I just bought one this week, and I’m waiting for it in the mail. If you need any interior pics, let me know.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorYou can definitely cop a rotary speaker sound in the flanger mode. The key is to keep the width knob down enough so that the pitch bend isn’t too deep, and give it a hint of feedback, but not too much. I’d keep the delay time knob at minimum.

thx for that link… trouble is however that mine is an old vintage one so i fear those settings may not correspond. will give it a go tho…
The settings will be completely different between the vintage PolyChorus and the Reissue.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:You bet. I have one of those. IIRC, it’s also the only wah-type pedal EH made that had a chrome treadle, rather than black.Fender&EHX4everModeratorHmmm, first off, the Black Finger is one of my favorite EHX pedals; but it is a very subtle compressor compared to the Soul Preacher or the White Finger. You should definitely hear the compression, and the volume drop issues should be fixable with the Post Gain knob.
Try out my settings, and if those don’t make a difference, I’d say it’s possible that you have a defective unit:
Compression: maximum
Post Gain: 12:00 (The Post Gain is variable depending on which guitar I use; but I use it to determine unity volume)
Pre Gain: 2:00

SQSHFender&EHX4everModeratorSeriously, that sounds incredible. I can’t wait to see/hear the YouTube clips.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorGreat news!!!
Most of the problem was that fact that I was testing it last night using my Jagmaster, which has high output humbuckers. I tested it today using my ’92 Fender Mustang, and the lower output single coils made all the difference in the world – a match made in heaven. I also tightened up all the screws and nuts that attach the circuit to the cabinet. One of the main culprits behind the rattling was the Small Stone switch. Very easy to tighten without any disassembly. Unfortunately, there’s still a minor bit of rattling coming from the silver transistor plate attached to the amp circuit board, , but I can’t tighten it without disassembling the whole thing, and I just don’t have the time or energy to go there right now. It only seems to rattle on a low G at high volumes, so it isn’t a big deal – just me being a perfectionist.
This amps is soooooooooo quiet. Unbelievable. It is so incredibly clean with single coils. The BITE control really does what it says. This amp can get some serious mid range attack, much more so than my eardrums are accustomed to (ouch!). But the response is lovely. I couldn’t be happier.
As for getting a new speaker, the one in there seems to be doing fine now that I’ve solved most of the rattling issues. Eventually I will pick up a 12VR8, with high hopes that it will make this amp sing even more sweetly; but that can wait.
EHman, is that circuit essentially a Freedom Amp circuit? The board looks like it will fit into a Big Muff-sized enclosure, so I wonder if it’s the same circuit.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:no that won’t matter at all…..it’s just what the speaker can handle, and long as the ohms is the same it’s all good. it might (and that’s only might) sound a little cleaner because the speaker won’t be pushed as hard as one with a lower rating. My 30w Marshall SS had a 100w rated speaker in it!!Cleaner might be good, because I’m thinking about using it for recording bass guitar. I’ve already tried running my bass through it, and it sounded pretty good, especially with the Small Stone on; but the speaker rattled too much at higher volumes.
I’ll report back after I try out the 12VR8.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:you could always put an ehx speaker in it, that would be pretty cool and they are pretty inexpensive….is the speaker 12 or 10 inch?12″
This would be the closest match: http://www.newsensor.com/ProductHighLight.aspx?ProId=412
But it’s rated for 75 watts. Will that have any effect?
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI finally got back to test this amp tonight, after much anticipation.
It’s definitely a fixer-upper, which doesn’t bother me much because I’m pretty sure I can fix it up, and I got this thing for a really low price.
First problem is that it rattled like a baby toy. I removed the back panel, and in the process a wood piece of frame reinforcement fell out. Simple fix, it just needs to be nailed in again. I also noticed that the white wire was loose from the power switch, which might explain why the power LED doesn’t light up. I tightened the screws that hold the electronics in, hoping that might reduce some rattle.
The big question is the speaker. First of all, it’s some kind of generic speaker without any identifying text or label on it at all. Not sure if it’s the original speaker, but somehow I doubt it. I’ve been looking at the greenbacks, but those suckers are pricey. I guess that’s the route I should take though.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:No plans really….sell some things I don’t really use and get something I will….still looking at black ‘lite ash’ telecasters… :facepalm:Nice :thumb: I like that one. It looks like a traditional Tele – None of that Deluxe
’72 humbucker crap with 4 knobs :poke:Right now the Voice Box has me excited. I’d like to buy some hardshell cases for my Gretsch Synchromatic and my Fender Mustang and Jagmaster. I’d like a to get TV Jones Classic neck position pup for my Gretsch.
Other than that, I’ll always be on the lookout for cool vintage EHX stuff. I really need to sell a lot of stuff this year and downsize my studio. I feel like I have a pet elephant that keeps me anchored, and that ruins my aspirations to roam the planet.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:It is truly one of the most exciting modulation instruments ever built… The sonic potential never gets old and that means a lot when you do not want to follow the same old crowd.Yes. The Flanger Hoax gets cycled around in my favorite pedal spot again and again. No other modulation unit I’ve ever used can accomplish the same sounds. I love it so much that I have 2 of them.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:oh the one last posted! i have that too i LOVED it till the wires gave up the ghost.. and i know nothing of solderingDo you have the 9v or the 18v version?
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:I use and abuse a ton of EH boxes, and have been for decades. Boutique stuff is cool too, but EH has been doing it forever, and just don’t forget that alot of the fancy , expensive boxes out there are nothing but modded clones of some of the most basic ehx effectsI’ve seen the demos for the LPB-1 and the Big Muff Pi w/ Tone Wicker – sweeeet! :metal:
What other EHX pedals do you own? Can we request some specific Gearmanndude EHX demos?
Also, please recommend some tracks for this thread: https://www.ehx.com/forums/viewthread/65/
I’d like to add some more shining examples of EHX usage
Fender&EHX4everModeratorBonne année à tout le monde!
