben Folds Five, used the pedal during recorded and live performances. Jack White of the White Stripes has also made the Big Muff an integral part of his garage rock sound. Chris Ross, the bassist of Wolfmother uses the New York version of the Big Muff. The pedal is a part of the stoner rock sound, and bands like Fu Manchu and Monster Magnet and Kyuss owe a big debt to the big muff. Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth both use the Sovtek version of the Big Muff. The Big Muff remains a favorite among guitarists and bassists for its distinctive sound.

That’s not enough Fuzz….. you need a Russian Muff in there to keep it in line from messing with the NYC Muff. The Cold War maybe over, but these rivals will continue to keep their front on the War To Fuzz Redemption….

Each project calls for different fuzz distortions. Experiment and you may be surprise to find a tone you never thought of ever hearing. For under $90, The Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker is a lot of bang for your buck. Easy to use controls can dial up a myriad of fibely tuned distortions. Keep the peace with Big Muff Pi, Win the battle with Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker.

Yes, complex distortion euphoria… It’s that feeling you get when you “nail” that sound. That distortion that makes you feel really good and fuzzy inside. Your ears love you for going out and finding such a pedal to use in your tonal assault….. Boy, Have I read too many magazines or what.

I have tried this box in the EHX Kitchen. It’s the most versatile Big Muff yet. You can really dial in the right tone and frequency that works for your application. Plus the White Paint on the box makes the distortion a bit juicier.

The Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker is a great Distortion/Sustainer that will work on guitar, bass and keyboards. Rememebr, you can try any of the EHX Muffs with this combination. We already have a great Bass Big Muff Pi, but the Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker can sure add some serious coloring to your bass tone. Why not have two? You will have that classic Pi sound with more capabilities than before. You will indeed love this box as it is the gateway to complex distortion euphoria…. So Step On!

The Deluxe Memory Strikes Again!!! This time on a Nord Lead Keyboard…. Not only does it work on guitar and bass, also on keys! Why not throw a mic into it and modulate your own voice and delay it accordingly. EHX does it again….

That is the beauty of these metal boxes with knobs. As long as you have a line signal, you can plug into any of the EHX Pedals and get a sound that you have never heard before. You can take a cheap keyboard and use that as a source to conjure up some scary sounds. The possibilities are really endless. Take that old FX box you stopped using and try it in a different set up. I personally like the Bass Big Muff these days for keyboards. You can get some off the wall tones and distortion that get your neighbors wondering if you are slaughtering a hippo in your kitchen sink…. think about that sound!

There is an EHX Mini Synth here at HQ…. I have tried it. Very cool indeed. That would be great to have on top of your amp for when you can walk over to it and drop some Analog Blast Frequency Modulated Filtered Assault…. that sound is a reminder of the New Wave Era….. I think of Depeche Mode when dropping those sounds. I have read articles where they mentioned using Big Muff while recording Violator…. The Big Muff NYC is a box for all ages…. No small parts to swallow…. just shards of glass like tone to watch out for.

Just Giving You Guys A Head Up….

The Graphic Fuzz EQ/Distortion/Sustainer in the XO Box is wonderful. The EHX Chefs really nailed this one down. The same tonal quality that the Classic had is all in this XO Box. Same Taste, small portion, but very satisfying…. It will leave you unbuckling your belt like after a Thanksgiving Dinner…..
