….. current setup:
freshchopsMembersoooo….. still no luck syncing the Roland TR-606 with the 2880
> The Roland only has one midi sync jack – but a switch to choose between “Input” and “Output”. I have it set to “Output”
> I have the midi cable plugged into the 2880’s “Midi In”
> With the Roland 606 playing through a rhythm loop, I select both the “Quantize” and “Ext Clock”
> Once I arm a “new track” (loop on the 2880) and with the 606 looping and press “Record” – it doesn’t begin to record, but it sends the “Ext Clock” indicator light flashing rapidly. NOTE: while the “Ext Clock” button / light is engaged, the “Click Track” tempo does not follow the tempo by default or as I increase or decrease the tempo on the 606…. shouldn’t it?
> Once I press record for the second time, with the Ext Clock light blinking, it begins to record on track 1.
…. now it’s one thing to play along with the 606’s rhythm… it’s all fine and dandy until I try to stop recording and have the 2880’s track sync with the 606. It just doesn’t work. No matter how I choose to stop recording and continue playing (pressing play or pressing record again on the footswitch), it’s not going to be in sync and as it plays just furthers drifts away from being in sync. I’m starting to think it’s not going to work, but can’t imagine why.
I’m new to midi, but I’d figure the 2880’s midi syncing to be a little more intuitive than this.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Am I overlooking any settings? …got everything hooked up right (regards to outs and ins, etc.)?
freshchopsMemberGot it…. will try and revert back w/ results. Thanks!

Well done indeed.
Thanks & Muchos’ Gracious (which mean the same thing… so DOUBLE THANKS!!!!!)
freshchopsMemberI had a problem with the supplied Memory Card early on… but everything has worked flawlessly since replacing them. Also, I don’t have the info available or time, but you might want to make sure that firmware is up to date. You’ll find info in this forum about it.
My guess is that it’s just the memory card.
July 31, 2010 at 7:34 am in reply to: order all the EHX pedals you’ve owned from favorite to least favorite #110589freshchopsMembermy modest list would go something like:
• 2880 looper
• Deluxe Memory Man
• Freeze
• Black Finger
• Hum DebuggerfreshchopsMemberQuote:can you catch percussives for glitchy sounds? No, I’ve yet to capture anything percussive even though I’ve tried various ways. Simply put, it literally captures like a millisecond and stretches it out. Not even enough time for the sharpest little percussive tones…. it’ll just stretch out whatever the timbre of the sounds at the time it’s captured.
It’s pretty interesting how and when it captures, and it almost seems like it samples a collective signal and stretches it….. for example, if you are in the process of strumming a chord and capture, no matter when you freeze it, you won’t get any distinction between strumming each note, at all…. so in that case, it’s ideal to capture right as you’re completing the chord. In other words, the window of sampling is tight.
A lot of the questions and comments I see kinda hint towards the technology of a delay w/ tight and infinite timing or even a looper as if it’s just looping a tight little window of signal… but it’s worth noting, it’s definitely taking a split second of signal and infinitely stretching it out.
I thought for sure I’d be able to capture something percussive, but once it continually denies to freeze any variation in tone or timbre, you realize how instant it’s sampling window is….. and it’s cool like that!

freshchopsMemberMy all around favorite is a Telecaster. From the sample sounds you linked…. I here a whole lot of Strat going on. You might want to check out a strat, w/ a rosewood neck too. Another you might consider is a good semi-hollow body….. like an Epiphone Dot. I play a Strat w/ rosewood neck too and love it all the same…. great guitars!
freshchopsMemberAs far as I know, I don’t think a footswitch is available for that. That’s really the one thing I feel would be a vast improvement for the 2880, is an option to solo or mute each of the four tracks + one mix down track. I’d like to see what others think… any solutions?
freshchopsMemberagreed, like the Cathedral demo. It’s very candid and un-polished, so it feels a lot like what the common user would experience…. not a couple hours of select, fine tuned clips cut like a commercial. That said too, you did a good job covering lots of it’s variety with a variety of styles too. Nice playing!

A couple people here have gotten one already.I guess I’ve limited my search to the big retailers. I’m seeing a couple small shops online selling them….. honestly, I assume these small mom & pop shops are selling them in advance and they’re not on hand because small shops have to do that to beat the big ones to the sale…. while they may not actually have them on hand yet. I’ve got a cart full of things I’m about to buy at M.F., but waiting for the Freeze to pop up there first.
freshchopsMemberHave y’all had a chance to use it in a “stereo set-up” yet? What do you think?
I’ve got a couple true stereo amps (Gibson GA30RVS and a Fender Ultimate Chorus) that I’ve yet to run a stereo effect through. I’m considering the SMM and the Cathedral.
I also was curious, has anyone gone from a Deluxe MM to the SMM? Is there any notable differences in quality. I don’t think I would want to go without my DMM, but if the Stereo is all that, then some… seems like a good upgrade. Are you sure the quality is the same as the DMM?
freshchopsMemberQuote:Cool arty pics, ‘Chops.cool, Thanks!
here’s a few others I took at the time. I got a pair of Ribbon mics (fatheads) I’ve been experimenting with… and really digging them.
and here’s a full spread shot…. sounds kinky huh
