LOL that could be good or bad.
Agreed on using the DMM for overdrive. I recorded a track using a 1978 4 knob Blue/Red DMM to overdrive my ’68 Fender VibroChamp. I made ample use of the lofi Reticons. You can hear it about half-way into the song after the middle 8 breakdown when the power chords start crunching:

BTW, no keyboards used in this recording, just guitars and EHX pedals (and a BOSS PS-3 since I didn’t have my HOG yet at the time).
As for the Muff, is the circuit of the Muff pretty much identical to my ’75 Little Muff Pi? I love that little box.

Foo Fighters used a Deluxe Memory Man on “Breakout” and “Headwires.”
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI’ve never actually tried the vintage unit. I’ve always wanted to. It cracks me up to see the inside of the enclosure. The circuit board could easily have fit inside a smaller enclosure, but I guess they used the deluxe enclosure to make it easier to implement the direct out jack.
I’ve heard from various sources that the vintage Hot Tubes gets a very muffled sound, not much definition.
The reissue is brilliant, for what I want. You can set it to be very subtle, with just a hair of dirt, to all-out Big Muff style sustain. The EQ is the best part. It is not at all conventional, and the bass and treble controls are interactive (paracyclic) allowing you to get some very mid-range, throaty tones.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorWe know for sure that Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth used an Electro-Harmonix vintage Hot Tubes and a reissue Micro Synthesizer before their gear was stolen:

As soon as I figure out which songs, I’ll edit this post.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:Hey all, I thought it might be fun to try to compile a list of “iconic tracks” that have used EHX gear (obvious selections might include work by Pink Floyd, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, White Stripes, etc.Fender&EHX;, that means you!
Haha, this will be an ongoing research project for me.
Okay, first up – I have no explicit evidence of this, but I’m pretty sure that Adrian Belew used an Electro-Harmonix Frequency Analyzer for “Mr. Self Destruct”, the opening song from the Nine Inch Nails’ 1994 masterpiece, The Downward Spiral.

Tell me that the chaotic loop at the end of the song is not using a Frequency Analyzer, I dare ya!Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote::rawk: :metal: :love:Looks great, mate! :thumb:
You’ve definitely hit your maximum now. That RAT Deucetone is almost as big as The Wiggler
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI wasn’t sure before if I was going to buy the Big Muff Pi with Tone Wicker, because i already have a Big Muff Pi, a vintage Little Muff Pi, a Deluxe Big Muff Pi, a Reissue Hot Tubes, a Tube Zipper, and a Germanium OD.
But seeing your post, Mike, has convinced me that I now need this one. I can’t wait! :rawk:
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:Any thoughts/suggestions?It would be cool if they were linked to the Artists page somehow: https://www.ehx.com/about/artists
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:Yet another great catch F&EHX;– you have a sharp eye!Here’s a screencap:
That is a DMM isn’t it, and not a Deluxe Electric Mistress?
Quote:you like em?Yeah i saw they used a DMM long time ago.
Yeah, I think they could be the next biggest US band if they can put out another single as good as “Time to Pretend” on the next album. I just hope they don’t burn out too fast. Their humor is great, and their hooks kill.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:There is an EHX Mini Synth here at HQ…. that sound is a reminder of the New Wave Era….. I think of Depeche Mode when dropping those sounds. I have read articles where they mentioned using Big Muff while recording Violator….I love Violater and Music For The Masses. Those albums are post-New Wave classics, for sure – very influential to NIN and Radiohead.
Any chance that EHX will ever release another keyboard type synth?
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI’m not a keyboard/synth player, but I’m always keeping an eye out for vintage Roland Junos on Craigslist. I love a lot of New Wave era bands that use an abundance of synth textures – these are probably my favorites: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showpost.php?p=25320152&postcount=1
Do you also use the Electro-Harmonix Mini Synthesizer? http://songsandsonics.com/tag/electro-harmonix-mini-synthesizer/
I would love to have one of those
Fender&EHX4everModeratorSounds beautiful, tubezipper  It has that Cocteau Twins quality about it that I’m all about.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI’m at work, so I can’t listen right now; but I’ll check it out when I get home. :thumb:
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI agree. I’ve been missing those as well.

The on position allows you to switch between out 1 or output 1+2 simultaneously.Since I have 2 vintage Switchblades, I did a fun mod to one of them this weekend.
With the slide switch in the on position, it is a bypass looper with one loop. I use it for my Space Echo RE-101.
With the slide switch in the alt position, it is a channel switcher.I just had to change the 1pdt footswitch to a 3pdt, and drill an extra hole for an output jack below the input jack.
