Fender&EHX4everModeratorGo with WatsonWood’s advice.
I’ve used several old DMMs, and currently have 3; and the version you have is my favorite generation. It’s the one I use the most. It was never modified. I did the trimpot alignment myself, but I highly recommend letting Howard Davis do that for you. You will be rewarded.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:I mostly play metal but I like to experiment with all kinds of music. Is there any pedal that you highly recommend to have fun with?Quote:Flanger HoaxQuote:Oh, definetly the Flanger Hoax.Yep, the Hoax is great for metal, and other genres as well. It’ll make yer high gain leads burn like a comet.

it is an ex-bad stoneI’ll bet that there aren’t any rare components. Reviving it should be within reach.

Fender&EHX4everModeratorSome clock noise will be present at the highest delay time settings if the DMM was modded to extend the delay time beyond its factory settings. I had Howard Davis mod my 90s DMM for a longer delay time, and the repeats are definitely dirtier past 12:00 with a faint bit of clock noise. Your best bet is to use a 10 band EQ after the DMM and cut the noise out at 8khz and 16khz. I do this alot, and those particular frequencies are not necessary to my tone in most cases. In a mix, I prefer to let cymbals occupy that range.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorThe Reticon chips have shown up on eBay in the last year about every other month or so. You have to be quick, because they go fast. They usually sell for about $35, but I’ve seen one joker try to sell one for $100.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorCheck out this thread I posted at EHman’s site: http://electroharmonix.ronsound.com/cgi-bin/Blah/Blah.pl?b-cc/m-1200054534/
Eventually, EHman found that the BBD was dead, and that pretty much fixed it. But I switched out the 741 in the regulation, and that took some of the ghost clock noise out.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:Hey Fender&EHX4ever;,I got another Dirt Road Special! Just won it on Ebay for 105.01!!!
Now I’ll have the “monster” small stack. HMMMMMMMMMMMM…….. wonder how 4 of them would be? ha ha… yeah!
2 more to go then. I love having a plan.
WOW! That’s an awesome price! That one was hidden from my radar, because the keywords “electro-harmonix” were not in the title. Good thing for you, because I would have competed against you Congrats on your most excellent score!!!!
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:So far the BEST sounding amp I’ve ever heard. Now just gotta find another!Oh yeah! 2 stacked would be massive crunch. I’d love to find another MMDRS too, but I’m not gigging enough now to justify it.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:The Black Finger would indeed be a great XO re-issue. Mine seems to sustain for ever and ever with beautifully warm tones.I just got my vintage BlackFinger in the mail yesterday.
My impression of this pedal is that it sustains beautifully, and the tone control has a huge range that is very useful.
However, with my unit, I get a faint bit of harmonic distortion when playing certain clean chords. It is less audible when using low output single coils, and very audible when using humbuckers. I don’t hear it when playing lead lines, just on certain chords like an open G major.
Being that this unit is over 30 years old, and one of the first stompbox compressors made, it wouldn’t surprise me if this was just a limitation of the design; but I’d like to know if anyone else has this issue with their unit just to be sure mine doesn’t need some tweaking.
I’ll post a soundclip later for comparison.

Fender&EHX4everModeratorOne of those just sold last week on eBay. I’ll bet those units sound amazing for fat mono synth grooves.
Since it’s a single knob fuzz, it could be a Muff Fuzz/Little Muff Pi.
