Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:I heard that the compressor circuit on the Deluxe Big Muffs was the same as the Soul Preacher’s. Any info on that?
That is true. I have a vintage Soul Preacher and a Deluxe Big Muff Pi, and the compressor on both sound identical. The only difference is that the Dlx BMP does not have a treble boost.
April 27, 2009 at 11:16 am in reply to: Digitech Synth wah, I want the electro harmonix equivalent #96099Fender&EHX4everModeratorThe Digitech Synth Wah is a great little pedal for the price, and quite versatile for its compact size and 9v power supply.
If you want EHX pedals that can do the approximate tones, you would need a Micro Synthesizer, a Q-Tron, and a BassBalls. The EHX pedals are analog, and the Synth Wah is digital; so I prefer the tone of the EHX stuff. Also, the EHX pedals allow more control over parameters than the Synth Wah. Still, the Synth Wah can be purchased for less than $80, and that’s a real bargain.
The autowah feature on the Synth Wah is very peculiar, and more like a modulated synth filter than a traditional modulated wah. EHX doesn’t make anything that can substitute for it, although I prefer The Worm’s modulated wah over the Synth Wah’s.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:Hmmm… I have an LPB that certainly looks old, but it seems that the Plug and amp output are on the left. and the input is on the right. How can this be? Is it a reissue unit? It was given to me, so I’m not out any money if it is!IIRC, EHX made them in both configurations so you could choose if you wanted to plug it into your guitar, or plug it into your amp. I’ve seen a version where both ends were female. I’ve thought about converting mine to that configuration. Seems like it would be more practical that way.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI just did some studio spring cleaning this weekend, so I took the opportunity to grab this blurry shot.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorVariation 2
The Deluxe Rig
I would use my black Fender ’92 MIM Telecaster with this rig, but it’s at my parents’ house right now, so I couldn’t include it in the pic. This rig is distinctly reminiscent of tones heard from 1980 – 1981. Playing through it is like being in time machine.
The Hot Foot is being used here to turn the BMP fuzz up or off. The compressed clean tone is always on as long as the Dlx BMP is engaged.

2. Electro-Harmonix Mike Matthews Dirt Road Special solid state amp w/ built in Small Stone phase shifter
3. Electro-Harmonix pedalbag with surge protector
4. Hot Foot Expression Pedal
5. Deluxe Big Muff Pi
6. Deluxe Electric Mistress
7. Deluxe Memory Man

(sorry for the blurry pic, bad lighting today)
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:Nice Job Fender&EHX4ever;!
Sounds great.
I think I need one:-)Bill
Thanks, Bill  The Wiggler is one of my favorite EHX offerings. It does change the tonal color of your signal, but I love the way it colors it.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI’ve always found expression pedals to be tricky. The M-Audio EXP is fairly disposable, but at least they can be picked up for about $20 on eBay every so often.
I have a vintage EHX Volume Pedal that is super-rugged and beautiful, and strangely enough it works great as an expression pedal for the Holiest Grail and the Tube EQ; but it doesn’t work with the HOG. I’m trying to figure out if there’s a mod I need to do to get it to work. If that was possible, I’d say that would be the best expression pedal of all.
DiscoFreq has a pic of mine at his site, thanks to electro-melx, who gave it to me as a gift : http://filters.muziq.be/model/eh/volume
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI haven’t tried checking it in as baggage on a flight, and I probably never would. I don’t think it would hold up under the abuse of baggage handlers, especially at JFK  They aren’t heavy duty construction, and I wouldn’t stand on one and jump up and down.
But for studio storage, rehearsals, and local gigging, I think they work out wonderfully.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:That is a REALLY kickass rig. Do you just leave on setting on the HOG, or do you do inter-song tweaking? I can imagine the combination of the distortion, micro synth and HOG could provide some pretty versatile combinations, even just if you just left one setting on each pedal. Thanks
I haven’t had a live gig in months. Currently, I’m only playing in my studio; so I’m tweaking all the time finding new sounds and guitar parts. This Synth Rig is very versatile indeed. I could get lost in that rig for a very long time, and still not exhaust the possibilities.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorCongrats on your score! :thumb:
I used to have a first gen Small Stone, but the one I had made a popping noise when engaged, and I don’t know how to fix that 😥 I sold it so I could afford my Fender Mustang.
Here’s a soundclip of it: http://soundclick.com/share?songid=7106245
Fender&EHX4everModeratorAwesome combo! I could probably live on those two pedals alone, and be quite content.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:(thank you Fender&EHX;)Happy New Pedalboard Day!!! Glad I could be helpful. I hope it works out for you
Fender&EHX4everModeratorInteresting pedal, the Dlx BMP. I have the earlier version with the blend switch instead of the parallel/series switch. But I wouldn’t find the series configuration very useful anyway, since the BMP already compresses the signal significantly to my ears. The parallel configuration is really cool because it allows you to tailor a mix of fuzz and clean all in one box.
If EHX really did reissue this pedal, I would like the blend switch to be a pushbutton switch that turned the fuzz off or on without disengaging the compressor.
Somehow, though, I just don’t see EHX ever reissuing this box, unless it had some hazarai thrown in for WOW factor.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorThe Wiggler is quite different from a UniVibe.

Fender&EHX4everModeratorI just bought one of those recently. The knob on mine has a little screw for securing the knob to the shaft, and there’s no pointer.
