Did I mention the sound on this thing is INCREDIBLE!!!

Ya’ can’t say it enough! I mean, not only is there no degradation in the signal, I’d go out on a limb and say that the input driven signal actually sounds better through the 2880. Have no reserves to run through this thing live. If you’re tone is sucking, the 2880 won’t be at fault.

I think I’ve said it before, but if not, this is one impressive little unit that EHX straight NAILED! Truly my favorite of all toys….. They’ve outdone themselves on this one! [que: applause……..]

One thing I’m really wondering is in Mixdown, I’m almost always going to do this live. Is there a way to mixdown the tracks and then have the four shut off, go blank, or other. My attempts so far have left me with a huge volume jump as the mixdown passes a second time around, as the 1-4 track faders are still up…

A (kind’a temporary) solution for that problem is that you can record the mixdown (even live) and leave the “Mixdown Fader” all the way down the whole time. It will still record the mixdown at the volumes that the 4 channels are set at but WILL NOT playback with the loop repeat along with the 4 tracks. You can slide the master up while group slide the 4-tracks down later (even fast) and start over with recording onto your 4 tracks if you want. Just engage the “Punch-In” switch so it straight records over the previous tracks instead of dubbing with them.

Hope that makes sense…. and wish there was an easier way myself! anyone else?

Great Idea! I’d be in for one, if it could be pulled off without stripping tone or getting to digitized sounding. I also like the idea alt tuning in in partial notes.

How does the Holy Stain sound with the Pitch Bending? The 2880 looper does a great job with the pitch shifts through the “tempo” slider and uniquely, moves in full measure note increments, so I know EHX could pull it off. The only issue might be something as particular as quarter note increment tuning in an EHX box would be a lack of a LED screen or something equivalent. I imagine it could still be done with incrimental knob movements, but it might be something you may want to start programming your unique tunings to as presets, que-able by an LED screen, perhaps?

Long answer short, no you can’t run a stereo pair of signals out in stereo aside from loop playback, and you’re right, maybe you should be able too.

The stereo in’s are really just two mono channels in (labeled R & L). Just as the 4 loop channels are mono too (with the ability to pan). However, I’ve never tried to run a dry signal of two inputs, panned hard Right and Left while the “Stereo Mode” was engaged. Maybe, although I doubt, it might place the two signals panned – if you have both outputs feeding something and panned hard left/right too.

That might be a good suggestion for a “2880 Suggestions” thread…. and let suggestions accumulate as users explore the looper. I still find it doesn’t lack anything personally, but could see your point about a convenient stereo-dry signal out. you would pretty much be looking for an additional dry signal slider along side of the lone existing one. I personally like the dry on one slider, and could see nuisances with two dry sliders…. I’m sure they have a logical reason they laid it out like that.

Alright, so I should probably get blasted for this (being a EHX) forum…. but I’d recommend checking out the Cusack Screamer Fuzz. My absolute favorite! You can hear demos on proguitarshop.com or cusackmusic.com. It has a great ability to roll the “screamer” and “fuzz” to desired levels including tons of tasty, subtle levels or even roll them all the way open, then roll the overal volume to taste…. I find almost every setting useable. A couple others are the ZVex: Fuzz Factory or better, the Woolly Mammoth. But depending on your budget, those can get pretty pricey.

For the EHX, I would check out the Big Muff Pi w/ wicker, the English Muff’n or if you want to go more all in one, maybe the holy stain……

Not to gripe……. but I have a gripe:

Isn’t the “poll” attached to this thread kind of pointless? Aren’t both single coils and Hb’ers great. I play through them both, depending on what the sound or style calls for. I have mutual love for both, not to mention guitars that have both and that get used equally. I guess it would be more realistic results if it had an added “both/either” or “depends” option. That would probably take most votes.

It’s about as telling as a “tits or a$$” poll……. Aren’t they both just great!

I’d consider and just plan on putting it in front of all of those.

It can sometimes be beneficial to put it behind other pedals that can add significant volume, especially for certain pedals that you might want to add volume / gain to get to the sound you want…… like fuzz or drive pedals. This way you can tweek the pre and post levels on the B.F. and get the signal closer to it’s true volume after you’ve pushed it with drive pedals. There is other ways of doing this too (I use mic tube pre’s), but the black finger could work all the same.

I love the Valve Junior. I modded it with the Bitmo Trio kit and it is great. I have never played any Gibson amp and bought the Epi stack as a basic “intro” tube amp for me. It will do anything I ask of it and can be pretty damn loud for 5 watts too. The Trio kit adds a tone and 3 voicing switch for around $50 and is a great addition. Simple to install to, I do a lot of pedal mods and the trio was quite easy to install. The speaker is an Eminence Lady Luck and I like it as well.

Take it easy guys, PM me if you have any other questions or anything. Also if you are ever interested in getting something modded or doing electrical work just drop me a line and I’ll see if I can help you. Later dudes and keep rockin’!

Aww, your a dirty guy Dawson. I should’a asked you how it sounds clean (being a 5 watt’r, I figure not too loud), but I’m really interested in it’s clean tone. I checked you samples (great stuff by the way), most of it’s driven. Is that the Valve Junior miced on the opening part of the song named “beauty” ?

Dawson1498, what’s your opinion of that Epi stack you’ve got there? I’ve been REALLY loving some Gibson amps, from their vintage, low watt crestine series combos to more modern goldtones. I’m curious if the Epiphone’s are similar to their Gibson relatives? Um, I see you’ve got a mic on it….. any chance you could share some clips from it?

Hey! Thanks a lot for the compliments! Yeah, Sim Tut, my next pedal will be the Stereo delay with Hazarai. The looper feature is cool, but I’m more excited about the true stereo delay for a particular stereo loop amp I have as well a broader delay time than the Deluxe Memory Man.

Funny you mentioned an eBow Chumley…. my friend was JUST telling me about them and recommended I get one. I’ve never tried them and don’t know what they can do, but will look at them for sure. um, I do have a few real horse hair bows though, does that count? and I do know that the eBow looks like a stapler?

thanks WatsonWood, I can recall digging some recordings I heard of yours a while back on the forum. Some super sustained live guitar stuff. Great Stuff! I have countless more similar melodies but am reluctant to throw them up before they are actually contrived to songs.

Smileys, how do you like that “Low Fi Junky Loop”? been thinking about getting one……

Sorry for the late response, I really like it a lot. It can’t do overdubs which is a major drawback for lots of people, but you just can’t replicate the loop sound it produces with any other pedal. I’ve actually used it a lot for recording, it’s a really unique and fun pedal to mess with. It’s also teeny so I can stick it in my guitar case for looping on the go.[/quote]

That was the wrong answer….. you were supposed to say you hate and and want to sell it to me for dirt cheap! (just playing) Cool, glad you like it! From the few video demos I’ve seen it in, it’s capabilities seem priceless…. In most ways, unable for anything pre or post recording processing to replicate. I’m definitely getting mine, probably would have already if it wasn’t damn near 400 bucks. That’s a fun slew of pedals you’ve got there!

So how does it sound on the normal setting?
The squash setting is quiet but i would be interested to hear how things are in the normal mode.

I’ve been playing through mine in Squash for a so long, you’ve got me curious again. I experimented with it through the day while playing and it sounded super fantastic in normal mode too. I’ve gotten away from the normal setting due to the previous tubes being too noisy. Everything was well and pleasant, and as you could imaging, a quicker attack than the squashed mode. I didn’t notice any unwanted noise today. In this mode I like the settings a little on the moderate side:

    Normal / Lamp
    Compression @ 2:00 / Pre Gain @ 9:30 / Post Gain @ 12:30

I find that punching the pre-gain adds unwanted filament and noise, opposed to pushing the “post” signal. Everything sounded great amped, but I didn’t spend any time closely sampling through the normal mode through headphones, where I’ve noticed noisy filament in the past.

For those curious, I can assure you that there is no other compression pedal available that has as much tasty character. It’s such a full, lush and warm compression. The 300 volts (do not touch) flowing into this box is plenty enough to push your signal while thickening it all the same.
