There are no Reticons left in it. That makes it costly to repair.

Ah, I see, it’s just the sockets

    My condolences.

    Damnit.

Well thanks for the help guys. This is what was in the sellers description..

” This unit was a donor many years ago for the pots. It needs a little work to get it going. But well worth what we are asking for it.”

Ugh, and to think i paid close to $100 for this unit

    Oi Vei!

The Reticons might still be good. If that’s the case, you got a deal. You could resell just those chips alone on eBay for about $25 a pop, then sell the enclosure and the remaining parts for another $25 to someone who needs them.

I’d reckon you could fix the unit if the Reticons are still good, but that would be a monster headache!

    But doesn’t that create tremolo?

… What I really want to know is what they use in “A Bad Dream”. Trying my hardest to learn it. Oh and I read Tom uses the P.O.G. with :: gasp :: a guitar, for Spiralling.

Yes, the Pulsar is a tremelo pedal, but a very versatile tremelo that allows you to shape the waveform.

“A Bad Dream” is one of my favorite songs by Keane. I’m not hearing anything radical on the piano, maybe some reverb and chorus. It’s tough to tell in the mix.

I didn’t know that Tom was using a POG on “Spiralling”. Great info. Thanks again for sharing. :thumb:

I don’t play the keys very often, and when I do, I usually play through software.

But if I were to pickup an electric piano or analog synth, I would probably try these effects on it first:

    Reissue Black Finger
    The Wiggler
    Stereo PolyChorus
    PolyPhase (vintage)
    Deluxe Memory Man
    Stereo Memory Man with Hazarai
    Q-Tron +
    Micro-Synthesizer
    HOG
    2880

My wife introduced me to Keane, and now they’re one of my favorite bands of the last 10 years. Until now, I had no idea what gear Tim Rice-Oxley used. Thanks for sharing. So now the trick of figuring out which pedals were used on which songs. I’m guessing that the PolyChorus was used quite a bit. It sounds so luscious on keyboard.

Edit: So the Pulsar was used on “Put It Behind You”. I just watched the video.

If I’m not mistaken, I think the worm’s 4 modes all use the phaser as their engine, which might account for some of the similarity you are hearing between the modes.
I find the tremelo to be very subtle, but the wah, phaser, and vibrato are all quite pronounced for me.

My “brand new” big box Pulsar arrived today. The only reason I’m using quotes around “brand new” is because it’s technically unused, but it appears to have been in storage for awhile. I know this particular model was discontinued. It’s got the wooden box

those are hard to come by anymore. I’d keep it for the box alone.

The EHX Bi-Filter is probably the only thing comparable to the Bi-Phase. I will have one someday.

is there a minimum of owned EHX pedals to become an admin? :poke:

Yes, it’s been awhile, but IIRC Scott’s minimum requirements were:

    5 vintage units
    3 tube models
    3 XO models
    2 Big Muff Pis
    3 Deluxe Memory Man units
    2 Small Stone units
    2 Electric Mistress Units
    1 vintage 9v battery
    3 pieces of swag
    2 vintage catalogs
and the letters EHX tattooed across your forehead :metal:

It was a tough initiation period, but it was well worth it!

I saw them in Orlando a couple of years back. Great show! They were tight, and they rocked, so it’s sad that they have to start over with a new lineup.

Awesome! I haven’t had my 2880 for very long, but I want to learn how to be that fluent with it.

I can vouch for RonSound’s excellent work. I’ve sent a few EHX units to him for repairs.

Very cool! I love the ehx tube series!
I’m dying to try the mic preamplifier also. I’m hoping it will sound great with my rode NTK.
