I think you’ve pretty much said it all. Now get yourself a Super Replay.

I finally picked one up a few weeks ago for a reasonable price :D

    Very cool box.

I like to use it to sample quick hooks from the EHX Mini Synth, then trigger it through the CV input to the bass output of my DRM 32. :metal:

I just received my Freedom Amp :D

    Congratulations on that Super-Score!

I have 2 of the Mike Matthews’ Dirt Road Specials, and I’m guessing that the only difference between the Freedom Amp and the Dirt Roads is the built-in Small Stone and the D-cell battery option.

How are you liking it so far?

Do you have the Stereo PolyChorus? or the vintage PolyChorus?

Here is a pic of the Stereo PolyChorus:

    Holy Mackeral!

About 15 years ago I rescued a Small Stone and Electric Mistress from a neighbor’s carport. (He just gave’em to me. They were in his CARPORT. In Hawaii… ugh)

Anyhow, back then I didn’t know squat about guitar pedals, I just held onto them and used them for recording, etc. I assumed they’d been made in the late 80’s/early 90’s or something.

After checking this forum in a fit of curiosity I just looked under the hood and the Small Stone is a ’78, the Electric Mistress is a ’77.

    Thanks friendly neighbor dude. :thumb:

Great pedals, great years in EHX history, and all of history for that matter. Congrats on your lucky score.

Thx :) Unfortunately it doesn’t have any battery connectors inside. There isn’t even any information on the polarization on the PCB.

I have 4 of them

They’re also great for storing lots of different stuff – cables, power supplies, etc.

truthfully, i dont like most of the tones i get from it

    you don’t like the BMPTW?

i don’t think a compressor is going to help in any way whatsoever…

an EQ would be more useful in altering the sound, but you may be better off trying a different fuzz/distortion altogether.

what kind of amp are you using?

Agreed. Sell the BMPTW, and find a fuzz/dirt box that closer suits your taste.

Thanks for the response, much appreicated. On the Peter Stroud video demo (saw on youtube) he doesn’t seem to move the volume knobs when switching between Normal and Sqsh mode, and also both modes seem pretty quiet and hum/noise free.

Can you still hear a background hum on Normal mode when the pre gain is turned down to 0? My Black Finger hums even when it’s quiet, so it’s unusable especially for recording vocals or clean guitars.

No, that isn’t normal. Something is awry.

Which knob do you use the hotfoot with?

The RATE knob and the AMOUNT knob would both yield fun results.

I just got a new Black Finger and it is MUCH louder in Normal Mode than in SQSH mode. There is a very loud hum even when the pre gain is low. SQSH mode is very quiet compared to NORMAL. I’ve tried electric guitar and vocals and both are unusable in NORMAL mode for recording.

Has anyone else experienced this or did I get a DUD? I have 5 days to return this…

    Thanks.

Indeed, the Normal Mode is much louder than the SQSH mode on both my Black Finger units. That’s standard. I turn my PRE-gain up in Normal Mode, but I turn down my POST-gain to somewhere around 9:00. This keeps my bypass at unity volume.

Not sure about the hum problem. My units don’t have that issue.

Can’t you nstihy that as an admin EH Man?

Nope, none of us are superadmins. I’m not even sure who the superadmins are anymore.

I don’t see the older Qtron+ units come up on eBay as often as they used to. But I can’t imagine anyone paying more than the price of a new XO for an older model.

I really don’t get the outrage at all. It’s like a bunch of grannies in a retirement home complaining that their lunch buffet was changed. Totally embarrassing drama from a bunch of guys who spend way too much time on a computer.

Do we not have lives beyond these forums?

    ^^TRUTH^^

But, how hard would it be for them to put an exp pedal in on those?

Oh, and move the input to the right and output to the left, as god intended.

Good solution for exp pedal. It works great for me.

As for the input/output dilemma, the jacks are mounted into the board, so it wouldn’t be an easy mod, but not impossible. Personally, it’s never been a dilemma for me. Just use longer patch cables.
