The XO Worm is a small box with expression control and a filter.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:MOST LIKELY I’LL BE KEEPING THE CARBON COPY WHICH IS MUCH MORE PREDICTABLE.No comparison where I’m concerned. The Memory Boy was designed for those of us who wanted a whole lot more than the Carbon Copy could hope to offer.

Is the switch true-bypass? (I guess not….
BUMP
..and i would appreciate some general info and comments on this pedal
The vintage Soul Preacher requires a 9v positive tip power supply. I think I’ve tried both 300ma and 500ma, and both worked fine.
I don’t recall looking to see if they were true-bypass by default, but I can’t imagine it would be difficult to mod it.
It’s not my favorite EHX compressor, by a a long shot, but it’s good for some specific applications, like using it in front of fuzz or distortion for leads. It also does a fine job of being a bit of a treble booster.
If you’re looking for a great overall compressor, I would recommend the BlackFinger or WhiteFinger compressors first.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:if they dont sound as nice as the analog cousins do then i feel so wrong, like its setteling for lessFor me, it depends on taste and application. If you want your delayed tone really boomy and mushy sounding, use a Gretsch with humbuckers into a Memory Boy. If you want your delayed tone really crisp and clear, use a Strat into the SMMH with the filter set higher., etc. The DMM doesn’t always fit the bill for every application, though it sounds brilliant when the song or mix calls for it.
Different tools for different needs.
Quote:I wish i had NEVER seen the video that David Gilmour uses a boss de7 delay now for his stage pedalboard…..I mean if its good enough for him who am I to say different. It often boils down to “shut up and play,” doesn’t it? Use what inspires you. Period.

You guys are nuts! That video was hilarious, especially Mike’s intro.
I have to say that I really can’t stand the auto-tune effect all over the radio these days, but you guys have done a good job with it.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorJudging by your post, it sounds like you already have your heart set on the DMM sound. It is a special sound, because it uses the MN3005 BBDs which are becoming harder to find. If you want one, you best get one now instead of later while they are still available for affordable prices.
That said, both the SMMH and the Memory Boy are unique pedals that fill a special niche in the delay market. I love them all, and can think of many reasons why I should own all 3.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:Thanks for the reply, I actually stumbled across your thread a little earlier today it was great that you’d put up an audio sample of the polyflange.
So is it essentially the same pedal as the vintage polychorus albeit with some sublte nuances? I’ve read somewhere that there’s a little difference in the parts used, still I can’t wait to get my hands on this, the RI Polychorus is a great pedal but I was disappointed there was no vibrato.
Thanks again,
Tim.Yep, i’m pretty sure it’s the same pedal as the vintage PolyChorus. During that period of EHX, they were always changing up the paintjobs, using different colored circuit boards, different versions of the same components with the same values, different knobs, etc. But the circuits are the same. The main difference is in the BBDs used, and I’m pretty sure that the EchoFlanger, the PolyFlange, and the vintage PolyChorus all used the Reticon SAD1024 BBD.
Let us know how you like it.
Cheers, and enjoy!Fender&EHX4everModeratorQuote:I’ve tried everything. Does it need new tubes? Just bought it used. Is there anything I’m missing? It’s sometimes tricky to get it to self-oscillate. The Resonance has to be set above 3:00, for starters. After that, it’s a matter of getting the knobs to trigger it.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorThat’s a pretty fair price. They are very rare, even moreso than the EchoFlanger versions from what I’ve seen over the last 2 years on eBay, though they are essentially the same circuit.
Here’s a thread I started about mine with some more info: http://acapella.harmony-central.com/showthread.php?t=1908028
Fender&EHX4everModeratorAre you using the tube version or the vintage version?
I’m guessing that you are using the tube version.
For a glassier sound:
Compression = max
LED and SQSH
Post Gain = set for unity with the bypass
Pre Gain = Anywhere from 12:00 or more to tasteFor grit sound:
Compression = 12:00 or to taste
LAMP and Normal
Post Gain = set for unity with bypass, or higher to boost
Pre Gain = maxKeep in mind that the BlackFinger is probably not the best compressor for that 80s slick/glassy highly compressed sound. I’d go with the White Finger for that.

BRAVO, you’ve created another masterpiece!
It is a present and future classic.
Sounds great. Where did you get it? From a store or on the net?
Proaudiostar on eBay. Based on how much you like expression pedal control, I would guess that you’re going to love this pedal, WatsonWood. The possibilities are colossal.

Fender&EHX4everModeratorI’m so excited, I already have one on order. Unfortuately, I’m headed out of town for 2 weeks, so I won’t be able to play with it when it arrives 😥
Fender&EHX4everModeratorToo bad the Caliber 22 doesn’t run off of batteries. That would have been the ticket.
Fender&EHX4everModeratorI don’t play synth through my Q-Tron+, but I always place a compressor after it. Have you tried that yet?
