Man,you can’t give these things away. I’ve been breaking up my muff collection to fund some bigger deal pedals and nobody wants these ones.
We need a buy & sell forum on here for vintage/old EHX…I know!
On HCFX and TGP the IC muff is one of the worst among a lot of people but in my mind and among some of my friends its one of the best.I always said its kinda like a regular muff going thru a crunchy marshall stack, not 100% but it has the same quality.
Anyways, I love them, I got mine for about !00 bucks last year or the year before (i cant remember) but 100 Bucks is pretty standard for these theses days although you can pay more like $150 and you can definitely pay much less.
People are missing out by dismissing it out of hand!
I guess it is their loss and our gain! Mine isn’t going anywhere, and when it gets true bypassed, it will have a permanent home on my pedal board!
firesgt911MemberI think nobody wants them because people say they are bad. Sure, they don’t sound like the other muffs, but man they still sound really good. Im glad I was able to get my hands on it for so cheap. I think people should try it before they drink the Kool Aid.
firesgt911MemberWill do!
firesgt911Member***UPDATE***
So, I cleaned the switch and it works like a dream! This pedal sounds great. It gives me a great distortion sound that I can’t stop using. It does suck the H≪out of my amps tone, but sounds so good while on that I don’t really care.
Liberty Belle,
I did a lot of research before buying this pedal. I knew it was the opamp and that most players of the time didn’t really care for them. I read that it didn’t stay in production for long, probably due to the fact that it sounds different than the other Muffs. But, then I read one review that described it as one of the best distortion pedals the person had ever used and one of the worst fuzzes. He also said that it rarely comes off his board. I figured the price was right and it was vintage, so I would give it a go. I am really glad I did. I do hope to get my hands on a Rams Head and a Triangle someday, but for now this one is getting the job done. I might try to make it true bypass, but I have enough projects for now.
Thanks for all the great posts and information on this forum. EHX has me hooked.
firesgt911MemberGreat! Thanks. I will try cleaning it. I can get a switch for like a buck, but I would like to keep it original, you know?
Thanks again.
firesgt911MemberQuote:Quote:I think I will make it the Rams Head. Anyone ever built one of these kits before? Or compared one to the real thing?I built one from spare parts I had lying around and it sounds exactly like a couple of ramsheads I’ve used.
The 10uF input cap version is the best version to build IMO! its thicker than the other versions, you’ll have to refer to the schematic to find out which version it is if you’re using GGG.Thicker sounds like what I am after. I will look into it. Thanks Liberty Belle!
firesgt911Memberfiresgt911MemberI can’t seem to find my usb cable for my camera, but I will, and when I do pictures are coming! I even have the original warranty card and instruction sheet.

firesgt911MemberVery cool. I thought it would come between the Rams Head and the Triangle. Man, I would love to get my hands on an actual vintage Muff someday. I keep getting hit with little things that steel the funds from my “Vintage Fund.” I usually see them floating around in the $400-500 range. Oh well. The clone will have to do until then.
So I am leaning towards the Violet Rams Head now, since it was the only response. Please keep the responses coming, so that I can hear about the others before I make my final decision which way to go.
Thanks mlamons!
