I’m sure this isn’t the answer you were hoping for, but I frequently use a compressor after filter effects, like wahs and envelope filters. Filters often have piercing peaks or clip the signal, and I like to keep those tamed a bit. A compressor will also help some with the volume difference.

I have a vintage Soul Preacher, and I’ve definitely found that it works best with a good 9v battery, as opposed to using an AC PS. It’s not my favorite EHX compressor (that would be the RI BlackFinger), but I do like the treble boost feature – quite handy.

I use both the Black and White Fingers.

The Black is more my taste, slightly saggy, dark, and woody sounding to me. I prefer it for general use.
The White is more glassy and smooth. I like to use it for smoothing out envelope filters and wahs, or for sustaining leads.

Try it with something that will boost your mids, like an EQ, or a wah cocked at a mid frequency, or a phaser frozen at a notch. The Worm works great with the Muff Fuzz.

Interesting mod idea, but it wouldn’t be very useful to me since my knob settings would be different between the chorus and delay – I would have to use my hands anyway.

that’s what I was thinking, but wouldn’t it thus be labeled carrier?

um… this EHX we are talking about. They called a knob ‘Hazarai’

What are you still doing up at this hour? :freak:

I’ve played those little Zvex amps before. They are really cool. Good lord do they have crunch!

Only problem is they are $500. And for that you could get a tiny terror or vox night train or ac15 and have a lot more versatility. The thing that makes there 22cal amazing is that its $100 and is the size of a bar of soap. Really if you made the 22cal any more than it is it would be less novel because it would be getting up into the price range of actual heads and combos. I love that its just a simple power amp. I think for tube sound you could run a english muffn into a 22cal and then into a marshall cab and there you go. Ready to rock.

    :thumb: Great post!

Those mini tube amps are really cool looking, I admit.
What if EHX made an affordable integrated stereo tube amplifier to use with turntables? Now that would be something I would pre-order.

Pushing an LPB-1 into a Hot Tubes isn’t going to do any damage. I run high gain into my Black Finger often.

But the Hot Tubes has plenty of tasty tube gain, so you probably won’t need the booster in front.

Just don’t put any pedals after the .22. That will definitely do some damage.

I use mine to power a 12″ speaker in my Cordovox rotating speaker cab (same as a Vibratone).

I’ve also used it to power an 8″ speaker in an old Squier 15 cab w/ the electronics gutted.

Both sounded great, for different purposes.

Yep, the 22 is awesome! Great crunchy tones when dimed!

I can get a bit more clean volume using a compressor, but not 50 watts worth.

Wow yours is in great condition, how long have you had it?
    I liked your setting it’s very 80’s.
    Have you tried the re-issue?
If so what do you think of it?

I’ve only had mine a couple of years now. I purchased it used.
I have the reissue Stereo PolyChorus also. It sounds amazing in stereo – very rich and spacious. When used in mono, I think it sounds a bit different from the original – less balanced somehow.

I prefer analog when possible, but ultimately I’m more concerned with writing a good song and performing it with feeling. I’m a believer that I can make any gear sound good as long as the song and performance are in place.

    Happy new Year!!!

I’ve only just got in from the NYE party (24 hours later!!!) had a bloody fantastic time, some things really do get better as you get older, nobody was sick, nobody got into a fight, just a very happy wonderful time was had by all (15 adults 10 kids) we danced to ABBA, drank (a little) too much, stayed up until 3.30 and had a huge cooked breakfast in the morning for everyone, went for a walk in the forest in the afternoon (kids had loads of fun getting muddy) then we all went back for tea and toast and cake…. fantastic, best NYE/NYD I’ve had for years. :)

    Shame it had to end.

That sounds awesome!!! Good vibes to begin the new year – may they continue through.
